Looks horrible to me.  Hell the trees in that crappy 4 yr. old "Deer Hunter" game looked better.  I would have expected better.  Oh well guess AH2 isnt going to have the eye candy I thought it would, but what can you expect for a 2003 sim to be based on a Gf2 800mhz system.

Either you're being sarcastic or you have no comprehension of the differences in the games you mentioned.

Deer Hunter had, what, a 200 to 500 yard render range?  I wouldn't be surprised if it had less.

AH has a vastly larger render radius and must be able to display the same graphics to both the tanks that can't see far and the aircraft which can without causing the aircraft's frame rates to plummet to unplayable levels.

You cannot have HL2's close in graphic detail in a flight sim on today's computers.

Take a look at Il-2:FB's graphics from that position.  AH2's are far, far better and people generally rave about hpw great IL-2:FB's graphics are.

From the pic posted it looks like crap.  200 to 500 yds that pic doesnt look anything like that the trees maybe extend 200 ft in the background, not to mention they are way out of prapotion in regards to the size of the tank.  All I am saying is from what I have seen so far in the Beta, and this pic I am not at all impressed.  Thats my opinion and I will stand by it, no need to get all fanboish on me.

Funny thing is the XBOX actually has relatively the same specs as the AH2 base system, and even the crapiest game on a low res TV looks better graphically than anything I have seen in AH2

In that picture they don't extend all that far.  However they must be simple enough so that when they cover a view for miles from the air they don't kick the frame rates to hell.

You're not looking at the overall picture that the engine must accomplish.

Do you really think that the HL2 engine (or the Deer Hunter engine) could display a twenty mile radius (with about a two mile high detail radius) without dropping to multiple seconds per frame on an Athlon64 FX with a Radeon 9800 Pro? Frankly I bet they'd crash before they'd even do that much.

You're comparing apples to oranges.

Your Xbox would die if it tried to render AH2's environments at the resolutions used by PC monitors.

Everything looks pretty on consoles because they render at low resolutions, with low resolution textures.  The TV blurs things enough that it looks good.  Console games that look great on a TV look like **** if you port them directly to PC.

Looks great. All it has to do is provide enought cover for imersion and tactics. This will make the lighter tanks real tiger killers
