I have well... beginner lvl html experience.. I can plod along but am a bit lacking.  Anyone have some pointers to decent web sites or otherwise that would be informative?

Plagerize.

Find a website that you like and one which would be akin to what you would create, if you had the "know how."  Save the websites pages to your HDD and using your html software edit the originals to suit your purpose and "look".

Thats the lamest and uncreative way of doing things. Ontop of it just plane illegal.  Go to the book store and pick up a book called Eazy Guid to HTML I think that maybe the name of it.  

I have like a 1000 page book for Front Page 2000. Talk about reading a bore :D

better yet---HTML for dummys--it also includes a CD with several different types of  HTML writing programs, from drag and drop to basic and advanced scripting.........

 Pardonnez moi!!

 Allow me to rephrase that.....


 Juyst borrow a web page layout that you like but add a nice, personal note like, "Special thanks to for the inspiration!!" at the bottom of the homepage.  In font size 1 so it doesn't give them a big head or anything.

Illegal? I don't believe so. Web design isn't something that's been subject to copyright. Web content is, but if you want to make a site that has the same layout, look, and feel as another, I doubt that you'll hear any grief at all.

Perfect example is Amazon. You'll find many retail sites that look almost exactly the same. They differ in content only.

You can gain a lot by looking at the source code for other sites. Creativity can come later.

You're kidding right?  Web designs (the graphical art, the layout,  and the HTML) are very much subject to copyright laws, just like computer programs (which are considered compilations).

Do a Google search on "web design copyright infringement".

Certainly, you can't simply cut and paste the html or script information and it goes without saying that it's not okay to grab images from other sites.

What I mean by "design" is simply the layout and the way that data and or the GUI is presented. No one really owns a copyright on this sort of thing. For example, a company can't claim copyright for menus along the left edge using gray buttons that change color.

If you think you're stepping on someone's toes, ask.

Bought my domain name  and wanted to do something decent for a web site.   I'm not an idiot and would like to get my skill level up with html.  So, looking for educational stuff to become more proficient.
