Just getting to know her. So far was only able to do a 4" diameter circle at 15 yards. And she could use a longer trigger and a little bit lighter.

I absolutely love 1911s and that is a very pretty one.
I recently put new grips on my old Springfield Armory stainless steel. I got the Pachmayr grips that mix wood with rubber to replace my old all rubber ones, which looks prettier yet functions just as well.
I carried WWII manufactured 1911s on guard duty on my submarines. Remington Rand made them in 1943 and 1944. When the grip safety malfunctioned on one after countless years of service, they didn't bother to fix it. The broke out another brand new, never issued 1943 that was sealed in a bag with cosmoline to replace it. That was a beautiful weapon. About a year later, we converted to 9mm Berettas. They took all four of our 1911s, including the brand new one, to be cut up and sold as scrap metal. It broke my heart.

Now searching for s&w model 66 and a 49.

I've never been able to figure that out. We had the world's best military handgun, and gave it up for a girl's gun.

Very nice! All 1911s are beautiful (even that Springfield) but I can't believe you didn't go with STI, made right there in Texas. Action smooth as a hot knife through butter.

Ahh $600 vs 2k?

HiTech in the future look at an S&W M&P .45 Shield. I have a Remington 1911 carry and the S&W is less bulky, lighter and shoots very very well. They have two versions, with safety and without for concealed carry. I have the version without the safety and I absolutely love it. I like it better then the Remington 1911 carry I have. Good luck with you new firearm it's a beauty!

Ha! It’s so worth it though. My advice would be don’t even try one, it will start getting expensive real quick:) Had to sell my Springfield after I got the STI because I just didn’t want to shoot the Springfield any more. Also got a steal on a Wilson Combat 1911 that I couldn’t pass up. Definitely don’t touch one of those unless your ready to sell that Springfield.

I've put about 1k through the m&p 2.0 both full sized and compact.
The 1911 I bought is not for Carry just for fun.

I carry the 92FS, which must be what you're referring to. I have not very many women with hands big enough to handle the Beretta well. My favorite is the Singer 1911, but for obvious reasons I would never shoot one.
I hate Glocks. I have Colts, Springfields, Kahrs, a UMC, and a Singer. I think today Colt and Springfields are probably the same gun, but it wasn't always like that. Singer is top-of-the-line machinery.

HiTech I have one I got from Amazon IIRC, it is an ISONIC brand cleaner. Was about the largest tub I could find for a reasonable price. I am not interested in using it on rifles but it will hold a 1911 or my new S&W 625 (45 ACP). I strip the weapons down then use the cleaner. I use hot water and the purple Simple Green HD cleaner for solution. The cleaner also has a heater to keep the water hot as well as a timer.

9mm is good enough to get the job done anywhere except maybe the jungle. I had mine modified with the short trigger mod, main spring, and single-side safety (all from Wilson Combat parts) and Crimson Trace Laser grips, which makes the grips even bigger. The action is smooth as butter. The only time I have ever seen it misfire is when it was limp-wristed by someone trying to be precise with the trigger. It's no more a one-hander than a 1911 would be.

My wife and daughters carry SW 9s. Just the right size for them. Easy to conceal for anyone. I still carry me XDM 45.

Having fired the Beretta 9mm, a Glock 0.40 S&W and the 0.45 ACP 1911 quite a bit, I can say that 9mm has a lot of advantages over the 0.45. Shooting the 9mm is like shooting a 0.22 rifle, you can pull the trigger very fast and punch a nice hole in the head at 15+ yards. Whereas the 0.45, with no form or porting/muzzle brake, requires a lot of recovery time between trigger pulls to be accurate. While standing duty, we carried three magazines: 3 x 7 0.45 or 3 x 15 9mm. That's a big difference in number shots and sailors don't train very much, so the 9mm was a much more practical choice. The key with the 0.45, is that if you are used to the recoil and can aim well, you only need one hit per target pretty much no matter where you hit if you have any of the good hollow points. I use Federal Hydrashock out of habit, though I am sure newer, better rounds have been developed since I started carrying in 1997.
0.40 S&W seems like the magic happy spot. Almost as easy to shoot as the 9mm and with a decent velocity for accuracy and penetration, but almost as heavy a hitter as the 0.45. Maybe I should get a 1911 chambered in 0.40 S&W? I am an old dog and have loved 0.45 1911s since I was very young. It's not like I have ever gotten in a shooting situation, but if I ever do, I am pretty sure the 0.45 ACP will be adequate for me in most situations. For hobby purposes, I see no reason to give up the 0.45 other than to go to a cheaper caliber like 0.22.

Make sure the purse straps are securely attached to the purse! Otherwise, it sounds highly effective. Chris Lee might have used it if he'd known.

That's a nifty choice HT!
Streakeagle, if you like the beretta but want a little more punch, I really like my beretta 96FS. .40cal, same dimensions as the 92FS. Still shoots super easy and accurate, and if you have training in the 92FS you don't have to re-learn or un-learn any habits or reflexes. Still not a concealed carry gun unless carrying around huge hunks of metal is your thing, but it's a nice walking around field gun, great for personal defense (DA first shot helps prevent shooting off your toes!) and if you run out of ammo it makes a nice bludgeon. Also, .40 ammo isn't terribly expensive and there are plenty of options. Just don't be dumb like me and buy a bunch of aluminum case stuff, or you'll be praying every single shot that it doesn't split and stick in the chamber.

I was reading about a fella in Las Vegas. He and his girl had 2 masked gunmen approach across a parking lot. One of the gunmen fired 2 rounds at his girl and missed. He pulled his gun as the gunmen fired 6 rounds at him... all missing. The boyfriend fired 10 rounds. Every round struck the gunman that was shooting, killing him. Oh and the second gunman never fired, he ran as fast as he could away from the shooting. Seems he had a gun but was not up for a gun fight.
Rare that anyone hits with half their shots in such a situation.... this was an amazing feat.

I like the Beretta a lot and have a fair amount of shooting experience with it, but I like the 1911 more. My 1911 is a stainless steel full size standard one with some combat carry upgrades. It is large. It is heavy. But I do carry it. If I had money to blow on guns, I would prefer a standard 92FS identical to my military issue weapon. I would like a 0.40 pistol, but I am not sure what model. Maybe a basic Glock for carry? I would also like an AR-10 set up for long range accuracy yet styled with handguards and carry handle to look more like a regular military issue AR-10/AR-15/M-16. I would really like an M1903A3 bolt-action rifle just like the ones we drilled with in Army JROTC in high school: accurate, built to last, and easy to maintain.

I'll never buy another Glock. The trigger springs break (no more shooty), the action stop pin breaks (no more stoppy), and the action break-down spring breaks (gun falls apart when you shoot it). These are not uncommon problems with Glocks, either. No thanks.

Really? Because that's the first I have heard of that kind of thing. I have more than a little Glock experience including having competed with one and having multiple pistols in 9 and 40. I had never heard of a failure like those in the history my old Dept had with them since the Glock was the one most of us chose back in the old Mk1 days of the weapon and there were hundreds of thousands of rounds fired by Officers in training and qualification. I also went to some post department training where the beginners class was about a 250 to 350 round count per student. There were multiple failures with 1911's but none of the glocks choked.
Having said that, ANY mechanical device can and does break. Nuthin is perfect.

I have a Springfield Milspec. It has 1-2 features above the base model but not much more. Great pistol. Springfield Armory stepped on its D*ck a few years back in Illinois (where it's based) when it's lobbyist signed off on one of the state's many gun control initiatives to try and get a carve out. However, the company backtracked pretty quickly (under a lot of pressure). I can forgive Ruger for Bill's transgressions and can do the same for Springfield as long as they stay straight and fly right moving forward. I use an XD45 for my nightstand gun.

My range facility put 1 million pistol rounds downrange every quarter for years, I've seen everything break. Everything WILL eventually break. Glocks have a stated factory service life of 20 to 30k in 9mm, and 20k (or less) in some models. Their .40 cal pistols WILL fail more frequently due to the nature of having higher pressures in a handgun designed for 9mm.
In my experience (100 Glock+ handguns alone returned to factory for repair or catastrophic failure replacement), the main reason GLocks fail after 20k rounds (and before that), is people not changing out the recoil spring assembly. When that wears out, the handgun will quickly start beating/eating itself, resulting in slide/rail separations, fractures, and all kinds of other failures. So you're right, maintanence is a major failing point, and not really the handguns fault. Still, I've seen brand new handguns of every caliber and description break/fail in their first 1000rnds. It's random, and not very likely, but it happens.

The biggest problem with the Glocks in .40 S&W is that their chamber does not fully support the case, and the barrels design is not friendly to lead and copper wash bullets, You have to use copper jacketed rounds in a Glock. Scratch +P hot loads like Cor-bon and Buffalo bore to. Handloads void your warranty.
Typically Unsupported Chamber with a Polygonal rifled barrel firing Lead Bullet Followed by +P Loads causes a glock to go KABOOM!
http://f-r-i.com/glock/FAQ/FAQ-kb.htm
They also lack a hammer which brings up a new problem that left me with a scar under my right eye. I had a factory cartridge with a bad primer fail to fire. I waited the obligatory 10 count, ejected the round and BOOOM! the cartridge went off hitting me in the face with brass fragments .... If I wasn't wearing eye protection I would be blind in my right eye.
I returned my issue weapon and purchased a Smith and Wesson 411 .40 and a Sig p229 .40, I fell in love the p229 and made it my primary duty/carry weapon.
I have loved Sigs ever since. Now I have a p220st .45 a p220 .40 and a p239 .40. I carry them all (Usually not at the same time).
Unfortunately Sig has been moving away from their p2XX designs for the last decade and I hear they are closing their European factories due to financial and legislative problems.

Generally speaking pretty much all handguns warranty is voided by handloads, according to the lawyerese fine print in the documentation. Other than a catastrophic failure I haven't heard of them trying to enforce that.

Been looking at a neat design. As I get older I am finding fixed sights on a handgun are not as good anymore. I had been toying with the idea of a red dot optic. In a couple of my firearm related periodicals I have read about a newer US manufacturer called SCCY. I have no idea if it is supposed to be a word or not. They have come out with DA only pistols in the 380 and 9mm calibers. The interesting part is the reviews for them have been very very good considering the modest cost, under $275 for fixed sight and under $335 for red dot with a crimson trace optical sight on it. They even come in various colors. I thought that being a patriotic American folks should celebrate their 1776 treason day by buying a firearm, particularly the CPX 1 or 2.
-

It takes
regular or 3" .410 bore shotshell or .45LC. I prefer 000 Buckshot (5 pellets per shell).
And yes, it kicks a lot but I wanted the smallest pistol that dispenses the most lead possible.
