A screeching noise is probably the powersteering pump dying. If it was a clicking or knocking noise I'd say it was the CV joints giving way.

If it is coming from one side,I'd still say the brake rotor isn't releasing.

I had the same problem,and that's what it turned out to be.When I did my brakes,I found this out,and ended up replacing the rotors-problem solved.

Does the sound seem to be coming from the engine,or from the sides?

thanks for the input. As you might have guessed, I'm not too familiar with cars. I'll get it checked tomorrow at a mechanic's, but it always help to sound like you know what you're talking about instead of just saying..."there's a noise in there" and then get ripped off

Check your brake caliper bolts. Could be a lose calipher bolt as it would not make any strange sounds forward but in reverse would screech.

If the sound is caused only when wheels are in rotation, the other suspect could be the CV joints just starting to go bad. Clicking sounds.

Note: When your steering wheel is turned near full lock your front wheels are not parallel, due to toe and ackerman. This causes a slight amount of scrub on the wheels sometimes causing a vibration etc... causing something to squeak in that general area.

I gotta go along with checking the brakes on this one. They self adjust when you back up and are more likely to indicate a problem then as opposed to normal forward movements.

Same thing happened recently to my Mitsi Eclipse, only made a noise when I backed out of the driveway and turned on the street. I went all the way and changed the rotors as well as the pads. No more problems.
