Occasionally, red icons will disappear and reappear seemingly randomly.
I'm talking well within 6k, and not bomber drones that block the icon. And at high enough altitude.
It makes the game unplayable.

What plane are you in? If you're in a bomber, what gun positions, etc.

Latest case, I was in a Ki-43, and the disappearing icons were Spit 9s, P-38s, and F-4Us.
It was over a horded field, so a lot of traffic. But, it doesn't happen every time. It seems to be persistent during a given session.

I have noticed this before. The other day i was following some bombers and was 3.5k away and the icon kept flicking on and off. What i think i noticed was there are some spots in the glass right near the posts that block the view of the icon even though the plane is still visible. Might be a graphics card thing, might be a skins issue, Might be a modeling thing. Not sure. This is just what i noticed.
-
Had the same thing happen to me yesterday in LW, flying an LA5, kept loosing the red Icons, video card is an AMD Radeon HD6670.
-
I does it when attacking LANCS B17 and B26 in 109s and 190s. Usually in the side glass

Happens to me regularly in 109s and 190s, I just thought I was parallel to them or something, didn't consider it might be a bug. I'll have to watch from other planes and see if it's only just 109/190s for me.

Well, first I have to admit I almost exclusively fly the 109 and 190s, and I have been noticing this bug as well! I thought maybe I somehow turned icons off when chasing someone the other day, but then I remembered that requires me pressing two very well spaced buttons on my keyboard, and the icon reappeared shortly after. I was chasing a F4U at the time I last recall this bug

That's where i have noticed it the most, when flying the 109s and 190s. Mostly near the support structure for the side window.

Please provide screen shots of any and all disappearing icons. So far, none of this is helpful to me.

I think I have it recording inflight, give me a day or so. :salute

I'll try to catch a shot or two. No guarantees.
It happens on and off. Not a regular blinking pattern, but suddenly on, suddenly off.
Also, it seems to happen only in the Ki-43 for me.

There are three B-17s in this image taken from the Forward Up view in an A-20.
I've had the same view problem in an A20 with an Intel P3+Gforce2 and Intel P4+Radeon 9800 and an Intel i7 2600k+AMD Radeon 6850 HD
The other views are fine, but in this combination, it affects every plane icon you should be seeing on your screen.
The image is cropped to make sure it's less then the upload max.
You don't even need to launch the A20 off the runway. Set all six drones as a large bomber (so you can see where the icons should be) and hit the forward up view to watch the icons disappear.
-
I can't recreate this on my end, but I'll ask Skuzzy about it tomorrow when he gets back from vacation.
-
I wonder if it is card dependant.. Mine us ATi.

Here is another example of icons disappearing. Links are for film viewer file of sortie, and screen shot taken from my Fraps video. Screen shots 1 to 1c in sequence as is 2 and 2b, 3 is a little further on but different angle.

Windows XP 256MB ram (vid card) x1300pro ping is in 300's
Everything is fine with the game except the disappearing icons...the plane icons are starting to disappear with more frequency in the D200 to 600 range up close where it was usually between 1.5 to 3 at distance...they rarely disappear when multiple cons are around (like 15 but just might not notice them going out) but if its singles or doubles it will go off and stay off for up to 10 seconds...gv icons go out at D800 and really don't come back up...last night I was circling a panzer with its icon just fine and a m3 upped and drove right by the stationary panzer and its icon never showed up

If that is a formation, the lead bomber is just out of view enough to cause the ICON to disappear. I did the offline test and the ICON's all disappear when they are supposed to and reappear when they are supposed to.
Okay, I think everyone knows, but I am not going to assume anything. ICON's do disappear when the plane crosses the frame rails of a cockpit. Anytime the plane is blocked from physical view (I think it is the center point being blocked), the ICON's will disappear.
I cannot view anything at mediafire due to the risk of virus/malware/spyware infection from that site.
You can upload the images in our "Films and Screenshots" forum and link them from from here.

PotNpans Screen3.png shows it best, unobstructed but still missing the icon

Since returning to the game last week, I too have experienced this bug a few times in various aircraft. The icon suddenly disappears then reappears intermittently. It is definitely happening inside normal icon range with no obvious reason for it to disappear. The first time I saw it, I thought some bombers had bailed - the 3.5K icon was there one second, then gone, then reappeared. The second and third time I started thinking maybe it was just a glitch related to arena lag (which has been bad for me lately). Now that I am aware others are experiencing it, I will relate specifics if/when I see it again. (Not at my home comp now, so can't provide hardware details ATM.)
Anecdotally, it seems to me like it occurred when transitioning into a front-quarter (forward left or forward right) view, but that could be a red herring. It has occurred several times, so I will be looking for it now and will relate more specific and useful data and/or film.

I have noticed this a few times also. It happens when I am level and at the 3 or 9 of the bombers. Only last's a few seconds and then the icons are back.

...
Sorry, I missed this somehow.
No, I was following the planes with Icons clearly visible and well within range. In the screenshot, I dipped the nose to use the forward + up view and show the icons disappear. That screen shot was harder to accomplish then you can imagine. I don't have enough fingers lol.
Just now, I loaded ndisles offline, launched an A-20 at A1 pointing NE.
Engine off.
The icons are all within 3k and icon range is 6k
All views, i.e. Side+Forward+Up work normally except Forward+Up. Then the icons disappear.
The interesting thing is that in the film viewer, the icons show but instead, the cockpit frame disappears. I can email the film if it would be helpful.

my icons show up very light color
(http://i755.photobucket.com/albums/xx199/homersipes/Capture_zps62c0c381.png)
it has been this way for a bit, can be tough sometimes. sometimes it is red and if I use my hatswitch it will change, and if I do ctl/D for showing damage it will be green until I look to the side or behind me

Say homersipes,
Have you seen the Custom Arena Error bug thread?
Haven't you been creating Custom Arenas lately?
How have you managed that?
If you can, respond in that ^ thread please.

My bad. I thought the name on those rooms created were the same as your bbs id.

ah gotcha, no worries
-
on my office computer my icons were a light colors till I mess with the video options....
Skuzzy I am working on sending a film from yesterday... I chased a group of bombers and he was 1.5 to 2.0 from me and the icon just kept disappearing...they weren't near the cross bars either
-
Take a 109 up, follow bombers around, it happens almost every time. The reason it is frustrating is it happens in between 2.0K and closer on my FE, and often when I'm ascending above & get on top, but trying to stay out of their guns range.

I have had this problem since I bought this Acer laptop I'm playing on, and that is a couple of years now. But I have to admit that the last few nights I have played the icons color flickering has been alot more annoying than usual. Infact so much that I even commented it in pure frustration on ch200..
I have been told by my squaddies that the problem I got is due to my videocard, and my problems show as random flickering icon colors (both green and red) and also the frps info txt ontop of the game screen is flickering green/grey when this is going on. And as if this is not enough, the dots on the map are so unbelievably tiny I almost need a magnifying glass to see where the dots are. Same when someone uses a mic, the box showing who is using the mic on the map is at 4 pixels or thereabout..
On my old Asus laptop I could easily see dots on the map, and there was a solid square over the dot when someone was on their mic.
My current Acer has:
intel HD Graphics 3000 videocard
6 GB DDR3 Memory
intel core i5-2450M
W7

The HD3000 Intel video was meant for notebooks, not laptops. It is a much older generation that the current 4600 series available. Check Intel, or Acer for updated video drivers.

Take the M16 and follow an air con while zoomed in. There should be plenty of room in the view for the icon, but none is present. It happens enough that it should be easily replicated with the M16, but I don't believe that it is 100 percent fool proof. It could be affected by sunlight, so I will try and record or notice where the sun appears in reference to the missing icon.

sounds exactly like what my issue is, but I have figured out that when looking straight forward the icons are red, but when I follow a plane and use my hatswitch as soon as I look in any direction goes grey or whatever color that is. if I do the damage display or the FPS showing it does the same thing, green then goes to grey.

You do realize that the Intel video chip only has 32MB of dedicated video RAM? That does not come close to the minimum requirement for the game.
On top of that, it has allocated 1.5GB of system RAM for use. This brings your useable system RAM to around 2.5GB. Aces High can chew through 2GB of system RAM pretty quickly. So the game and the operating system and the video card are all fighting for the system RAM.
Take a look at your swap space utilization. Almost 2GB being used.
That is a very resource short computer. You need to minimize every aspect of the games graphic requirements in order to have any hopes of not experiencing graphic stability issues. Even then, I do not see that computer ever having enough resources available.
-
:headscratch: :headscratch: confused lol I am computer stupid when it comes to that stuff. I mean I play AH with graphics at about half and I get 59-60 fps solid while playing, my old pc would drop frame rates as soon as there were more than about 10 players within icon distance and my icons were normal on that OLD laptop.
-
Newer is not necessarily better.
For instance, the power management in the hardware is much more aggressive than it was in older hardware. Makes it more problematic for real time graphics.
I am sorry, but that system was designed to run Microsoft Office, and that is about it. It will be problematic.
-
So in an A20, I see no icon when looking through the top of the canopy even when plane is not close to a support. I have an older but ok system with a 7900GS card. Is it just the way it is or is their any value to filming and sending in what I'm seeing? I'm used to it and its a small matter, but if its a bug I'm down with helping with info.
-
You mean, like this (see attachment)?
The problem we have, is we cannot duplicate this, except in planes where there is a problem with the model itself. We fixed those and those fixes will be in the next update.
If your video card falls below, or is very near, the minimum specs for the game, then you can expect inconsistent behavior. For instance, a 256MB video card can be easily overwhelmed if you turn up hardly any of the graphic options.
Simple test. Disable every graphic option (uncheck all the Options->Graphic Detail->Advanced options, and check everything with the word "Disable" in the description in Options->Graphic Detail) in the game, and set the "Maximum Texture Size" to 256 and see what happens.
-
I'll play with it a bit and check it out after the patch. I believe the 7900 is a 256 card but I only see the issue in the A20 (which I don't fly that often) so my guess is that its not the card getting overwhelmed or it would show up elsewhere.
Thanks
-
I cannot duplicate this problem on an ATI4850 nor an NVidia 9800GTX.
You saw the screenshot. That was the ATI card.
-
I get this quite often.
It only ever happens attacking bombers. It usually happens after the first guns pass when I'm looking at the bomber through the side window as I extend. I mainly fly spit 9 or Tempest.
Graphics card is a GTX780 with 2Gb.
I'll try to get film / screenshot next time I'm up.

The HD3000 Intel video was meant for notebooks, not laptops. It is a much older generation that the current 4600 series available. Check Intel, or Acer for updated video drivers.
I tried searching for upgrades on my graphics driver to a newer generation, but when trying to install I just got a message that it was not compatible with my laptop. I am not a computer geek at all, and my knowledge stretches just barely enough to be able to insert custom soundpacks into the game folders. :lol
But I did run a scan on my drivers and it told that my graphics driver was outdated, so I just need to find the right upgrade and see if that helps..
Or I need to get myself a better computer, that would probably be the best choice if money was not the issue.. :noid
