Which DX for win xp home?

That's the issue. I have looked on the MS site and they do not list xp with any version of DX8. Under win 98se I used v8.1. Which should I use under xp?

AMD 1.4 @1800+ not OC
512 RAM DDR
Nvidia GE Force mx2 400 128 meg
SB 16

XP is unique in the DirectX support area.  MS does not have a separate DX install available for XP.  You have to get it from the MS update site (from IE: Tools->Windows Update).
The download center does not have a DX version for XP either.

One of my pet peeves about XP.

dont they have the full verson (the one they shareware for the game / program manufacture's) for XP ?  
I know they have that for 98 .  (I forgot exactly what its called)

Skuzzy,

Which version should I go for? The download site currently lists 9 but I was using 8.1 with my system and vid card under 98. The frame rates and quality of the video were fine then. I am unsure about how 9 will affect my "older" nvidia.

I don't think you have a choice Maverick.  You pretty much have to take what MS will give you for XP.  Right now, that would be DX9.0b.

I've found W2k to be superior to XP in any imaginable way. All XP is eye candy and things done in an annoyingly different and often difficult way.

I'm pretty sure DX8 is included in XP.  Not positive though.

You CAN get DX9 as a separate installable file.  Look for the "distribution copy" from the DX9 site.

Did a file search, damn it's different in xp, and found that xp comes with dx8.1. I suppose it must be compatible then. I'll stay with that given my older vid card and (so far) stable graphics.

Go to Control Panel - Windows Update

It will highlight Dx9.0b as an update (along with many other options) - delete the ones you don't want and install DX9 and the rest.

That's how I got mine.

Since you already know your card supports dx9, you will probly get a small gain by installing it, set a restore point first in case you ever want to uninstall it.
