Join us to commemorate D-Day, which took place on June 6, 1944.  We'll be running it Sunday, June 6, at 3 pm Eastern Time in Special Events II Arena.  All are welcome -- no prior preparation is needed.  Just show up and join the fun.

It was the largest amphibious invasion of all time, with 5000 allied ships and 175,000 troops attacking the Atlantic Wall of Hitler's Fortress Europe.  They landed on the beaches of Normandy, in sectors codenamed Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno, and Sword.

It's the day of days -- time to paint on your invasion stripes and go hit those beaches.

Information on the setup is here:

Something does not add up in those logs. At least not on the axis side.

Well first of all my own stats.
Only thing showing up in the logs is my first sortie when i hit both CVs good.

After that i did 2 or 3 more sorties and hit 1 cv 1 cruiser 1 DD. And I got killed all my Ju88s shot down on second sortie.

If you look at the axis logs they seems to end at 14.40 ish. Just 40 min in to the frame.

So the 31 kills for the axis to the 100+ death for the allied side makes a little more sense then :)

OK, I see that now. Let me try and reload the logs and see if that helps.

I tried to upload the logs a few times starting right after the event, but with the switchover to the new sight, I was running into some technical difficulties.  Thanks, Raptor, for uploading them.

I know that the logs will run to the end, because I for sure did endlog at the 2 hour mark.  If they didn't go all the way to the end in the logs posted to the sight, perhaps there was some script bug or an early end to the conversion process.  We'll get it sorted out, though, I'm sure.

Reloaded / relabeled them with D-Day.

Just testing it myself to see if I could get the upload to work. Success!

Yep, logs are up.  The score is . . .

Allies
--------
144 kills = 144 points
87 objects destroyed = 9 points
1 base captured = 25 points
total = 178

Axis
---------
139 kills = 139 points
213 objects destroyed = 21 points
5 ships destroyed = 5x25 = 125 points
total = 285

Axis victory.

Thanks for playing all.  I had a blast and hope all of you did, too.

The allies did a great job capturing v99 via airborne landings (go Screaming Eagles! :) ).  That was impressive, I think.

Suggestions after the fact are always like arm-chair quarterbacking (sitting in the chair, all out of shape with a beer in one hand, saying "If I were in there, I would have outrun Mike 'The Animal' Spudkowski and then, despite the triple coverage on him, done the 110-yard, thread-the-needle pass to Squirrelly Joe Smithers for the big win.")

So, as I sit in here in an arm-chair, all out of shape, with a beer in one hand . . . maybe go after the closest base with the ships or in absense of that get the ships as soon as possible to one base to assault (using the benefit of fleets that stay up for quite a while after the CV is gone), and rack up some points with B-17's or B-24's here or there bombing towns.  Although, spreading out task gruops to 3 different bases would keep them guessing, and you could launch an assault from any one of the three.  Hmm . . .

Also, I think the setup wasn't balanced enough (too hard on the allied side of the setup).  For next year's run, I think it would be good to up the TaskGroupRespawn time to 45 minutes and make the points 13 per ship (i.e., half what a base is worth).  That ought to get things more in the ballpark.

True, but the thing that makes it hard for the allies is having to fly 2 sectors back to the action, instead of 1 or less.  I think my above suggestions for tweaks will help the balance.

Oh, and the axis did a good job, too -- I don't want to imply that they didn't.

Well 13p per ship would not have changed the outcome this time but i agree with the idea.
And I don't think we sunk the second CV until like 1h30 into the frame. But I could be wrong, that is not very uncommon  :D

Yep, the last CV lasted until nearly the end.  I was launching LVT's from that group until the end. :)
