Prepare yourself for the fight of your virtual life as you are thrown into the fury of the battle between the Red Air Force and the Luftwaffe!  The Russians are determined the destroy the German radar complex.  The Luftwaffe must do anything it can to stop them!

Mission Group:Winter Breakout 13.Mb

Map:missn2
http://www.esnips.com/doc/d36c3d38-fa2b-43f2-864c-a9c788735fe7/Missn2-Map

Winter Breakout contains two missions:
Red Storm-Allies
Fire, Ice and the Iron Cross-Axis

List of Allied Aircraft:             List of Axis Aircraft:
40 IL-2s                                       16 190A-8s
24 LA-5s                                      16 110G-2s
20 Yak9Us                                    24 109G-6s
                                                  24 109G-14s

164 aircraft in total ;)

I spent over a month on this one, making sure the fight was equal(the player's actions will determine the victor) and to make sure the battle "flows" instead of just one big furball.  I'm very proud of this one and hope y'all enjoy it.  It's a toughy.  You better be on your toes and watching your back or death will come a'knockin'.

Recommended Settings:
x3 ammo count (you will need it)
F3 (outside)view enabled

Tips:
On runway, hit F3, then F8, then tap 8 on the num pad a few times to give you a nice high 6'oclock view of your plane.  The runway is crowded at first, so it helps to see where you are going.

Hit Alt-I once.  This will switch the icons from names(AI****) to plane types.  This helps you to stay with your flight and know what you are fighting.

Installation instructions are included in the mission .zip folder, but if you've downloaded my Raiders mission, it is the same.

Salute and Check 6

"opens mouth...no sound comes out....closes mouth"

That was the best mission I have ever played. I collided with an Il2, but will try it again in the morning. It was awesome, I was looking at the formation of 109s and then looked forward and there is just this giant formation of Russions. The radar factory is toast though. Thanks again Ranger, I don't know what the AH community would do with out you.

Great stuff, USRanger!

I've added that to the list of offline missions on the wiki (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Offline_Missions) and created a Winter Breakout (Offline Mission) (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Winter_Breakout_(Offline_Mission)) page.

As always, excellent work Ranger,  :salute.
If I really knew how to fly and LA5 or
LW iron, I'd have half a change of hitting
something. This will give me a great
opportunity to practice.

You are indeed an asset to this game, Ranger.

Thank you

<S> all.
Downloaded this mission and went to fly it. on the russian side i select a mission click ok and get a crash to desktop. if i fly the german side i can get into the air and fly a circuit but then i crash to desktop. I get the Aces high has stopped working and needs to close message. Any ideas? Cuz from what i can see it's absolutely worth playing. <S> US Ranger and prayers that Combat Tour is around the corner :D

Yea, for some reason, after being airborne for 4 or 5 minutes, the screen goes white and AHII closes down automatically... Why is it doing that?
Title: Re: Winter Breakout Mission
Post by: RMrider on July 25, 2008, 11:41:48 AM
Talon and Angels, you guys are having the exact same problems i was having at first.

I did two things to fix it, not sure which one actually fixed the problem.... but here they are.

One is i re-installed AH, this was to fix my film viewer and attempt this mission.

THe other is, make sure you have a MISSRES folder. In Ranger's missions he has special affects that need to go into this folder, I didnt have this folder because it didnt come with my Big Aces High folder. I had to create one, and once i made one and put the .wav folder into it, the mission worked fine.

If you already have a MISSRES folder and already put the .wavs into it, them im sorry i cannot help.

That was teh problem for me and thats how i fexed it, hope that helped you.  :aok

Title: Re: Winter Breakout Mission
Post by: USRanger on July 25, 2008, 03:53:36 PM
Talon & angel, two things:

As RMrider mentioned above, make sure the folder containing all the .wavs is placed into your AHII->missres folder.  If the missres folder does not exist in your AHII folder, create it, then copy & paste the .wavs folder into it.

Is AHII on your C: drive, or another?  If it on another drive, open the .mis(mission) file with notepad and anywhere you see C: change it to the correct drive for your computer the save it.

That should get you guys all set up.  If not, let me know.

I have the missres folder with the wavs in it. My HTC folder is on my desktop which is C drive. I have the most recent edition of aces high. I fly around on the german side for a bit then game crash. I can't even see the briefing on the russian side.

You are leaving the .wavs in the folder they came in correct?  The entire folder needs to go in there.  Don't take the .wavs out of the Winter Breakout folder and paste them in the missres folder.  Here is my missres folder:

Yep that's how i did it. it's weird cuz i get the briefing for the germans and get into flight but it crashes for the russians. and crashes for the germans after half a curcuit.

I have the latest download of AH2.

Any ideas?

Post by: USRanger on July 29, 2008, 08:29:48 PM
Hmm, did you remember to load the missn2 map first?  That's the only time I've ever seen this happen(did it myself).  Otherwise, I have no clue bro.  Since Raiders worked for you fine and these two were built the same, it's gotta be something easy you just missed in setup.
Title: Re: Winter Breakout Mission
Post by: jimson on July 29, 2008, 08:50:55 PM
Well, I thought I already had the missn2 map for "Raiders". Is it a different map?
Title: Re: Winter Breakout Mission
Post by: USRanger on July 29, 2008, 10:46:31 PM
Same map.  What I mean is are you loading it first, as in selecting it on your clipboard under Load Terrain?  The reason I ask is because if you happen to have the box checked that's Show All Missions, this mission would then be on there, but you might still have ndsiles or something loaded for offline use(I see you just put out 3 missions that are all on ndsiles, you might still have it loaded from making these).  Just throwing out guesses as they come to me.
Title: Re: Winter Breakout Mission
Post by: jimson on July 30, 2008, 02:40:24 PM
Thanks Ranger.

No doubt I probably got something in the wrong place, I'll check it out next time I get a chance.
Raiders was totally cool so I'm looking forward to this one.

"(I see you just put out 3 missions that are all on ndsiles, you might still have it loaded from making these)."

You might have me confused with someone else as I haven't made any missions. (don't have your talent.)

Reloaded mission, now it's working.

Very cool, but how do I keep from getting killed 2 out of 3 times from groundfire? on the German runway?
Title: Re: Winter Breakout Mission
Post by: USRanger on July 31, 2008, 06:56:59 PM
Sounds like you didn't put the missn2.fld file in your AHTERR folder.  It came with the map download. It controls which bases belong to which country.

Wow, that is the coolest offline mission I've ever seen.

Only problem I have is that with so many aircraft a lot of them are just a pixel; they appear and vanish at only a thousand yards out.  Wouldn't cutting the number of aircraft down improve this?
Title: Re: Winter Breakout Mission
Post by: bobtom on August 02, 2008, 09:45:51 AM
Or keep the same amount of aircraft and bring them in at different times and at different areas.
Title: Re: Winter Breakout Mission
Post by: Anaxogoras on August 02, 2008, 04:48:58 PM
Forgive me, but I went ahead and edited the mission, cut the numbers by half on both sides and it was a huge help.  I also gave the German fighters a clean configuration; no gondolas for the 109s, MG151s for 190A-8s instead of MK108s, and no cannon pods for the 110s.  That way they are all more enjoyable to fly.  After all, we're not shooting down 4 engine bombers here.

Lastly, it'd be nice to extend the fighting section of the mission.  Even with half the numbers, I'll still can't finish the fight before I'm warped to the airfield for landing.

Gava, you jsut have to go guns ablazing haha. I play it with full numbers and usually maybe 2-3 russians are still up when it warps me back.   :t

Glad you play and mess around with missions though, i know a few guys from JG 11 want to try them and cant figure them out LOL.

This is some great work mate. The only problem I'm having is that when I try to use any type of german plane I end up with a FW190. I had to edit the .mis file as I've it installed on a different partition to C - any ideas on that one?

Hmm that's one I've never heard before.  You guys know how to keep me busy. :)  I opened the .mis in Notepad and noticed that the 190s are the first flight on the German side.  Go back and recheck you've not missed any after editing the 190s, then try again and report back.

I had a big series of hospital bills to pay and was unable to make my subscription payment this month - will be back next month.  When I saw that you could not play free anymore in the head to head arenas I was sad, but then I found out about these missions you guys create and I am elated!

My kids came running to see what was going on when the music broke out.  :lol

I never realized how german John William's Darth Vader's March was before, now it's obvious.

This was really fun Ranger.

I'm updating my missions to the new version now.  Shouldn't take too long, but some are being a pain and require extra time, including this one.  I'll be posting new download links when ready.

*disclaimer* I know nothing about making am online mission

What all do you have to update to your missions?

I would wait and let me do it.  With all the extra goodies I throw in, it requires much more work than normal to convert them.  A real PITA.  Making new missions will be easier than updating the old ones.  I just spent so much time making these ones that I'd like to see them continue to be used.

What all do you have to update to your missions?

I misread this.  I thought you were asking what you would have to do to update them.  The missions no longer run off the xxx.mis file in your Offmiss folder, they run off xxx.res file in your Missres folder now.  As of now, the .res is what the mission runs off of, but the .mis is still needed to open a mission up in the Editor.  I'm having trouble converting the larger missions right now because for some reason, many of the .wavs that worked in the previous version crash the mission now.  So right now, I have to play a mission, wait for a crash, find the .wav that plays at that spot, remove it, rebuild the .res, play the mission again, wait for the next crash, rinse & repeat.  So these newly converted mission will not contain nearly the amount of .wavs they once did.  A necessary sacrifice to have the missions play smoothly though.  I'm busy converting my Rising Sun Raiders mission right now, Winter Breakout is next, then the others.

Please note that even though the missions will be converted & working, the custom terrains are still screwy until the new Terrain Editor comes out.  Right now, it removes custom textures and replaces them with the new defaults.  So for now, Winter Breakout has no snow. :( but the mission will still run fine after converting.  I plan on updating the terrains when the new T.E. comes out so everything will be golden again.

I took it down a couple days ago until it is updated to the new version.  It's on the list of to-dos.

I am trying to download the Winter Breakout Mission, but the links aren't worling.

Do you have new functional links for it.

I have posted things, for this and other Forums, on Esnips.

The problem that I have found with Esnips is:

Once I have posted a file, on Esnips, I can't update the file with it's original link.
I have to upload the updated file as a new upload.
Having done this,I then have to copy all the discriptive info from the old upload then paste it all on to the New upload.
This creates a completed new link by which the file is accessed.
I then have to delete the Old upload.
This all done, I replace the old link, on any forum that I had posted it, with the new link.

Ranger, are you having the same problem or have you found a way around this inconvenience?
I Emailed the Esnips support people and the said that this was the only way to update an uploaded file.

Not until the terrain & mission are updated to the new AH version.  It's in-process.  Probably a few weeks.
