Title: My take on AvA Tonight
Post by: Molsman on November 04, 2010, 11:44:27 PM
First off I know I am not a Full Time Regular in AvA but here are my takes from what i have seen tonight.

Yes at times the fights were like MA but then we fixed that problem on our own by evening sides up so the fights remained even.
I hovered around some other peoples fights just rolling film and all and did not jump in until I saw that person in trouble or until they needed assistance
Then all of a sudden I noticed alot of Ho Shots I am not an Angel when it comes to this but I try my best to not Ho anytime and if i do it is an honest mistake!
then towards the end of the night I witnessed a group starting to roll the map and attacking undefended bases when I was the only one there so I did my best to defend the Rising sun land but got tired and then Logged. I know that arena is set up for all of that action but why roll bases when you know there in only one defender on Ya it is easy but then again there is no skill in taking undefended bases. I rolled a tank earlier in the night on the mere purpose to take a radar down since 3 of ours where already taken.

AvA has alot of potential and I have enjoyed it this week for the amount of time I have spent in it.

just my opinions thats all,, you can take em as whines but I am just speaking from what i saw tonight

Oh ya can someone refresh my pollock memory and tell me how to pull screenies from films....thanks

I don't know how everybody else does it but I just hit cntrl + print scrn and paste it into paintshop or photoshop, crop it to just the image, and do a save as.

Re the other stuff I wasn't on but that had to be some no regs rolling bases.

Unfortunately, there are those who come straight from the MA thinking that the only difference between AvA and the MA is the lack of icons. That's not the case. Sadly, what they've learned in the MA (and the corresponding communicative behavior) carries over to the AvA.

Last night I flew with Ranger and Oldman, and out of a team of 8 or 9 players, they were the only ones who talked or even typed on 200. We have 3 players (who shall remain nameless) who refuse to talk to anyone. They seem to be good sticks, but don't think twice about jumping into a 1v1. Yea, I know, its their $15, whatever.

I flew in the MA for awhile then finished up with an hour or so in the AvA. I de-acked a base and took it, but there were people online so its not like it was undefended.

The AvA is growing and becoming more popular with each campaign. We've got a great one coming up in late November that I'm certain will bring even more excitement to the AvA. All we can do is continue to demonstrate the type of behavior we've come to expect from the AvA. Hopefully, people will either adjust accordingly or go back to the chaos that is the MA.

My two cents.

J

Yeah I have the same sentiment from last night.  I only flew a few sorties and logged off, just wasnt the same i wasnt the only one.  Im over the chest thumping on 200 about who died or got picked or whatever, thats why I stay out of the MA.  I hate letting a few players ruin my fun and im sure it put a smile on their faces when they saw I logged off but I play this game to relax and have fun, I have 2 teenage boys at home that antagonize me enough already

For the majority of the time, the AvA sees good fights and good sportsmanship; it is growing in popularity.  With more people, comes more drama - especially with some who seem to think it's just an extension of the LW Mains.

There are those who visit that quickly see the differences and embrace them (switching sides whenever there's an imbalance, staying out of dogpiles, snapping a quick salute for a good fight and laughing at defeat).  And then there are others who don't care and won't think twice about swooping in to clear your 12, HO at every chance, dogpile onto a 3+v1 fight just to get a kill, or just be smack-talking dopes just like in the LW Mains.  (Good thing they turned off scoring and ranks to try to discourage this behavior).

I've spent the majority of my time in the AvA over the past month or so and have more fun in there than in the Mains.  One good thing I see happening; with more regulars will come more coordinated attacks/defense.  There have been designs lately (and I'm sure in the future) to encourage coordinated attacks to capture bases to add variety to just furballing.

For those interested in a two-sided, historically accurate (as much as possible) match-up, with arena settings that make you think and work differently than in the Mains, visit the AvA and don't give up after 10 minutes - your patience and time invested will be rewarded.

Pause the film where you want it, move the camera around to get the shot you want.  Go to fullscreen, then press the PrintScreen key to copy into buffer.  Open a paint program and paste.  Done.

those types of nights are going to happen. they're the exception, rather than the rule.

there's a pretty good fun seeking player base in there right now, that it should be controllable with a little effort, and sooner or later, those that don't get it will just go back to the ma where they can have their sort of fun.

glad to see ya in there! :aok

I think I finaly found out who the two y'all are always taping about in here.  They got a fee easy picks and ho' s on me early but once I knew they were doing that I evaded their tactics pretty easily.  And one on one they died fairly easy 2v1 was a lil more fun ;)

Twizzty,

Please don't let these three bone heads chase you away. You are one of the many great players who has helped grow the AvA into the quality place it has become.

These three are akin to gnats at a picnic.  Ignore them.

They have pretty pathetic lives if the have to shade themselves.  But, it is tough living the life of a coward.

Sorry, Gents, I don't have much patience for cowards, cheats, liars, etc.  Must be all those years as a volunteer, doing the right thing.

Yeah...you guys are right and I shouldn't let it get to me, but last night my frustration level was high to say the least.

My time ingame has been very limited and I really do enjoy it when I can get into the AvA with several of you on. The fights in here are some of the best in the game anymore IMO, but it's not very fun when your fighting 5 guys and 3 of them are pulling as hard as they can just to shoot you in the face.

Oh well, that's enough squeaking from me. I do respect the hell out of you guys that offer great fights and only want great fights in return. You know who you are(most of the guys on this thread for instance) and it's you guys that'll keep me coming back.

Man I did not mean to start a whine thread in this I was just pointing out some views that I saw last night ... Also I started another thread with screens from this past week I need to shrink em down a little before I put them up on the ava web site

It's not a whine thread in my opinion, Molsman.  We've got what amounts to a speck of cancer in the AVA with the three stooges.  It's worth discussing and hopefully encouraging newer AVAers to stay on because we've got a great bunch of guys in here on a regular basis.  I, for one, am not going to let the cancer spread nor push me away.   :salute

Well, one way around it is to simply do something else. In my case, I upped a Sherman and drove around for awhile. Perhaps, since we talked about it in previous threads, that we start using Skype in the background, or perhaps an unposted all-talk radio channel to discuss amongst ourselves where we can take the fight to avoid dealing with Huey Duey and Louie.

The other option - is that we leave them to their devices and play their game. I'll switch sides along with everyone else until they get the hint.

I'll fly neutral-country border patrols (gimme a '51 or 109 in Swiss markings!!) if it means that I avoid dealing with them.

I don't know what's to gain - their kills don't change their scores - we certainly don't give them less opposition than the MA, and at least last night - no one was smack talking that I could see. So what's the benefit? Being ranked #1 in a group of less than 100 active players? I don't get it.

What I would like everyone to do is to simply keep a log of any bad behavior. When it warrants it, we'll complain to HTC as a community.

nah....best thing is to ignore em. any attention at all, will only feed their desire.

i liked jherne's idea, but there is one little flaw with it.

although these guys are agitating a bunch of us, the reality is that they are doing nothing wrong. they're playing within the rules.

if we wanted to turn them in to htc, we'd hafta catch em lightin up 200, or with some sort of sheat happening.

the best we can do, is to run film whenever fighting, so as to catch anything they do on it. the added benefit is that we can then watch our films too.

this unforutnatly is something we're gonna have to handle ourselves, and to be honest, i've got the fullest confidence in the ava crew to be able to do this with/for us.

Simply put.. I won't fly with em.  I'd rather switch sides to 15 vs 3 before I deal with them (I hope you three jerks are reading this).

You don't really bug me personally. If it makes you feel better to shoot me down repeatedly then enjoy yourself at my expense.

What infuriates me is that you are hiking your collective little legs and ruining the fun of a group of people who have worked their butts off to make this arena something that attracts a certain kind of player.  The numbers have been going up over the course of the last few months and yet it seems to be important to you to jack it up. It's so much easier to screw something up than build it.  Wow.. something to be proud of.

If you want to be a gang of tards and that's what it takes to make you feel better then you are sad excuses for  human beings. Trust me I know what I'm talking about because I've been one more than once.

All of the above said I will continue to log in to the AVA every chance I get.  I will continually provide absolutely no challenge to anybody that wants to shoot me down.  And every SINGLE time I get shot down by a player I respect and enjoy the company of I'll 'die' with a smile on my face. When one of you guys shoots me down I will just continue to chuckle at your efforts to take a dump on the work of the staff and the support of the core group of players who have turned this arena into a place of interest and not a place to be shunned.

I'm extremely easy to find.  5:30 to 7:30 M-F, 8:30 to 9:30 most Thursdays, and on non FSO weeks I plan on being in there every Friday I can.

And you know what? I'll still do everything within my power not to HO, Vulch, Bomb an active fighter hanger (unless the set up calls for it), and attempt as best I can to be useful to the arena and this group of people instead of a detriment to them.

So you guys keep having your fun and keep high fiving each other.  I've really got nothing better to do and I'm not going away.  And, based on the character of the regulars and the new gents who have joined us, I don't think many of them are either.

See you in there... Tools

the only thing that keeps me from doing that, is that then i have to sit there and go through everything till i get to the fight.
