Firing Guns = mass FPS hit
« on: October 22, 2003, 11:46:52 AM »
firing any of the guns, planes or GVs, induce a
30 to 50 fps hit. ive tried with no sound wav
for the gun  but still get the mass fps hit. so its
not sound related.

example P51D, on runway, idle = 65 fps.
fire all 6 guns, hold fire down, fps will drop
down to 14 , until u stop firing.

was just about to post about that myself whels.

Try the Spit with .303's, my FPS went down to about 7!

rendering probs (minor):-

109 spinner disappears when you zoom out, goon textures mess up when flaps are lowered and has 2 sets of u/c.

I see this also Wheels.  Even if tracers are disabled my FPS goes down the drain.  I had not posted about it yet as I've not done the tests Pyro had requested.  But I wanted to add my ditto in here to your post.

Hi,

I had similar problems when I did use Mitsu's sound pack. Feels like something gets corrupted and fireing the guns cause huge fps reduce or even 1-2sec pauses. Yiks!

I fix the problem with AH & Mitsu's sound pack reinstaltion. Months later same problem again. Now I use original sounds without probs.

same here,  the longer you hold the trigger down, the further the fps drops to an approximate fps hit of 20-25, from 35 on runway down to 11 or so firing on rollout.

I noticed that too, I don't think 1.9900 had this problem to this extent.

Yeah, I get as low as 10fps when firing guns.  This will cause some problems in massive bomber formations, with all the guns firing at attacking 109's in TOD...it is the tracers that kill the framerate, not the guns (I think)

Something's up in the rendering when you fire guns.  It's not the sound.  Sit on the runway and fire all your guns into the air, watch the triangle count fly up.  Could be the tracers, I don't know what would cause that with tracers off.

Hey Mr Black someting wierd with your FPS tests, I reckon you did it wrong and should try again :)

Yours are the only ones that start with a high fps in test 1 then get slower and slower as tests progress.

It was known b4 the release. Is why we asked for test only in the tower.

It's not coruption. It's just I havn't had a chance to optimize the collision system, it's what i've been working on the last 2 days.
