Outlook Mail Filtering
« on: September 29, 2003, 10:43:56 PM »
I decided to switch over to Outlook 2000 for email, and I'm beginning to regret it.  I was using Outlook Express 6.  Am I missing something or is the Rules tool a lot more complete and usable in Outlook Express.  I had filters set up in Outlook Express which deleted suspected spam for me, and shuffled email from relatives who like to forward everything to a special folder, etc.  These imported into Outlook 2000, but it changed them.  For instance...

I had a rule that if an email came in with annoying@aunt.com in the From: field -OR- in the To: field, the message is marked as read and moved to the Spamming Aunt folder.

I'm trying to set up this same rule in Outlook 2k and I can't do this.  I can set it so it will move it to a folder if annoying@aunt.com is in the From: AND To: fields, but not OR.  I also cannot make it mark the message as read.

Any Outlook experts have any ideas?  I'm using the Rules wizard...is there a standard Rules tool that I'm missing?  If not, I think I'll be back to OE shortly.

Outlook 2k's rules aren't as complete because usually it runs with exchange which has server side rules.
