Title: (XP) What sound card are you using?
Post by: Rolex on April 22, 2004, 05:31:07 PM
Getting ready to change from 98SE to XP and my 6 year-old, reliable and great sounding/transmitting Yamaha sound card has to go - no XP drivers. My #1 interest is a sound card that transmits and sound good for AH since this machine is for AH only.

I have a closet full of sound cards that don't work, so I was wondering:

1. Has anyone had success using mobo onboard sound for vox?

2. What sound card are you successfully using in AH?

Thanks in advance for any input.

Gigabyte GA-7VT600L
AMD Athlon XP 2600+
Radeon 8500 128MB
512MB Ram

I have a gigabyte ga-7va mobo with 5.1 onboard sound, it sounds almost as good as my audigy card and works fine with vox, but it causes a little bit of stutter in AH2.

Creative has some absolutely fantastic external cards for between 130 and 150.  They come with remote controls for all your mp3 needs, plus are entirely portable to another pc as needed.  They're connected via USB 1 or 2.

I have the same stuttering in AH1 with onboard sound too, zmeg.
Thanks dweebespit, but I use my Mac for most everything except AH.

I have an nforce2 pro board and the Soundforge or whatever it is that comes onboard is great.

I hear for XP the Audigy2's are a good choice.  I had terrible times with Live! cards under XP, lotsa static and probs, especially with IL2.

I use the Audigy 2 platinum, have been for awhile now.

Works great for me with XP.

Audigy 2 zs Platinum I think it is, on an Asus board, Intel chipset. Absolutely great, especially with headphones. Several orders better sound, clearer with better processing than my old Philips Accoustic Edge.

I had some instability in my system until I had to reformat. I still don't know what was causing it. But when I reinstalled XP, I installed the Audigy before anything else, and all is well.

Stay away from Creative Live!
