Title: 4th FG "Blondie" W.I.P.
Post by: oboe on December 06, 2022, 01:21:39 AM
Not sure if I should try to finish this one; we already have plenty of '51D skins from the 4th FG.  I've run across so many images of "Blondie" skinned in other sims, built as a plastic model, an R/C plane, and a restored warbird.  I also found a couple of beautiful WWII color photos of her so I was curious to see how she would look in AH.   Flown by Lt Marvin Arthur, 334th FS, and named for his wife.

None of the four existing 4th FG P-51D skins are yours and it looks too good for you to not finish it. I say go for it.

Thank you, I'll consider it.   Originally, Pierce Mckinnon's "Ridge Runner III" was on my short list as a very decorated 4th FG P-51D subject.   Red canopy trim, red-outlined white rudder - very colorful and striking.   But  it was this photo of "Blondie" I found intriguing, as it shows the red paint has a gloss finish:

I wanted to see if I could duplicate that -- it appears the red paint has more gloss (ENV reflectivity) than does the bare metal surface.   Still trying to get that dialed in and looking right.

The 4th FG is iconic.  I don't see a reason you shouldn't finish it.

I adopted the Ds that are in there now.  Yours would have the added virtue of being new.
