Title: Mission: The Legend Of Y29
Post by: soda72 on August 29, 2008, 09:05:53 AM
The Legend Of Y29
"The airfield at Asch Belgium (Y-29) was an advanced landing ground used as the Allies pushed across Europe following the landings of D-Day. The airfield opened on 20th Nov 1944 and was in use until June 1945.

On January 1st 1945 the Lufftwaffe launched Operation Bodenplatte, an all out attack on the Allied front line airfields. The FW190's and bf109's of JG-11 arrived at Asch just as the 487th FS of the 352nd FG were rolling down the runway; the ensuing battle came to be known as the Legend of Y-29. The pilots of the 487th Fighter Squadron took off under fire, and with the help of eight P-47s of the 366th (already in the air), the 487th shot down 23 German fighters out of 61 attackers. Several pilots made 'Ace' status that day; two had four confirmed kills apiece.  For their performance the 487th received the only Distinguished Unit Citation given to a fighter squadron in the European theater.
Mission: Ninth Air Force, protect air fields.

1.) p51d of 352d FG/487th FS flight I
2.) p51d of 352d FG/487th FS flight II
3.) p47d-11 366th FG/390th FS flight I
4.) p47d-25 366th FG/391st FS flight I

Mission: "Unternehmen Bodenplatte" - JG 11
1.) 190a8 of 2./JG 11 Schwarm I
2.) 190a8 of 2./JG 11 Schwarm II
3.) 190a8 of 3./JG 11 Schwarm I
4.) 109g-14 of 6./JG 11 Schwarm I

Great mission!!! I loved flying that mission.  :salute

The only problem that I found was that the p47 D25 and D11 took off with the p51s and got the go ahead to take off with the other p47s but you are not on the runway.

Besides that It was an awesome mission! It brightend up my dull day <S>

yeah I listed that as a bug to Sudz in the mission editor forum.   Spawn points do not work correctly if multiple flights are defined.  It always places the user in the spawn point of the first flight listed...

Fun mission Soda and great choice for a historical one.  I have one question tho.  What is the mission .res file for in this mission?  I didn't see any extra goodies (what the .res is for). but I only flew the German side.  I suppose I could open it in the M.E. and answer my own question.  Fun mission bro, keep 'em comin'!

I put in some audio for the allies side to show Lt. Colonel John Meyer requesting permission to take off.

The .res didn't work for me.  I tried every flight.  Happens to me every time I try to send one out with one of my missions too.  Could someone else who's flown this one chime in and say if you could hear the added audio or not?  I'd like to know if it's just mine, or if the .res system is just plain screwed.

That's weird, I have a second PC that I use for a 'clean machine' to test the install.  The audio worked ok with only the .res file.  Do you have Aces high installed on the C: drive?

Roger.  I have yet to see or make a working .res file.  Hopefully it's just me.

Great stuff soda, once again!

I've added this mission package to the list of offline missions (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Offline_Missions) on AHWiki and created a The Legend Of Y29 (Offline Mission) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/The_Legend_Of_Y29_(Offline_Mission)) page.

that will work if there are no .wavs in the mission, and i dont think there is any in this one,but if the mission has .wavs in it you will run
into problems when you go to play the mission, the file path of the .wavs will need to be corrected. :salute

not sure about that, try putting them in your skins folder, but they may have to be built into the mission, usranger would know more about that.

i meant just installing skins for offline practice.i havent really played since i was 11 or 12 years old so ive got to re-learn everything. and skins are new to me.

in that case then, unless you have a payin account or had a payin account with the skins already downloaded i dont think you will be able to use them, just the default one, unless you make your own.you can download them and put them in the file but i dont think they will show up offline.

To use custom skins, they must be built into the terrain at the time it is created.  You can use different skins during regular offline flying, but for them to show up in the mission, they must be included by the terrain maker, replacing the default skin for the custom one.

whenever i put the skin file in the skins folder nothing shows up in offline mode. i did all the directions from this one site "aces high skins department"
and nothing happend when i looked for the skins. :headscratch: i made a new folder in the skins folder with the number on it(p51d_1)and put the skin in it. i looked, no skin. i replaced the default skin, still nothing.so....

You need to put all 3 of those files(P51d.bmp, P51d.txt, & Material.txt) in your P51d_1 folder.  You will now be able to fly it in regular offline mode, but to be seen in an offline mission, it would need to be built into the terrain when the terrain was created.  It would become the new default for that terrain.

thanks man i got my skin! :rock now i know how to install skins.

now if i want my skin in the mission i have to have a terrain editor to make that a default skin for the map, right. 'cause if i do need it my terrain editor dosent work.

Soda,

Add my name to the list of hat tippers, very nice work.

Three quick comments:

1. When I downloaded and installed the mission I noticed that the arden08s.fla file was 0 kb. I suspect something might be wrong there.
2. I, like other reply posters, didn't have the added audio during flight.
3. I also had to do the offline mission editor, open the mission, and click "build res library" in the files section

Nothing.

AcesHigh has bugs.

Wait for HTC to fix it.

No one should be playing offline missions on v.2.16 PERIOD.

I was doing some research last night on the 352nd FG and the website I was looking at showed the episode of Dogfights about the Legend of Y29. So after watching I remembered I had this mission and just had to play it. Now that it works great since the bugs are worked out of AH2, it is a blast!  :aok  I didn't have as much success as the actual airmen that were there, but I'll keep trying. I am just not that familiar with the P-47D yet, but I will be. Thanks for a sweet historical Soda  :salute

HellFire- if you already have the mission downloaded and installed to your AH then you can make it compatible by opening .mis file in AH Mission Editor, then do a build .res and save. This should make the mission playable with the latest AH. That is what I did and it worked fine. Try this first and see if it works, I don't know the rules for reposting someone else's work and don't want to create any issues. Yet I will be more than happy to help you get it working with what knowledge I have learned.

I know for sure the ahiiterr is correct and the missres. you said to paste in the offmiss. but i don't have that. the ones that are close are missions and misstemp. If you are just downloading a mission for play, the mission .res goes in your MISSRES folder.  If it comes with a terrain you don't already have, the terrain .res goes in your AHIITERR folder.  Do not worry about any other folders.  Offline missions worked differently in prior versions with different install directions.  So, as a player, you only have to deal with the MISSRES folder & sometimes the AHIITERR folder if installing a terrain for the mission.  Are you guys POSITIVE you have the Y29.res in the MISSRES folder?

EDIT: Install directions from a previous page:

Install instructions:
copy arden08s.res, arden08s.fla, arden08s.fld, and arden08s.pln to the ahiiterr directory

copy y29a.res to the missres directory...

The .fla .fld & .pln files that Soda included are files that the terrain uses to set up who owns which field & which planes are enabled.  They go in your AHIITERR folder along with the terrain .res.
