Miniature mobile field turrets - with "troop" graphic...
« on: May 21, 2001, 03:57:00 AM »
I don't think it's that far-fetched for the game, really. Sort of a cross between the panzers top-turret and the current "chute" vehicle... If you can't fly, you can spawn at the field as a troop (unless your barracks are destroyed).

The ultimate trick would be to allow the C47/M3 etc to carry upto 10 players (*in theory).

As to pilot recovery. Hmmm. In the main-arena that doesn't neccessarily make sense. But in an arena with a historic bent, it might well.

Addendum -- spawning as a troop is probably something that we would want to have a time limit on...

Agreed...now to end the barrage of M3's, require the paras to be actuall players.
Or at least 2 of them(actuall players) to lead their squad to the maproom. 4 AI paras follow 1 player para.
This sim seems to be developing to an all out war sim so lets take it to the ground with grunts as well. Give us player controlled paras   drop us at the edge of the field were we can either take cover or make a run immediately for the map room.

Yeah would be cool if there could be player controlled para vs para fights on field takes. A field could have a limited number of defensive para's that could be launched (if barracks destroyed, only a couple weak para's could spawn..)

That would be a huge leap towards an all-out WW2 simulation, but still within controlled limits and pretty easily added.

Ping - BINGO - that idea of making the player-controlled troops the squad leader works. Allow an M3 / Goonie to carry a max of 2 squads of 5 or 1 squad of 10. I think at first it'd be awesome fun just to be able to run around as ground troops.

It *would* give people more reason to consider doing ground-patrols. And the fact you have 4 or 9 buddies following you makes you a little more visible.

I think right now just doing it like taht would be sufficient to make it fun. Worry about all the nitty gritty like a gun-pointing or head-wobble or whatever animation later.

Well, there also could be another aspect to this whole thing that you have missed. If you stop the ack from shooting at the troops, then give the grunts some high explosive to plant then you could not only have the ability to capture fields with troops but to be able to kill objects with them as-well. This would be "trey cool"
