LCD Monitors
« on: October 15, 2003, 06:51:46 AM »
Anybody using these for AH have an opinion on how well they work for gaming?   My 17" Hitachi must be nearly 10 years old and I was thinking of going with one of the newer, fast-response LCD-type monitors.   Hitachi has one that claims 16 ms pixel response-- is that fast enough to eliminate the ghosting that typically is the big drawback to this kind of monitor?

I wonder the pixel response is for a standard monitor?   It doesn't seem to be a spec I see published for them.

Thanks all.

use a 19" Hansol h950 with 25ms res time....works great. Im thinking of putting it in my office and order a Samsung 193T for my new AH2 system tho. It costs abit more but has better colour rendering.

If you want really fast monitors go for 16ms once.... Check here for some clues:

i use a  NEC  LCD 1760V,  responce time 15ms, max refresh @ 1280 res is 75.

my 17" LCD gives me the same viewable i had with  19 " CRT.

the LCD works great in AH xcept in dark time, when contrast isnt as great.  otherwise it works better then my 19" crt did. i can see better, farther with the LCD.

if u get a LCD try to get the lowest responce time u can find.  the bigger u go above 17" the harder it will be to find RT below 20.
why big deal on RT(repsonce time)? this determines how much
motion blur u will get when fast turning like dog fighting or turret swinging.  even at RT 15 i get alittle blur when Zoomed in and turning.

right now for games like AH and Racing i love it, but  LCDs migh not still hold up for games like Quake and such FPS's.

Correction whels...

Your monitor has 16ms, not 15ms
No such thing as 15ms unless its 15ms fall time and 10ms rise, then its 25ms total.

I use a 15" LCD monitor as as long as I don't have sun shining on it, its crystal clear. you will noticed exceptional Clarity if you get a good one. They are expensive, but they are also sharp, and they take up considerably less space then other monitors. I love this Flatscreen.
