That's why the Founding Fathers formed the U.S.A. as a republic as opposed to a true democracy.
'democracy' was a 'dirty word' for no small period of time, due to certain ancient democracies 'voting' to...
-> Put all the generals of a certain democracy's military to death
-> Vote for the execution of the entire populace of a nation recently conquered by a certain democracy
-> 'Etc., etc., etc.'
...based on the 'track record' of democracies throughout the history of Nations, they went with the republic - so the people could be saved from themselves were they to vote for something stupid over an issue they really had no grasp of (can someone say 'modern national security and foreign relations issues'?
) with certain unalterable rights put in place to protect the people from the republic if (when) certain people attempted to 'save the people' when the people didn't need any saving.
