Dream recall is essential. There are techniques you can use to increase your memory of dreaming.
1) Atleast 8 hours of sleep is needed. You dream at different invervals throughout the night called REM periods (rapid eye movement). REM sleep happens more and more frequently as the night goes on (hour T+4, +5, +6, etc) and each cycle lasts about a half hour to an hour. For example, if you were to fall asleep at 10pm, you'll be having REM periods back to back around 5-6am. If you only catch 6-7 hours of sleep, your chances of remembering any dreams are halved.
2) Journal: Try keeping a journal of your dreams. Anything, even if it's just a tiny spec of info that you remember, write it down. This will help to find patterns and reoccuring themes/objects/people in your dreams.
3) If you awaken naturally (without an alarm or something external waking you up), try to remain calm and dont move a muscle. Sit there and remember what just happened; where you were, what you were doing, what was happening. THEN write it down 
Oh, and Turkey + B-vitamins help a lot
yes i know all that, my wife have future dreems, sometimes
scarry me if it works. She translate dreems to "real language", heh
she just wake up (9 hours of timezeone diference) and tould me about earthquake. I ask her, it will be earthquake in RL ( im in CA right now) or its dream for you only.
She sad thats mean "changes in life" ( i hope, or i go to buy water and power cells) ;-)
She has forecasted secound war in gulf, astudmuffinnistan war, som attacks in israel......... men its sometimes scarry.
She is able to predict somone death in family.
Im wonder is she able to predict if i start cheat her ;-)
