My wish is for an updated damage system- no new hitboxes required, is as follows
- Checkbox for auto-displaying what's hit, but as an added component, removing the "All Systems Normal" tag, and only displaying the red damage text. This will enhance visibility, especially in tight cocpit birds such as 109's.
- Having voice files (either blank, or prefilled) which will play when the plane is damaged. However, if multiple items are destroyed, with the most important damage (surfaces>radiator>oil>fuel>weapons>gunners>misc.) played first, then the next, and so on (the number can be set from 0 to all). This feature can be controlled via checkbox.
- Gunners should yelp when hit, and this will also be checkbox controlled.

Doesn't seem to hard to bring up the damage list, or program the list to a joystick button.
Expand, just a voice comes on and reads out what was hit?
Clarify on this one too, I'm quite confused by a lot of this post.

Ok, let's say you're in a dogfight, and you've already set your controller to do the things you want to. You can't remap, since you'd lose other functions, and you can't leave the stick.
Here's how it would happen-
Left aeileron takes a hit:
Red Text of Left Aeileron appears
Pilot Voice: Gah! My left aeileron!
-Penguin
-
To that, negative. YOU are the pilot, and a pilot would know his left aileron is gone by looking at it. So... look at it.
-
Well then, Mr. Wisebob Backsasspants, you shouldn't need a map, either, because a real pilot has a good sense of direction! :neener:
-Penguin
-
most pilots have maps with them
-
True, but not the one we have. I meant our map, and notice the :neener: and the end.

So R2D2 is behind you keeping you updated on your aircraft status?

how do you see if you are missing a rudder or elevator in an F6f? how can you look and see that your flap is missing on a P40 or a spitfire?
how can one jump out of the cockpit and climb to the front of their planes nose and look back at the gun mounts to see which guns are jammed or shotout /damaged? how can one see if they are losing oil, avgas, water, etc in certian planes? ( well unless you fly mainly in the DA in F3 mode , or in a bomber in F3 mode )
not sure about the voice warning, but I do understand about the auto display of damaged flight controls...etc...
why is it that those who don't want it have to frown upon someone who might? noone would be forcing you to use it, it would be a personal preference, just like every other personal Flight Preference is eah person's own choice to use or not to use....
if HTC thinks this is a good idea, then they will make it happen...... if not then we will never see it...... pretty simple I believe :)
-
Just look at what got hit, if you don't want to look you should be able to feel what's gone. In reality if you loose your rudder (for example) you don't see it, the only way to know that it's not there is by the feel.

I fly with a moving map, it even shows most aircraft in the area on it and identifies them. :D
-
You could replace the damage.wav sound with...YOUR WING IS GONE!
-
yeah... have you evr tried deploying flaps with only one there? and for gunmounts, just fire prim. weapons, then sec. weapons.us for rudder, just give a bit of a nudge amd see what happens. same with the other control surfaces-- if the rate of climb/roll feels wierd, chances are something is wrong.
-
I would rather their not be a damage text thing I think its kinda lame, but that's why its an option.
we need multiple a/c updated and other things handled way before a computer read out of damage.
-
not trying to flame, but why not make your own sound package?
instead of 'snap crackle pop' when your getting shot at you make it say "Damn! lost a Flap!" over the sound of it breaking off? or make it say when you take a vital hit and you catch fire "Should probably bail out now" or "Gotta get outta here!"
Never know, could be fun

The point some are trying to make is it is already available.
CTRL D
Whatever is damaged shows up in eye catching RED on the left side of the screen.
Pretty simple and obvious.

Apparently that's not easy enough for some people.
-
of course it is already available as a key command and it is simple and it is very obvious to all of us who have been here for any length of time. the point is some have wished for a new Flight Preference box to either enable or disable the damage list automatically
I can see where this will help the new incoming players get up to speed. or if you all say no, then all you nay sayers should be the ones going around every 5 minutes typing
"to all new players type ctrl d to check your planes damage list"
"to all new players type ctrl d to check your planes damage list"
"to all new players type ctrl d to check your planes damage list"
"to all new players type ctrl d to check your planes damage list"
"to all new players type ctrl d to check your planes damage list"
"to all new players type ctrl d to check your planes damage list"
"to all new players type ctrl d to check your planes damage list"
keep doing it every time you are online playing to be sure you help all the new players along in learning how this feature works. that would be a whole lot more easier , since you all think it is easy and should have not been requested. but wait! I have hardley ever seen most of you ever even offer any text help to new players in the arenas
so how bout it, are all of you -1's willing to put forth the effort to edjucate every single new player by typing
I doubt very seriously any of you would even offer to do it one time let alone everytime an individual asked :how do I know what is damaged?"

i do, if i see it asked in the text buffer...but i'm weird like that...and then there are some who appear to not know how to read so after the 3rd time i do the dot ignore
seriously here guys...anyone who hasn't gone through the controls setup in the game is just plain lazy...and it's fairly easy to understand what to do once you're in the menus...if you can type on the keyboard while flying, hitting ctrl+d isn't that difficult.

Again, the situation is that you are in a dogfight with a filled out HOTAS (Which is true for me). All it would do is press Control+D automatically for you each time you take off.
As for recording my own voice; it's not an option, I squeak and have no clue how to change the sound files.

you can't do that on the runway before you jet off into the wild blue yonder?

all you need is audacity (lots of cool features and it's free) and a microphone...a few minutes of your precious time and voila.

I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I can't take my hand off the throttle for half a second to press Ctrl + D.

As a 2weeker comin into the game I had the forthought to look up the control and through my perusing discovered a number of in game controls.
and as many video games as they younger guys play they should mostly know by now how to look stuff up.
My thoughts on the matter......... :bolt:

I still don't know how to change the sound files. I'll look into audacity though.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't think there was a specific sound file for each part you'd loose. So you could replace your sounds, but not by each piece of your plane.
-
i see no reason why ctrl-d shouldn't just stay enabled from flight to flight once you turn it on..
ctrl-i stays up.. why not ctrl-d?

yeah... i dont think there is. theres a universal sound for anything that breaks on your plane
