Title: My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean...
Post by: oboe on October 06, 2004, 08:36:27 AM
This is Major William Dunham's P-47D, CO of the 460th FS, 348th FG, circa December 1944.   Operating against the Japanese out of the Phillippines; I think Major Bill is going to have his hands full with the new Ki.84!

Special thanks to nopoop and waffle for their examples and guidance in doing bare metal skins.   Hope you guys think it turned out OK.   I haven't submitted to HTC yet - still agonizing over weathering details.   I reached a point where I needed to step away and show you guys what I had and ask for comments and advice.   Thx!

VERY VERY NICE !!! I really like that highlight that runs on the lower fuse starting at the cowl.

Just look out of the cockpit when you work the weathering. Let it be your guide.

Great stuff Oboe, great stuff.

Thanks for the good words guys.   I loved this one a lot and after a few final touches (darkened shadows, added some weathering and dirt smudges here and there) I had to give this bird the boot out of the nest.

It's available now at the AH Custom Skins site, and am submitting it today to HTC.

Awesome job oboe, I don't think the bare metal can look any better than that!

This was an old skin, pre-47D11s rework with new cockpit, etc.  All the old skins went away.   If I recall somebody else was going to re-do it for the new model - Fencer or Greebo maybe?

Careful of the dates.. Is from 2004.

Seadog hasn't been paying attention to the dates and replying. It's nice he's friendly enough to give feedback, but maybe he should limit it to recent threads. (just a suggestion, seadog!)

I didn't pay attention to the dates, shame on me. Would still love to get my hands on that Bonnie skin~can anyone send it to me for offline entertainment?

Thanks and<<S>>

Wouldn't work with the current model. It has since been updated graphically.
