a match play & tournament arena with earned or purchased "War Cash" For different planes
So many question pop into my head right away :uhohYes The name is War Online: Pacific
- Will this be a separate game?
- Will this replace the current AH?No
- If this will be a new arena within the current game how do we expect it to be populated?Does not interact with old game except for account names, not sure about game ids yet.
- What will happen than to the "Old" MPA arena? Will most likly change back to the old dualing arean.
- How is it gonna be marketed?Steam , Oculus and Epic Games.
- Why would i like to play there instead of the already established arena's?New games is not geared toward existing players.
I am quite excited about a new thing for the game. Don't take it the wrong way :aok :D
DutchVII
Same graphics and controls?Controls yes.
War Online: Pacific (http://www.waronline.com/index.php)
Basically a match play & tournament arena with earned or purchased "War Cash" For different planes. Online only with no arena selection.
Let the flames begin.
Beta coming soon.

Will there be P-38s?
sounds like a good way to get new players to appreciate the fighting aspect of the game. :aok
war cash is just another name for perks right and not real $$$?s
I don't think there can be a Pacific War without P-38s.... :joystick: :airplane: :rock
Earned or purchased.Didn't think of it, but bonds is not the same concept as cash. And gold just didn't seem to fit.
When I first read it I thought it said "car wash". Hmmm that is an interesting design choice.
Why not "war bonds"?

My vote was war script (slang for Military payment certificates), but we didn't think most people know what that is.

Why was I not consulted in said project :old:A SCANDAL!
And note the careful choice of name.War Online: Moskito Panik
Close enough to piggy-back on "other peoples" Google search results. :rofl
Yet doesn't necessarily lock you into WWII forever or even flightsims. ;)
War Online: Western Front 1918
War Online: Armored Apocolypse
War Online: Mig Alley
War Online: Infantry Squad
War Online: Battle for Mars
Nicely done. :salute

Do you have to go through steam?
No It will also be availible directly from us, end then later on Epic and Oculus.
HiTech
Will there be trainers, training arena, training missions, training videos or link to training available at AH3?
:rofl :rofl :rofl
Because: There is some risk that AH veterans will view this as an opportunity to harvest seals.

Controls yes.

Congrats on the new product.
Question: Might this game be ported for use on Oculus' new standalone unit, the Quest (which will be available in Spring 2019) (https://www.windowscentral.com/oculus-quest)?
Reasoning: The Quest will be priced the same as the current Rift ($399, with Touch controllers included, no tracking cameras needed). It will untethered, fully moblie, and do inside-out, 6-dof tracking, including of its controllers. Quest will use the SnapDragon 835 mobile chip, which combines CPU/GPU elements. It's expected to be a more mainstream-marketable VR hmd. But... the Snapdragon won't be capable of running the latest, very high-end VR games because of that architecture--and presumably that precludes it from running higher-end flight sims like IL-2, DCS and possibly WT.
If War Online: Pacific runs on the current AH graphics engine, its graphical requirements may possibly (?) make it a candidate for porting to this less powerful SnapDragon-based Quest, opening up yet another user market for HTC. I don't know if that is possible; but this article provides some clues about its comparison to PC cpu's/gpu's: https://www.pcgamer.com/qualcomms-snapdragon-835-prepares-for-battle-with-intel-and-amd-on-pc/ (https://www.pcgamer.com/qualcomms-snapdragon-835-prepares-for-battle-with-intel-and-amd-on-pc/)
FWIW,
I can not think of any reason why they would change there API for the new unit. So it should run with the exiting engine.

Any concern this will gut the main arena? I feel we still haven't quite bounced back from Aces High 2 conversion (BTW I like Aces High 3 and its VR support way more! =-)) So I am excited to see this! But I am concerned that all of us paying members might lose out without anyone to fight as too many will be playing free to play version. What do you expect too see in regards to that HiTech? :airplane:
I would have imagined that creating a Free 2 Play Arena would have been an easier endeavor than creating a whole new title

That way it keeps it in the realm of AH3 and customers can log in and see the Melee and SEA. Just my 2 bits anyway. I'll be following along initially and will certainly try it out eventually.
None at all. WOP is not geared to existing players. Runways don't even exist.
HiTech
If accounts will be tied between the two, can it operate such that those with AH subs can have "premium" to garner more points? Conversely if you sell "premium" in this game, they also get full access to this other game, Aces High.

What will be the draw to get people from War Online to here? Will it just something like "Check out our other game"? Or will there be something a little more solid?
I will not be able to look for myself until next week at the earliest.

I think it's going to be the whole "curiosity" bit that will get people to enjoy both titles. It would be helpful if scenarios, KOTH, FSO and yes, even the melee were cleverly advertised from within the new platform.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That sounds like a pretty good idea to me. Get them hooked, then if they're looking for something more like FSO or scenarios they may migrate over. Or they may not.
HiTech,I would say there shouldn’t be a difference. Why change something that works well?
I understand your focus is on new players.
Will a person that fly's in AH3 have to relearn how to fly in the new game or will things be pretty close to what we are used to?
Thanks,

This is good.
Now;
Is it a furball or plano a plano?
Something that forces fights with no other purpose than to virtually kill or be virtually killed is about as good as it gets. If the AH3 flight model and graphics are used, more the better.
Then numbers won’t be a problem because you’re squeezed into a space, can’t land and hopefully can’t run. The running is pretty annoying really and most of the reason for the declining numbers.
All this taking fields and winning wars is fine in it’s place, but nothing replaces fighting. Cagefighting WW2 planes must be fun by it’s nature.
This will be fun.
Next try smaller maps consistently in AH3 to really force the runners from the game and bring back the fun.
And have channel 300 with no mods, but a disclaimer to tune.
The Spitfire was in the pacific, someone above thought it was not.
The title banner and everything points to Japanese and American planes only.
Click on the web link info button and this comes up:Like a Battle of Britain time frame, then probably a battle of Stalingrad, a late 44 bombing campaign theatre, and possibly a North African one :aok
War Online: Pacific is the first in a series of fast action WWII combat simulations. War Online: Pacific uses a WWII plane set combating Japan against the USA.It couples a high fidelity flight model with fast paced dog fighting action.
I suspect there will be a European theater at some point, and who knows what else.
OK...
I went and looked at the link for WO:P ......
Says it is coming in January 2019, but after you get down to the bottom it says December?
Actually, what someone above posted was:
Which I'm not particularly convinced of, myself. We can all interject what the big picture is from a puzzle piece .... but I wouldn't recommend it. :old:

Maybe HiTech might be able to use your skills :D

OHHHH! Special arena....USS Nimitz from the movie The Final Countdown :aok
Pffft. He couldn't afford me. ;)
I am cheap
And...the sound of shuffling feet through the open door of the main arenas to see what's going on in the parking lot. :bolt:Dount it. No 109’s, La’s, 190’s, and Spits in the pacific
Best of luck with the new adventure hitech
Looking forward to checking it out
Hope Europe to follow

This is awesome news! I've been playing another product lately, but with a lot of frustration and all the time thinking how much better this and that aspect was in AH. Can't wait to give it a try! The other product is all about hide and seek, and nothing about ACM. Love them icons!
So is it already available on steam? I won't install that malware until it's available, or better yet I'd dowload it directly from HTC.
Question for Hitech, will you allow an early account registration period for us veterans to secure our handles? Or can I ask how naming conventions will go?
I do not have to worry. I mean who would want to be Shuffler.
It's a popular name. :)

This is good.
Just some more info from what has been said, asked and answered. And taking the straight point a + b = c
1. The title banner and everything points to Japanese and American planes only. So, I assume that means no Spitfires.
2. The title states Pacific points to only aircraft in the Pacific being used.
3. That there is a P-40 in the screen grab. As p40’s were used from carriers. Forget that, because I read there won’t be airfields and by that I assume (tricky word to use) no Carriers. Though the clip does show a carrier liftoff (cutaway or intro clip I guess) – oh now I see. Its’ the Wildcat upgrade teaser video.
4. No airfields mean you can’t land kills which defeats the purpose of running to attain “glory” which is good (no fake glory). But the teaser clip shows a strafing of an airfield (teaser clip from something unrelated again?)
Now;
Is it a furball or plano a plano?
If it’s a furball is it country based for strategy and laughter? That’s redundant I suppose. Japs vs Yanks – that’s a step forward.
Are comms the same, once again for strategy and laughter?
Is the game 200 enabled so combatants can speak to each other with respect and dignity - that’s funny in of itself.

and I've never seen or heard of P-40's taking off from a carrier
man you all gonna give HiTech a headache and drive him to drinking with all these questions :D
Too bad Capture the Sheep is not more popular, it's kind of like Fortnite crossed with AH3 to steal sheep. The He111 made a great sheep protection over watch while the jeep and M3 made great mobile forts when Hitech allowed them in the game. Hitech and Skuzzy were real mean to steal sheep from.Im sorry, in no way shape or form is it like Fortnite or any mix of it.
So, if I am reading this correctly, War Online: Pacific is not intended at all to act as a feeder system for generating additional interest (and players) in the "broader game of Aces High"?
I hope he is close or has the beta up and running with some of you gents helping him work out the kinks. We may never know because he is not obligated to make it an open invitation. If it has the expected controller standard by the general Steam subscriber and easy to get into action and play. They will be exposed to the AH3 engine and graphics along with the physics. You gents will probably have to play it when it goes live to see if he includes something to point at AH3 as the full monti experience if they want more.If you would have compared KOTH to Fortnite you wouldn't look like you have no clue what your talking about.

Will this be accessed from the main arena selection screen of ah3 or will it be a seperate game altogether?
Looks like completely different. No ties.
I’ll be damned. A fighter game? You have to fight in? This might be great!Mutual reaction.... :rock

- Lead computing gunsight enabled
- Easy mouse control

F3 views maybe, even though it doesn't teach very good mechanics. but definitely not lead computing sights. That would make it too easy.
Fortnite has a communal game for groups who like contributing to a less ego bruising group effort and a KOTH game for ego bruisers. Capture the sheep is a communal game once you start jailing players planes with the He111 over watch or a jeep at the sheep pen. Or have the GV's been disabled along with bombers these days. Sheep stealing is a very cooperative game unless you like being jailed while two or three guys steal all your sheep unopposed. It does not work very well as a 1v1 dueling game either since it only takes one random ping to jail you and you need a countryman shooting you to free you. Everyone gets randomly pinged no matter how good they are in steal the sheep. One side wins but, it's not an ego bruiser like KOTH type of games since no one gets shot down from fights in steal the sheep. You cooperatively steal sheep to win.Have you honestly ever played fortnite before? How is fortnite a game that’s classified as cooperative? It’s a battle royal, fight to the finish, last man standing wins. Everyone is out to kill each other. There is a Duo and Squad mode (4 player max size). The squad mode is the closest thing to “cooperative” gameplay as you will get and even then it’s not much.
Meh. I think F3 is reasonable. I have always thought it would be a good compromise for the awkward, goof 1980's key based, or joystick hat view systems. That isn't realistic either and a lot more restrictive than you'd have in real life being able to turn your head in more than set angles continuously including looking out of the corner of your eye. Of course, VR is the real solution. :lol
First thing: CptTrips, I'm ready for another go in the MPA against you LOL.... I've reviewed the film, and your "space truckin" zero won't be able to climb my six at 300 mph next time...hahaha
Heh. That was fun if somewhat ego bruising to realize how much I've forgotten about flying over a 10 year break. I did buy a new joystick for the first time in 15 years. It's has lots of buttons I need to configure so I can do everything without having to use the keyboard so I can keep my VR goggle on. Also need to figure out why I could get the Vive mic working so we could talk. It works in my other games. :frown: I'll get that all sorted after the new year and then you can give me another shot at the title. :)
I don't even think F3 is that much of an advantage. No more of an advantage than someone who has VR over some one who has to use the keyboard. I think if some players are allowed VR, certainly non-VR players should have F3 if they find it helpful.
,
CptTrips
Actually I kinda like this idea. I still have my hardware and since retiring have been spending a lot of time studying the Pacific side of things. Ive read as many books written by the Japanese side as I can find.
I've never found the AH KOTH event to be an "ego bruising" type eventHe doesn't know what he's talking about because he's never played KOTH and he doesn't know what Fortnite is....I can almost guarantee the only reason Why he brought up Fortnite is because HTC mentioned EPIC games who made Fortnite.
Just saying

Fortnite has muchhh more ego bruising going on over Aces High. Every fortnite Friday, every scrim match, every big payout tournament there was extreme butt hurt going around. Now the big butt hurt is from people not getting invites for lack of points made during pop up cup series matches.
Like junky said, KOTH was the closest thing you can compare AH and Fortnite together.
I agree that all new players should have F3 mode at least
Why? It’s borderline useless.True! I think its an perception thing? Its that alot of games have it as an option and if it doesnt....something is wrong/off unfair? Thats why I say go ahead and have it...wont help you much anyway,if at all. No factor for me, so why not :D

CSGO gets wild toxic real quick lolol. Fortnite really isn’t that bad, but the whole emoting on your kills just brings the troll level through the roof. :rofl :rofl
Only time ego was a thing in KOTH is when people went against the rules, the regulars who legit were in there for a fight never had issues...Bruv119 beat me up plenty in there, never gave him crap on 200 or on the BBS.

Edit: Epic games really hit it big tbh. Having a free game cross platformed on any council or Mobil device. In game buyable content that has no effect on ingame performance (would be like AH being free but having to buy skin packs or sound packs). Fortnite is a free game that I have managed to spend over $400 on

I have been playing World of Warships a lot recently and that has a very good system of trying to match make so that people do not get slaughtered. They also lock everyone in the room and make them fight. Sure there are a few who hide at the back and try to long range snipe but I have never been in a fight that has timed out due to runners.the bottom part of your post made me think that maybe match making should be tweaked by pilot ability. As in the higher K/D, Hit%, Kills/hour players should play players of similar stats. It keeps the new guys from being slaughtered by vets by playing people of their skill level. It also allows vets play against people who will always push their limits.
IMO if the new venture does not address that then it will go the same way as AH. Need to find a way to make people fight.

I mean the game is 1994 that's 24 years old...... 94 a giant hard drive was less than 3 gigs and a processor was around 200 mhz... so the graphics had to be lousy to even run it in 94 in windows 3.0
Back then to me a giant hard drive was 400MB. I was still using a 486DX100 processor
Halo3 had the best scoring for this. Being a level 50 was incredibly hard. You would derank if you lost a couple of matches and would always be fighting people around your skill level.League Of Legends, StarCraft, and CSGO have the only matchmaking rank structures worth talking about.

So that shoots down everyones negative thoughts and posts that HTC is putting all their time, money and resources only to WarOnline:Pacific
It's funny to watch others posting such nonsense and negative thoughts about what they think HTC is doing and don't have the common sense to realize how they are being disrespectful towards HiTech as well as pushing people away from the game by posting crap like that

As if Hitech would just dump his life long dream/quest. This HTC not EA.
Which brings up an interesting point. I hope WO:P can have a new, separate forum. Like a different URL even. WarOnline.com/forums. Maybe get a clean start and a little separation from some of the constant negativity they would see around here. Not a good impression for prospective new customers.
:salute
hitec,
Will the battles be Axis vs. Allied or a mix? How large will the individual battles be? 8v8, 16v16?
Cheers.
Not sure why you quoted me?
I was referring to the match making that junky was talking about.
it would be good to get the cvs involved from the outset.
not alot of games have any good WW2 cv operations.

If it becomes a money sink and starts to drag the "company" down like an anchor, it would be a smart "business" decision to cut it loose. Never say never.
And what makes you think that would stop any negative comments from showing up?

It's just as possible that WO:P is the life line that allows him to keep his dream game Aces High III afloat.
after so many years, having a boss would just be frustrating...
Well, you might want to wait until there is the smallest piece of evidence of that before worrying about it.
It's just as possible that WO:P is the life line that allows him to keep his dream game Aces High III afloat.
I'm not saying a negative post will never be made on a new forum. I'm saying it will give WO:P more "curb appeal" for prospective customers not to go to the forum and already see 17 years of piled up bbs excrement.

Have you reads the Steam Community Boards for AH (https://steamcommunity.com/app/651090/discussions/0/)?
Its unfortunate that there is bad blood between HTC and any number of players, but that wont just disappear by switching to a new board.
Yes, I've read them. They're really not much different from the BBS here. You have a handful of players who are verbose in their castigation of HTC, and of HTC veterans (seems to be two things that they equate), and of various facets of the game. They do not appear to be the majority of posters, most of whom are/were confused about how to get the game to work right for them.
As others have said before, you can't let the posters run the game. Good lord, HTC would have gone nuts trying to figure out whether we should have all planes perked or no planes perked; big arenas or small arenas; strat or no strat; two sides, three sides, four sides...the list does not end.
I'm sorry that those posters' feelings were hurt. But they're being dogs in the manger, and I can't respect that.

I think having a couple of Cv's roving the arena make them near impossible to sink.
Without bomber formations Lancs etc SB's, people using B5N's and TBM's would take a big organised effort to get them down = team A or B win the round.
Flying defensive cap. scouting the opposition groups it's all legit WW2 gameplay whilst also being alot of fun. Sometimes its the only thing on the map in the MA to provide some sort of intensity to the fight.
You could airstart but to reload etc put the CV in the back. As a time limit draws nearer lets say 1hour the Cv's start getting closer.
You want something that in depth, you need to play AH :D
I think this new game is going to be just like WT, fast down and dirty game play. 10-15 minute rounds then a reset. Nothing to involving, detailed, or extravagant. I picture something like that "capture the sheep" game they had when AH3 first came out.
We have seen plenty of evidence, check the numbers in the arena...... dropping week after week.
Did you read the posts on the stream page? Nope, because if you had you would have seen many old players that havent played in a long time took the time to trash the hell out of AH on those boards.
I meant, people should wait until they actually see some evidence before assuming Hitech is planning to dump Aces High and put all HTC's eggs into AO:P. I see absolutely zero evidence of that and it just sounds like nutty tin-foil hat alarmism to me.
Anything that provides another revenue stream to HTC, I see as a good thing. The more financially strong HTC is, the more years they can keep AHIII running.
Anything that introduces a new generation of players to high fidelity flight models, I see as a good thing. They may prefer a more curated experience than an open sandbox, they prefer different payment model than the standard monthly subscription, but at least you are encouraging a high expectation for flight model fidelity.
I see AO:P as almost a complete subset of AHIII. Other than some different front end menus and billing code, it is just a repackage of the existing code. That means there is very little work that won't benefit both games. Any bugs fixes or features improvements for one will probably feed seamlessly into the other because it is the same code base. They will be getting paid twice for every line of code they write. That is a bad thing?
I think they have come up with an inspired, and elegant solution. I just don't understand why a certain percentage of this community is addicted to immediately jumping to the most dire and negative interpretation to any move HTC ever makes. It may or may not work out, but I think it is a really good, reasonable safe and low cost, low impact idea to try.
Some of you need to have a couple of Shuffler's Colorado cookies and chill. ;)
Yes, I think I probably read all of them. I don't see how that argues against AO:P having it's own new forum separate from AHIII. It will still be HTC's forum and they will be moderating it.
New game, fresh start.
Once the new game starts getting players it will be easy for HTC to concentrate on adding "War Online: Europe", War Online: Eastern Front" and so on. This of course will take away development time for AH, after all they have a pretty small staff at HTC.
What efforts have been spent lately that are exclusive to the game play of AH "main" (now melee) arena? Everything that makes the game, everything that provides choice to players (i.e., to act within the game) has been the same for years (decades): Where to take off, how to spawn, things that can or cannot be destroyed and for how long, and the effect destruction has, the way things are rebuilt, and the way fields are captured. Unchanged since a long long time.
All the rest - graphics, sound, flight models, VR support, etc. - is where all the updates are being done to.
Well, maybe not all the updates. Notable exceptions are steal-the-sheep, match-play and missions arena. All of them more or less dead. WO:P seems to be more along those lines, except as stand-alone release with possibly better exposure to the target audience, and higher chance of finding its players.
(Now that the new radar for WO:P has been tested in sufficient depth in AH, maybe it can be turned off again in AH?)
The problem I see is the new game WILL attract a client base, most likely NOT AH players though Im sure some will find there way there and may even give up their sub at AH (making less players in AH to add to the problem of dwindling numbers). Once the new game starts getting players it will be easy for HTC to concentrate on adding "War Online: Europe", War Online: Eastern Front" and so on. This of course will take away development time for AH, after all they have a pretty small staff at HTC.
I guess I don't understand what you see as the alternative? Should HTC just keep doing exactly what they've been doing since 1999, and hope for magically different results? Will it be to anyone's advantage to see HTC's revenue continue to dwindle until they have to close the doors someday? The first priority for anyone who loves Aces High should be to ensure HTC stays in business. If HTC folded, you'd have no Aces High at all.
Do you really, honestly think there is some dar tweak, or hangar hardness setting, or new model Italian fighter that is going to turn the tide and suddenly put 650 players a night back into the arena?
Every product has a life cycle. If you are smart and lucky, your product life cycle curve has a nice long, fat tail that you can ride out for decades, but you may never achieve your peak again. Tastes change. Preferences for new models emerge. The competitive landscape evolves. That fat tail may not be enough, all by itself, to fund your company forever. So you add additional revenue streams to keep the lights on.
I think numbers can be stabilized. I think they can be maintained and possible improved somewhat. I think Aces High can outlast some of their near-model competitors and end up absorbing their refuges. I'm skeptical Aces High can ever get back to the numbers it had at it's peak, given changing tastes and other MMO competition.
I think Aces High is a great game. An important game. It's model appeals to a certain segment of the market. Maybe not as big a segment as in 2005, but there is a market that likes that open sandbox, persistent world, monthly subscription. I want to see it conserved for the future percentage of gamers that prefer that. HTC, as a company, may need to diversify so they can still provide that option to players for years to come.
However, as I said, there is so much overlap, that most work on any of those other games will also benefit Aces High. New development on those other games, will include new development for Aces High as a free bonus. And the revenue will keep the lights on fore everybody.
You can focus on the possible negative outcomes, or focus on the possible opportunities. It's your choice.
:salute
Well I can tell you from first hand knowledge that HTC was working on the next coming patch update this past Thursday afternoon/evening and the time was after 5 PM central and HiTech and I were on the phone with each other and both of us were logged in to one of the arenas at the same time....
I was showing him something I thought might possibly be a bug or issue...after a few messages he told me that he had fixed it for the next upcoming patch update for AH3....

Air combat. No tanks.
Had to read that twice - but knowing you, no 'h' is missing :)
I hope HTC succeeds with this - might give reason to dust off the old joystick.
Air combat. No tanks.
Okay, in April of 1945 Japanese ace Saburo lead a mixed squad of Fw-190A5s, A8s and Doras to intercept a B-29 raid. That means we had butcher birds in squadron strength so we get'm?!?! Haha
Seriously though, some technical questions:
1. Is it correct that this is compatible with Android, thus somehow it could be played on a smart phone?
2. Will it include stalls, thus good stallfighting?
3. Graphics compatible with a mid-range laptop?
4. Do we keep our old joystick and rudders, or is this X-Box type controller?
5. Open arena, thus we might see hundreds of planes in one big furball?
6. Does it include Buffs?
Yes.
Doubt it, does War Thunder have buffs?
So, like the combat challenge hopefully with out 15 minute flights.
Yes, SUBS!!! Where the hell are my subs? :pray
it took the Japanese more than 15 minutes to get to pearl harbor
what gets me is- there are people in wanting F3 mode for fighters
but begrudge me F# mode for the IL-2 in the Melee arena. :old:

15 minute climb outs are fine for scenarios, but I don't think that today's market will tolerate that much day to day. It's an especially easy way to lose a new person who gets killed quickly and sent back to tower to have to fly back all over again. It's very tempting to just log off at that point and go play something with a higher action density.
I'm hoping that WO:P turns out to be all the fun and exciting parts of AHIII with all the boring, tedious drudgery trimmed off.
It is not just the new guys that get bored. Many veterans have left the game due to the prevelance of runners and lack of substantial fights. This is what I am hoping the new venture addressesPeople read this type of comment and think Fess has an ego or some crap but the people who are left, running ganging, flying easy mode ect ect are the ones who ruined the game because their egos couldn't handle a loss.

This way people can read the message and know that the poster man not have a clue as to what they are posting about as they are NOT an active player. .

Semp is right, spot the rook spit 16 hording and HOing with a bunch of ponies and jugs and it's flippz. I think flippz is the least qualified to moan about hording/hoing/and running. Now I will admit that I happily HO and will run, so I'm not saying those tactics are bad. Just ... flippz... grow up sweetie.Yeah. From the guy who only ups when he has a full dar. And I was bish sweetie.
