Question on kills
« on: October 05, 2003, 09:56:08 AM »
I'd always thought kills were assigned based on overall damage done (thought I'd seen that a few places on the board).  However, earlier today I had a pass made on me by a 38 that did no damage, and a few minutes later a spit dropped on me and nailed me, but the kill was awarded to the 38.

Would someone mind clarifying whether it's damage or total shots landed that's the determining factor?

Even though damage was not listed on your damage list, he did do damage to your plane. The spit just finished you off. You can put a couple rounds on every part of a plane and see no damage, but each of those parts is weaker. Another plane can come along and put one round on a critical part and cause the plane to go down, but collectively you did more damage to the plane and would be awarded the kill. That's at least my understanding of the way it works.

it is awarded on who does the most damage to the enemy plane.
P38might have damaged u enough to be 1 bullet away from lost wing, and the spit hit u and u lost the wing with 1st ping and he pulled off, leaving 38 still with most damage.

or spit might have 1 pinged ur pilot, still giving 38 most damage.

look at it this way( dont know if its is or not)
say  a givin plane has a hit point total of 3000 points
(thats before the plane explodes)

each time a bullet hits it takes points from that total, depending on the calibur it was(30cal 50cal 20mm ect...).

now u say what about part damage. i dont think that are linked to the hit point total. they are a % possiblity of being damage with each bullet strike reguardless of hit point total remaining.
bigger the calibur bullet the more % chance it will damage a part.

example:

# 1   50cal  -100 per bullet hit   10% damage chance per hit

# 2    30mm   -1000 per hit      50% damage chance

with 50 cals time ive been hit and taken no damage part wise but died when plane blew up(hit total ran out).

30mm, if u hit them they either blow up or lose a part with each hit.
