When I get back to PA next week, I am considering setting up some sort of fight club in the WW1 arena.
I literally have to learn how to do it and get permissions to CM an event. Either in SEA or in WW1 arena. I think WW1 arena would be best as it may recruit more participation there in the long term.
I suppose I'd like to start an interest thread here first and see if there is enough interest to do something there.
We should pick out a day of the week and time of the day that best suits everyone and start there. Could be nothing more than everyone interested just show up and see how it develops from there. Possibly set up its own thread in the bbs under special events.
Any thoughts? pros and cons are welcome. I think maybe a 2 hour event once a week.
Maybe someone is already doing this? If so, advertise it and see where it takes us. Lately I haven't really flown much in WW1. I simply like the MAs more, however, you can learn a lot in the WW1 arena and really sharpen your skills there.
:airplane:
-
I could be interested...some great WW1 pilots out there
-
I thought Lathrobe and Crabby had something like that going on also.
-
Ah WWI...deliberately murdered by neglect you might say. Four planes introduced, wildly popular at first. It remains four planes for years, one of them too dominant, so when it becomes stale and interest drops off the official line is "Well, no one is interested in WWI combat anyway..."
-
It is rather the same as if the WWII arena had been introduced as a few bases with nothing but furballing and 4 planes, one of them the Tempest, and left that way for months and years. Then it would have failed and people would be saying "Well there's no interest in WWII air combat" :devil
-
LOL
If Crabby or Latrobe have something going on, perhaps we need to find the day of week and time. I'd be interested in showing up so long as it doesn't interfere with FSO.
If not, we should get it going again. Just a white knuckle kill fest (me dying more than others).
-
What me and Crabby usually do is flood the WW1 arena when the war is won since the MA is pretty slow at the start of the next one. No real date set, just an unofficial thing we do. :D
-
Make it so.
In.

I'm down...let me know :rock

You can BnZ with the D7 nicely.
-
This sounds fun. 9pm CST during the week would work for me too.
-
9PM CST would only give me about an hour but I would love to fly in something like this.
-
Any particular day of the week?
Next week I will set something up and see where it goes. Who knows, maybe we can start an event log or something! LOL
One step at a time though.
-
I have a historical WWI squad...we are dedicated F1 Camel drivers...if anyone is interested....

Wednesday or Thursday works for me.

Semper Fi Puller! I was 1/8 from 88 to 92 and 3rd Marines, STS, Regimental Schools from 92 to 96.
I recommend Wednesday & Thursday nights.
Best I can tell so far is 9PM CST (10PM EST and 8PM MT, 7PM PT).
Lets begin next week. I may or may not be set back up in time but will try. Please spread the word and let everyone know. I will try my best to get some G3-MF guys involved as well.
Thanks guys. Should be a good start to revive this arena and give (at least me) a chance to sharpen my skills I so desperately need...
:rock
-
Will try to be there...dragging mano by the scruff of the neck!

Just my two cents... but we should limit it to '1 day a week' event. If it were a 2 day event and say 20 pilots were interested... only 10 might show up on Wednesday and another 10 would show up on Thursday. If we keep it to a one day event, we could get closer to 20 pilots(or more) on at the same time. Either way I'm in.

Jasta 11 looks forward to the challenge.

As someone who started flying sims with Red Baron, you are darn right I'd like to see the WWI arena get some love and see some action.
+1 and let me know when you guys get this up and running.

Can one of you each week, say on Monday, post a reminder to show up for the weekly WW1 shoot out?
Is the AvA able to run WW1 AI?

Proving to be a most excellent hour or two of simple dogfight fun where everyone is laughing and having a good time, regardless of outcomes. I am completely impressed with the some of the guys in there. A great idea Slip, and I plan on continued support.

Last Wed night was great fun.
You can use the D7 to BnZ and disengage if that's your survival tactic in the MA to start with. Think of it as the runstang of the WW1 arena. The energy management is much more demanding though, to know that get out of Dodge point that you can actually leave the fight. It seems these kites don't shed parts like they once did in dives and perform barrel rolls and hammer heads now with out ripping off your lower wings. Remember to cut throttle at the beginning of dives adding in as you get a feel before your destination.
The Dr1 looks to be a tad more believable in it's maneuverability. Stampf can vouch for this because I fought his Dr1 to a draw in a D7 in the vertical. Then had to run away to reset when I gave up the tiny alt advantage I had been using to keep him in the vertical. High and low YoYo's only give you about two times around the horizontal ring in a D7 and it's obvious the Dr1 is a better turner. Not the unbelievable turner it used to be. But, an inevitable outcome if you don't disengage just like it was in WW1. No wonder Voss held off five Se5 for so long.
And the gunnery. My best advice. Aim for only the pilot no matter what you do. These kites absorb a lot of BBs which makes the enemy con at all times a potential reversal of your fortunes. The effective gunnery range until you gain some experience is 200 and closer because of the slow rate of fire. The rounds impact just a tad under the center of whatever is being used as the sight. You can test this offline by placing WW1 kites in the drone circle and chase them using the LCG green cross.

Fight Night Tonight!
10PM est.

Another week and another great WW1 club night. Was great fun again. Looking forward to this every week. Psst Lets get some small maps in rotation, maybe some more skins.
-
Definitely some new skins. You can really admire the paint on these birds while you are shooting them down.
-
Another great time. All we are missing now is...'that french guy'
'Leave the bullets with the Germans...let them take them home...' Love that guy.
:D
Great time everybody who showed up!
:airplane:
-
I think I would be interested.
-
I'm starting to get the hang of the D7. I don't BnZ. It holds up as a decent furball'r IMO.

Same here. It's more than capable as long as you don't wear out your welcome too long around some of the better Dr1 sticks like BlkMaro and that damned Iwlf guy. With the way they handle the guns they'll make quick work of anyone who doesn't have their head on a swivel.
-
That was an awesome surprise! Logged in to go MA and 15 guys were in the dog pound!
Just too fun!

A small note about tomorrow nights gathering - Some of the boys from Jasta 11 have been goggling up closer to 9 or 9:30 PM est - splitting up and warming up against eachother before the majority of the current players arrive. Join us for an hour or two of pure ball'n. It's been nothing but a great time so far flying the machines of the Gentlemen's Air War.

I had fun in there last night. Thanks JG11

Stopped by when I saw the numbers in the WW1 arena. Was fun reminded me of when the arena first came out. :aok

WW1 Arena was a real kick with 25-30+ players, though i didn't land any kills as usual. Is it usually like that on Wed nites? If so, Im there! <S>

Thank you HT for participating! It was a good time. I don't mean to step on Slip's shoes with all this. Was his idea to start this back up. I am just providing the pilots. Jasta 11 does not mind fighting the arena like last night. Was fun to be all on the same side most of the evening...and tactics were indeed needed. AkRaven and AkIndrid were working a very nice loose deuce together. Several sorties I nailed one of them only to be immediately disassembled by the other. A lot of good flying and fighting in there last night.

What's this 'tv' you speak of?
Get your feathers in there, BE. Ja, hopefully this carries on, and I have a feeling it will. Perhaps HTC will put a little more work into WWI after the new version is completed, up, and running! Would be great to get a few more planes and maybe a ordinance delivering aircraft/targets.
-
...this kit has more than one drum, if anyone else cares to beat along with me...
This Wed - Goggle up!
So far each week has seen increased participation, and longer duration of the evening's fun. Join in for some pure ball'n.

I'm ready for another 4 or 5 hours of giggling, with 10 to 20 engagements per hour, this Wednesday again !

So Stampf,
Now that you have about 30 regulars, Houston we has got a problem......
They are actually developing effective group tactics in response to your JG11 group tactics. They have lost their fear of fighting with air under their bellys. It's no longer the WW1 Arena and Grass cutting semifinals. Many are coming into the fight now 2-3k alt. How much time was spent with everyone 2k apart circling up before our flights engaged last night? And many are discovering that ww1 kites have a powerful gyroscope hanging off the nose. That if you let it guide the way with help from your rudder. Truly strange and life saving maneuvering happens. As long as they have some air under them to recover.
Oh, and morfiend's TA Wed night warmup for your Wed night WW1 Kite night, looks to be helping a lot with players understanding the peccadillos of the ww1 planes. Morfiend is very knowledgeable in helping players get up to speed in those rattle traps. Hey......you two are both in JG11....sneaky dork........ :huh

Killing DR1's since 2013. :D
