Malta? I hope not.

Seems like a great idea, but I have yet to see a Malta event that played well.

Actually, the Malta frame in Southern Conquest was a blast.

I flew Ju 88's, and it was a very fun time.

The Malta scenarios:
-- Fire Over Malta (reasonably fun)
-- Med. Maelstrom (was grim for the Ju 88's)
-- Southern Conquest, Frame 1 (great fun)

But the next scenario is unlikely to be Malta.

My experience with Malta Scenarios have been more aligned with Devil's, awful at best. That is not to say that there cannot be a good one, just not one yet that I have enjoyed.

I understand Med. Maelstrom, but did you guys fly in Southern Conquest?

That was the series of snapshots right?

That was the series of snapshots right?

It spanned the Southern front with frames of Malta, Torch (North Africa), Husky (Sicily), and 15th AF in Italy.

Yeah, I did not play in that one. A scenario should be more than a series of snapshots.

What made the Malta frame so great?

Yeah, I did not play in that one. A scenario should be more than a series of snapshots.

Some people like progressive scenarios (that span a longer time than one battle, sometimes such that each frame is a different battle in a series), and some folks do not.

Because some people did ask for them,we have run them, but only rarely:  Southern Conquest (2016), The Pacific War (2014), and BOG (2011).

What made the Malta frame so great?

It had a lot of combat action for both sides, neither side seemed to dominate the other, and bomber surviability was around 50-60% (challenging, but not a total wipe out every time).  For Ju 88's (I was GL), a typical mission involved fighting to and from target, and, when we did make it back to base, it was usually with missing drones and being all shot up.  Also, we got to do bombing of land targets at alt, and antishipping on the deck -- very fun variety of targets and attack styles.

The whole Southern Conquest scenario was like that except for the Torch frame.  There, the allies shut us Ju 88's down, so it was a frustrating frame, but hats off to them.  For the rest of it, though, it was a blast, and one of my favorite for bomber action of any scenario.

Another awesome mission from Southern Conquest.  Dantoo was loving this part of it, too, as you can hear.

BoG was totally different than the others. In BoG, the player squadrons represented the same historical unit throughout the course of the event. You got to see the the evolution of these unite as they up[graded their equipment over the course of the war, and you watched your opponents upgrade as well. That was an awesome element of BoG and I'd love to see it again.

In the others, each frame was an entirely different, unrelated battle. There is no historical connective tissue tying the units together from frame to frame. Hence, a series of snapshots.

Some folks wanted exactly that:  a series of battles, each one a different battle, spanning the war.  That's why we ran it.  Some folks don't like it.  It's OK if you don't like it.  I'm not pushing for you to like it.  I'm answering the questions you asked.

Me, I tend to prefer one battle, not the series of battles.  To me, it is more immersive.

However, as I've said, Southern Conquest was still one of the funnest scenarios for bombing I've ever flown in -- and I've flown in a lot.

We need to decide on when the next scenario should be.

Things are not far enough along to have a scenario in February.

Sometime in April might be a good choice.
