Title: Air Drop of GVs
Post by: 1ijac on January 04, 2015, 02:34:16 PM
The ability to air-drop a GV to a desired location, outfitted the way you want, then bail from your C-47 and enter the GV.  You could lock or unlock the GV allowing someone else to use it if wanted.  If the GV was unused for say 5 min., then it would disappear.

Look out, I've had 3 cups of coffee and I'm on a roll.   :O

I think it would be cool if you could have a friend fly the c47 (no troops) and 'attach' a friend who is selecting a tank or GV. Then they drop you somewhere, doesn't really make sense to 'fly yourself' there to bail out.

I like the idea though.  :aok

The only thing a C47 could lift and carry would be a jeep.

which while not being very useful would be kind of fun

good idea 1 eye

Maybe it could carry a light vehicle like a jeep, m-3, m-8, or maybe even a m-18.

C47 Cargo capacity: 10,000 lbs

C54 Cargo Capacity: 32,000 lbs

M18 Hellcat: GVW: 39,000 lbs

C133 (1956) Cargo Capacity: 110,000 lbs

C130 (1956) Cargo Capacity: 45,000 lbs

Maybe in the late late late war.

Thanks APDrone for looking it up.
Maybe there is another plane that could drop a light Gv.

My uncle restored a tiny mini bulldozer that was hauled on ww2 gliders. I'm guessing they would use them to start a rough field.

I'll see if I can get a pic from him.

+1 for that Gigant plane and tank. What a blast that would be.

For every fighter pilot looking for a quick fireball.

I'm getting a bit worried that folks are not actually looking into things before they ask.  Air to air refueling and air dropped tanks in WW2.  Guess I missed that :)

...That was tongue in cheek. Unless it's used in a scenario, the Gigantic wouldn't really fit in.

Rather than airdropping a tank, you could (historically accurate) include a towed glider with a tank (M-22 locust) inside.  Pilot of the glider would select locust as cargo, and when the aircraft comes to a complete stop, replace the glider with the M-22.

I like the idea of gliders towed behind C-47s. The player would fly the c-47 and the glider would function essentially as a drone behind the goon. The player could then switch to the glider position for release. If it was solely operated by one player, the goon would continue on level for a time before blowing up once it gets out of drone distance, or a second player could join as a glider pilot while the original player continues on with the goon. Once the glider lands, the player could simply let troops out or commandeer a small vehicle held within the glider's cargo bay.

I suppose the benefit of this would be a very short required landing zone, maybe a short icon range due to it not having a noisy engine.

I suggested Horsa's some time ago.  Would love to sneak one of those in to a base capture.

Sure you can, shoot the tail off with cannon fire, watch the jeep fall out :D

Doable via the use of towed gliders.

Already you can drop gear ( on the right approach) and cause a drone to land at an airfield without you.

But actually it would be more fun if the player towed the glider to the release point..... After release the tow plane returns under AI. The player then flies the glider in and lands it, where upon he can then access the vehicle.

This could be used to put jeeps and artillery behind enemy lines.
