head tracker button feature
« on: September 25, 2003, 09:30:28 PM »
Would this feature be possible in AH2? This feature would eliminate the use of number buttons on keyboards (newbs hate having to press numbers on keyboard or play around with the hat button during air to air DOGFIGHTS.) and save players $200 from buying Track IR?
They have this feature on Combat Flight Simularor 2 and Fighter Ace 3.0. I think this feature would also save total learning curve time by at least 1/5

you mean tracking an icon?   AH already has this...

i believe "tab" is default to highlight an icon... then press F11.  Insta-track.

I've got a Track IR and it's not that expensive really..I got the E Dimensional wireless glasses and the Track IR system for pretty cheap...Not sure if I could go back to it since I've not used it for awhile now.

IMHO that track view is a recipe for bad SA.  No point in maintaining a lock on a  bad guy then his buddy comes and blows yer prettythang sky high.  What noobs need is something to help em learn better SA not a gamey lock mode.

I never use padlock, but I think the TrackIR system would be a good addition to the game.

heck i find pressing numbers on keyboard easier now than pressing tab + F11. It took me awhile to learn the view system without actually knowing that AH had a tab + F11 feature.

Question for Cobra412
« Reply #7 on: September 26, 2003, 12:19:58 PM »
Cobra412 I have been thinking of getting a set of those glasses for myself.  I just wanted to know what you thought of them before I plunk my money down for them.  Do you like them or did you find them a waste of money?

How can I put this? Let's try it this way. I am just replying to the question skopro asked; nothing else. :)

If I am one of those you are addressing with your statment; I have a sidewinder forcefeedback 2 from microsoft and can use the hat and padlock middling well.  As I asked Cobra I am interested in what he thinks of his 3-d goggles.

After all they do cost quite a bit and I would like to know if Cobra thinks they were worth it.  The head tracker the store can keep.

I actually love the EDimensional Glasses.  Now for some games they don't work to well.  I've used them in flight sims and FPS's.  What I've found is the targeting reticles don't have any depth to them in some games which causes you to have to adjust your fire.

I've used them in CFS3 and well they were awesome but really hard to get used to.  It was simply amazing when diving in on your target but I was a newbie to flight sims and screwed it up often.  I haven't used them for quite sometime now.

I tried them a few times on AH but I had issues with the clipboard in the beginning quite often and the mouse would disappear.  Since you couldn't tab through the options it was impossible to get past the first page.  There was a few times I did get into AH and it was simply amazing but again I had issues with the targeting reticle and it made it a bit difficult.

I may reinstall it and see if I can't figure out why sometimes the reticles were fine and then sometimes they were completely off.  Since I only fly AH and sometimes MSFS 2004 I'll have to just test them on those two programs.  I may have just been screwing up my settings which caused the messed up reticles.

I have found that by flying straight/level and not looking around, it DRASTICALLY shortens the time required for me to get back into the tower, which is the point of the game.

From my experience with AH, IL-2 and WW2OL the glasses virtually halve your frame rate. So if you're marginal to start with you're gonna have problems.

Apart from that they seem to work best in WW2OL. But they are hard work on your eyes and if you wear glasses like I do it's a bit of a pain. So they're just gathering dust ATM.
