Resets and a suggestion/idea about them...
« on: May 21, 2001, 09:00:00 AM »
The only thing that routinely upsets me about AH is the resets.  I am not talking about "winning" a war or not having fields to take off from or getting ganged.  To me, that is all part of the game.

What bothers me is that the country that loses is is placed at a severe disadvantage if they stay in the same part of the map (i.e the Knights staying in the south portion of the map last night).  The fields where the reset occurred still had acks down when the map was reset and one of the other countries was able to send its other goon in to take it AFTER the reset.

In addition, we were trying to take a base to stay alive.  When the reset occurred, that base became ours.  Yet it was flattened and wrecked.  I don't mind when a base is damaged and unusable after it is captured (actually, I think it is a strong point of the game).  But why when a "reset" occurs, are the bases not reset in addition to the bases changing hands?

What I am trying to say is that I would prefer if the bases would be reset to complete 100% operational capability after a reset.  Anyone else agree with me?

I think thats one of the big advantages of rotating terrain per every reset like HT is talking about.

With a fresh terrain all fields would be clean, everyone starts even in the tower.

Actually Mathman....I was in the area in question last nite when the reset occurred trying to stop the Rooks from taking that Knit base.  When the reset happened, the acks came back up, but the Rooks killed them and recaptured....hell they only had about 6 M3s hanging around there after they captured it.

The thing that I didnt like about the reset last nite was we, the Bishops, got sent to the NorthWest corner.  I was flying around the P4 area when the reset happened in a Typhoon.  It was a long way home.....especially after I helped finish off the Knits HQ since I was in the neighborhood.

Ghosth summed it up pretty well.  This should be a non-issue when the rotating-at-reset terrain feature is implimented.

Hmmm... interesting idea... what would happen? Would all the flying aircraft find themselves back on the ground after a reset?

All planes will be returned to the tower with a "Landed successfully".  This is pretty necessary given that if you are flying NOE (Nap of the Earth) on one map.. that may be BSE (below surface of earth ) on the other one.
