What if when you remove your head set, it swapped to normal screen mode and visa versa?
HiTech
-
What about resolution differences?
-
Can I ask what the advatage of this is?
Does it take long? Would it exit out of the game and have to restart? I frequently remove my headset to do things like adjust A/C or look at my phone, I would hate to have the game restart when this is done.
-
It would jump to regular full screen mode with out head seat. Place head set on eyes, jump right to VR mode.

Iracing has a distant cousin to this. In iracing, vr doesn't come in until you go to the race track. Leave the track and it goes back to screen view.
Now the downside to this setup is if you use the VR as the only source for sound then take off the VR headset, you lose sound. You can balance it on you forehead but not for a long time.
The upside is having a more stable screen view for like a short break. I have had VR crash in just a couple of minutes once removed.
-
That would make typing easier, also setting up the VR controls, and eating and drinking in 12 hour scenarios. :aok
Randy you can set the Rift to mirror the sound to your PC so you don't lose sound.
-
There aren't enough +1's in the world to put them down for me. This would be a "game changer"; put the headset on to fly, take it off to GV or level bomb, of fire from a ship gun, if you have issues targeting in VR. I think it would work.
-
Despite that I don't have VR that sounds like a very good idea.

+1111111111111111111111111 OMG, that would be GREAT! Would fix all of my little problems with VR. Such as Tank turrets,17 pounders and even Bomb sights. Uh 1 problem though and its a BIG ONE...You will need to update your "For Bribes" link, to one that will actually let me purchase and ship to your address.Already owe you for the "hit sprite" fixes :aok

Many of us have our PCs in a room other family members might use. To that, some of the language on the vox is less than stellar. i do not mind it because most of the time it is a good person blowing off a bit of steam. Sometimes it will crack you up.

You can put headphones on when you take the headset off.
-
Also it would be a feature that could simply be disabled in the vr settings.
Also debating which config files I wish to use for which. Some like window positions obviously should use the non VR files.
Others like controls I think should remain in VR.

YES PLEASE
:x :x :x
There are times I need to remove my rift for one reason or another - flying it with that tiny screen is at times a pain.

:aok That could come in real handy.

Innovative, + 1 million for me.
-
Ok I am sold. I have completely eliminated GVing and level bombing from gameplay due to VR. I would love to be able to take my headset off for the bomb run, then back on to fly home :rock
-
That would really change things for VR users.
Great idea.
In addition to this I wonder if it would then be possible to run AH through the library on a desktop without the headset being connected.
At this time it is not. When I try to start from Oculus library without the headset connected, error message appears and the app doesn't start.
I have AH on a laptop and do not carry my rift around all day. This would help me pass some dull office hours :devil
Sorry for the hijack....

HiTech
Having a disable in VR would counter the sound problem for most of us.
If you use sound systems that look for "default" windows sound devices it give them problems even with a check.
If I do not use VR, I switch to Trackir.
-
You currently have one of the best VR implementations out there. What ever you do please leave a switch to allow the user to keep the current system if they want to.
-
Question -- Would the flight stick controls revert as well? In other words, you takeoff the headset, and now the hat switch is mapped to view keys or whatever (non-VR) setup the user chooses
?

Please consider adding VR sli currently supported by Nvidia. With more power pixel density/resolution could be improved with the oculus tray tool. Or better yet offer an in game setting adjustment for the resolution/pixel density. Assumining it's not already at the max.

Sounds good, getting Sim Commander to add AH3 for tactical feedback would also be cool

This sounds good to someone who is interested in easing into VR. :aok

So we'll have this by FSO Friday night Im assuming right? ;)

Anything that adds versatility, innovation & choice to this game I'm in favor of it, regardless of whether I'm using it or not.

As in the Mirror Screen when in Vr, that would look more normal in Shadow Play game recordings? +1,0000...well its a YES,hope so :pray

I been away awhile, but getting the itch again, hence I trolled site again.
HiTech I use the rift, I would turn off all other displays once in game. I did this because the refresh rate on my display was only 60Hz, the rift is 90Hz and I perceived an extra flickering with the conflict. I made sure the vid card was only dealing with 1 device, it helped.
for what its worth.

No I mean film you can watch in VR. I think it might encourage new VR users to see what experienced players can do. Seeing it in VR is better than watching desktop film.

Ahh ok
Edit* never mind, misunderstood :embarrassed:

That would be OK as well! :aok I would settle for the normal size of Mirror, so Shadow Play recordings didnt look so goofy :rock

So does that mean it's done?
-
So does that mean it's done?
The switch yes, along with no hands option and a no mirror option cursor comes back when remove head set for window sizing.
Finalizing things like AH windows placement on switch. I believe all I have left is the sound config reload.
HiTech
-
That will help my typing. :D

Glad it turned out to be an easy addition/preference to code
I am glad you decided to add the option
Now, just have to wait until the new year for Dad's insurance to start over, since he's hit the dreaded donut hole and just one of his 14 prescriptions jumped from $47.00 a month to over $379.00+ a month...same kind of deal for the other 13 medications, ....
I had put a price drop alert for the Oculus Rift set at under $400.00 about a month before it actually dropped, but Dad's insurance donut hole kicked in just 2 days before they dropped the price and I had to use the money I had been saving to buy the Rift, for Dad's situation...
Hope they are on sale this coming January...

Maybe I am misunderstanding this feature a bit.
I was under the assumption that when you pop off the VR headset, you will have Aces High III running in front of you, full screen and flat, as it was prior to playing with VR. Is this the case? Because currently, I only see a warped version on windowed Aces High, with warped chat logs and everything looking funky as it is intended to be viewed through VR in 3D.
-
My understanding is you take the headset off, you're flying in desktop mode, put the headset back on, you're flying in VR mode.

Thats the WINDOW problem I was referring to,with recording on Shadowplay. Its odd looking. I am with FLS, hope it is going to be normal window like AH3 2d :pray

I don't think it's been implemented yet...was there a patch notes post about it being live, that I missed?

I assume Shadowplay will show the same one eye window it does now when in VR mode and it will show the regular desktop video when you take the headset off.

No it isn't in yet, Hitech is still working on it but it is close.

Looking forward to it!

I assume Shadowplay will show the same one eye window it does now when in VR mode and it will show the regular desktop video when you take the headset off.
I hope not. OBS will let you adjust the "Windowed" Vr mirror. It just records at such large file sizes, like 4 times as large as ShadowPlay. Its the window size that is problem. It is just not full screen. Yes, its one eye only,I get that. Would be nice if you could set that window at monitor dimension size. Shadow play will record desktop along with game video. So if VR window on desktop could be full screened it would record game film the same as it will now.

You can make the Oculus window bigger, Kanth posted directions here some time back.

You can make the Oculus window bigger, Kanth posted directions here some time back.
True, I saw that one. Just didnt drill down on how to do it. I know she said "If you dont have the config file, you could write it in"? Guess i was just dodging the whole, You must be ignorant impression? Yes , pride got in my way. If you dont mind, maybe give me a step by step instruction?
-
Step 1. Find Kanth's post.
Step 2. Follow Kanth's instructions.
If I had a link I would have posted it already. :aok
-
Create a vrwinsize.cfg in the settings folder (open a new text document and save as "vrwinsize.cfg" be sure to use quotes)
Open config file and put this below if you have 27" screen, if not check your resolution...
0,top
0,left
1080,bottom
1920,right
-
I think I have the res wrong, but its a place to start, I'm using OBS Studio and playing around trying to figure it out.
-
The res might be the same as your desktop..... what ever you use for that. Thats where I would start.
-
To keep from looking stretched I found 1080x1080 works pretty well.
-

The window looks stretched at native resolution.
To keep from looking stretched I found 1080x1080 works pretty well.
I'm guessing it's because the Rift aspect ratio for one eye screen is different than a monitor. It's more like portrait mode.
-

That makes sense.
-
That's probably it (one eye only), I bet to be accurate it should be 1920 / 2 = 960 so 1080x960, just tried and looks good, just have black bars on the side in video but better qual.
*edit that should read 960x1080
-
I tried subtracting 100 from the first two original file numbers and adding 100 to the last two.
This gave me:
57,top
867,left
1382,bottom
2314,right
That works well and you can change the number you add and subtract to suit your video size.
I think that's what Kanth did but I don't remember which thread she posted in. :old:
-
Also you could use...
0,top
0,left
2160,bottom
1920,right
This gives full with by stretching the vertical *2
either way, I think we get the idea.
Thanks for the help, I was looking for this too just never asked the question. :D
-
Thanks guys! Thats what I was looking for,"find Kanths post" lol . Uh,where is it FLS? :x Thanks again!
-
lol, I found one not sure it was the right one, took me ages, she has a lot of post :D
In the end I went with black bars on side, keeps good frame rate in game while recording and looks better to me.

I thought it would be helpful to get you to use the search function. I searched for "vrwinsize" by Kanth. Took about 15 seconds, I specified the VR and film forums. :aok

Would you want head positions to change config files for VR and non VR when removing head set, my guess would be no.
HiTech
-
I can't think of any reason to change head positions.
Would the FOV stay the same or change from 110 to 90?
Taking off the headset also takes off the headphones and mic and head tracking. You can mirror the sound from the Rift but you'd still be speaking into the VR headset. Can the sound configuration change between VR and desktop so you could use a different headphone and mic? Would TrackIR work in desktop if you switch back and forth?
-
When you take off the head set it switches to non vr sound settings.
FOV switches to what ever is set in the graphic settings.
Track IR would not work. It is considered a VR device, only one can be used at a time.
-
Question, If you took the headset off, then put it back on will it reset all things to VR again?
-

Yes it goes back to just like it was before you took the head set off.

No Prob Kanth, and thank you for the info.
As for the head positions, Im leaving that discussions up to others, having VR has got me back flying and I "Think" I'm getting better, or at least don't suck as bad, would be cool to remove headset for typing, bombing and prob other stuff.
Only been back 2 weeks and really enjoying AH3!

:O I started a new topic, before I checked this particular thread :uhoh Ok, to clarify, I like the change....BUT :uhoh all my hat switches are mapped to non view actions. Is there a way to have separate control settings for controllers when in VR or non VR, at time of headset removal? I can deal with using the Numpad for views as it would only be needed in limited uses, as per my style of game play. Just curious :uhoh Its a big upgrade to VR game play, and dont want to be "THAT GUY" that can never be satisfied :O I think this will be a great inducement for more players in VR. Thank you, Guys! Great job :rock

The real use is a beverage break or the antithesis.
-
I love the update!
Finally got to fly today...
Thanks!
-
I appear to be in the minority here, but i greatly dislike this change. I would like to ask for an option to turn it off, in the VR settings maybe? Or even some sort of workaround that allows me to go back to the way it was.
I experience about a 2 second black screen while the computer figures out what it's trying to do (each way), as well as I often have to hear the plane start up again each way as well. I was perfectly content with the window that was displayed before (I often prop my headset up on my forehead, or even set it down to do various things while flying), and I don't feel like I've gained anything...
-
Go to clipboard/options/preferences/VR and check Disable Auto VR Mode Swap.
-
Is HTC aware of this? I haven't seen any staff acknowledge that they are aware of the bugs/issues with the new VR implementation such as the settings being reset everytime, the hourglass icon while flying, funky graphics on desktop mode, and bomb sight calibration information missing completely in calibration mode.
-
Has anyone noticed that the vr world appears larger after the last patch. There is no way to objectively check but it sure seams to me that the cockpit and airplane are bigger than before?
-
Maybe it was a field of view tweak, or a head position?
-

You can compare screenshots for an objective comparison.

I'll double check to verify that the FOV did not get screwed up when going back to VR.

This is not what you think it is, I thought it was as well, but this makes the VR headset display identical images in both displays, removing the 3D effect. It has nothing to do with the part where I lift my headset off my head.
-
Modeus, I think it suppose to be; disable mirror in the vr menu.
As Hitech stated in another thread.
That should be disable mirror in the vr menu.

I haven't had a chance to test it yet. I think it may be the correct option but it's not working correctly.

I haven't had a chance to test it yet. I think it may be the correct option but it's not working for correctly.
I did test it, it works as described above. I do not think it was intended to be the option I was looking for, because I'm pretty sure it's not new, as well as the description that comes up when you mouse over it accurately describes what happens when you click it.
-
I think it's a new option with a bug that shows an old message and doesn't work
properly. It will be fixed.

When you uncheck the new feature it really sets the graphics to extra large. Terrydew confirmed that. When you check it back it goes back to the right size. A P-38 wheel looks huge when you uncheck the option.

Tried the new version. Mode switching worked fine, no pauses or problems. Still 90 FPS. Turning off auto mode swap worked as advertised. No difference in apparent size, VR FOV appears the same. No idea why you had a different experience. Posting your DXdiag might help.
-

HiTech
It is repeatable on my system. Disable the vr switch and you get a much larger aircraft. Enable the vr switch and aircraft goes back to previous size. As to the larger size, it doesn't feel totally unrealistic and you can see the gauges better. IMHO a size between the two would be ideal.
-
To, the "Hour Glass" issue from a previous reply. I am having the same issue. Previously with using VR, the micro freezes/stutters were way less in number.NOW, they are really ramped up. Only now I get freeze frames with the "Hour Glass" showing up for up to 2 seconds at worst and 1/2 second at least. I get them mostly after looking back to right(more so than back to left), I believe this MAY be due to having the clip board open on right side wing area? I also get the smaller freezes after using VOX,window for Name of transmitter is also on right side. The rare instances of looking left and getting the small freeze is only when I am looking left and expand the "Text Buffer" window. Yes, I paid attention! Wrote down every little instance and what I did just before the freezes! In 4 hours yesterday I had 37 of these instances. 21 longer than 1 second with 19 of those back to right view change. :uhoh I dont want to Hijack the thread, but IF this is because of a resource issue What can safely be turned off, IE in background possesses in TASK MANAGER. Am I safe to experiment with questionable processes? Meaning turn something off(that IS needed) and restart computer so process restarts and just try again, but keep that one on? Get nervous about that sort of thing :uhoh
-
Getting the hourglass oddity here as well.
-
Just noticed my VR is no longer 3D.
Update: confirmed DISABLING auto VR swap sets the VR to 2D instead of 3D stereo.

Yep, I asked you about it in game. Thats just plain ODD. I certainly didnt have that issue. Was head tracking still working? I assume it was, as pretty sure you would have been typing it RODBUSTER style lol I didnt even think that was possible. If you research this and find out what caused it, PLEASE post it. If it happened to you, we could all experience that at some point :rock Man,that would really suck :uhoh

Modeus, I think it suppose to be; disable mirror in the vr menu.
I just played with this... I absolutely do not understand what it does, but it does not stop the graphics swap from happening when I lift my headset. But I am finding tricks to keep it from happening with how I slide my headset off...
I also learned that while i'm in the black loading screen while switching, I lose VOX, which has made it nearly to the top of my list of reasons why I want to turn this feature off.
-
I get the hourglass whether I take the headset off or not. It just randomly appears and freezes the game. Certainly something that needs to be fixed since it happens every 2 minutes...

Disable mirror stops the VR mirror from updating.
Press OK after selecting it.

What does this mean? The VR mirror? One option I see gets rid of 3D altogether, what does the other do?

The VR mirror is the window on your desktop that mirrors one screen of the VR headset.
