Looking at a video card
« on: October 27, 2003, 11:32:36 AM »
I used to know the ins and outs of the hardware, what was good and what wasn't, etc. But I've been away a while and have a question, Is a Geforce 4 mx440 64 meg card a good gaming card? I have one and might put it in my gaming machine. Thanks.

Its essentially a souped up Geforce2.  Not worth it.

see http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=99850 for current crop of vid cards.

The GF4 mx 440 still works for gamming its not as good as say an ti4600 or the 9500 -9800 ati cards ..

But it will play ah2 . and alot of other games . at least its alot better then a 32mb card .along with the fact its a ddr ram vs the older sdram cards.

Cash wise its the best value card out there right now  45.00 us

In the  next year+ though the new games will get more demanding then what the 64mb cards can support though ..

Stay away from the 42.xx 45.xx drivers though with the mx cards .
some guys say they work .. but for me they didnt work on 3 pcs.

Thanks guys, here's the deal, I'm running an ati radeon 7800 ( i think its a 7800) It's at least two years old. I just discovered our new server here has a mx440, which I would think would be a considerably better card than I'm running at home now. I'm thinking of swapping them out.

Im not really shure which card is better .. they are bolth 64mb cards .. the 7500 is more of a tv/dvd oriented card. along with still costing more then the Gf 4 mx 440 card.

i think it depends on the maker of the gf4 card and if its the 4x or 8x card,  i think theres 8 different manufactures of the gf4 cards.
