The Link Between Iraq and Al-Qaeda
« on: September 30, 2003, 07:23:36 AM »
looks pretty solid to me.

http://www.insightmag.com/news/477622.html

while Saddam Hussein may not have had details of the Sept. 11 attacks in advance, he "gave assistance for whatever al-Qaeda came up with." That assistance, confirmed independently, came in a variety of ways, including financial support spun out through a complex web of financial institutions in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Italy and elsewhere. Long suspected of having terrorist ties to al-Qaeda, they now have been linked to Iraq as well.

Invade Lichtenstein!

Glancing through 'Insight' it doesn't seem to be a particularly relaible source to base an invasion on. Got anything to corroborate the claims made in the article - any more mainstream sources?

Didn't president Bush just publicly admit there was no evidence whatsoever of Iraq-Al-Qaeda cooperation?

Hillary Certainly believes it:

“In the four years since the inspectors left, intelligence reports show the Saddam Hussein has worked to rebuild his chemical and biological weapons stock, his missile delivery capability and his nuclear program. He has also given aid, comfort and sanctuary to terrorist, including al-Qaida members . It is clear, however, that if left unchecked. Saddam Hussein will continue to increase his capacity to wage biological and chemical warfare, and will keep trying to develop nuclear weapons.” -Sen. Hillary Clinton D-NY Oct 10, 2002

I think there is more substantial evidence of support from Saudi Arabia.

I agree there is more connection to Saudi citizens, but I am not sure about the Government itself being involved, Sandman.  That is the difference.

In his book,  _Sleeping With the Devil_, Robert Baer, an ex-CIA agent with years experience in the Middle East, makes a convincing case that the Saudi government has provided massive support to radical Islamic organizations (including Al-Qaeda) through "charities".  An interesting book.

The difference is that whatever connection there might be between the Saudi government and 9/11 is being withheld from us.
