WalMart and privacy
« on: October 24, 2003, 02:13:09 PM »
Went into WalMart t'day, picked up a few things, suddenly remembered I needed a money order. Went over to the customer service desk, told the lady the amount etc...she then asked to see my picture ID???

What the heck is this all about? Someone explain to me why on Earth what possible need WalMart has to see my picture ID to obtain a money order? She couldn't provide an explanation, nor could the store manager they suggested I direct any questions to the corporate office. What's next? Asking for photo id before you can check out?

LOL. Kesolei will tell you not to encourage me.  Seriously, I'm very careful about my privacy to begin with. This just left me floored.

damn, it sounds like you where shopping radio shack.

seriously I think I'd have passed on the purchase and bought one at 7-11,  OTOH I probably wouldn't have been in wal-mart.

Yeah it seems like everybody wants to know you're buisness these days.
When asked to see my ID over something that really should not require it I simply tell them NO and stand there looking them right in the eye.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it don't.

I would have said no too.  Why would she need to see an ID if you are buying a money order with cash?

I went to Applebee's with a group about a month ago.  There was a wait for a table so we sat at the bar and had a few beers.  No one asked for any ID.  (Everyone is either over 30 or close to it.)

We get a table and ask our server for another round.  She asked for TWO forms of identification from everyone.  We all lauged and changed our order to Cokes.  Prolly cost the restaurant $30 in bar sales.  Maybe they have learned since then.
