Title: HQ and Skins on a terrain upgraded from AH2 to AH3

Hi,

I upgraded my isrv1 terrain from AH2 to 3 and I have several issues:

1. HQ object had become a giant ketchup or whatever bottle? Should I just remove one and put HQ there or I miss something?
2. Skins - I had embedded skins in the AH2 terrain I moved them to new one but they seems to be extremely reflective, the way they shouldn't be.

The texture folder contains only basic diffuse texture - I didn't included specular Map - so it should use default... Shouldn't it?

What am I doing wrong?

This is what the game does for skins without the specular maps. It sucks for sure. What you can do, is create spec maps for the skin and reload the whole skin to your new terrain.

The beer bottle indicates the AH2 object name doesn't match the AH3 named object. For instance, there are no 1 mile x 1 mile city0 or mega cities in AH3, only 4 mile x 4 mile cities so each of them is replaced by a bottle.
If you used the AH3 TE to convert the terrain so you'd have the AH3 .oba file, most of the conversion is automatic, including replacing your HQs and 1 mile square Cities.

You can try it and see how that will look but I'd be inclined to follow Greebo's tutorial.

As you will see, that thread is still very active today and the skinview is very good.

It's the Normal map that throws most folks off but it's definitely needed if you make any changes to the diffuse map, for panel lines etc.

If you want the skin to look correct you need all 3 spec maps, _E, _P, and _S. On my skins featuring painted surfaces, _P and _S are identical. _E should be almost black for paint as it handles environmental reflections.

Thank you, it helped me a lot - also it seems that I need only _S - as by default many come without _E

I didn't continue to working on it due to lack of time. Actually my PC is now down and needs repairs but if you want to I can send you the sources/kinda-working terrain

And mostly the terrain was created with makeahmap + skins
