Ammo- these numbers are close to what I get now with a Diamond Viper V770 TNT 32Mb on my PIII 500 MHz with 128Meg RAM.   How can this be?  Is this an indication that our FRs are CPU-limited, not vidcard limited?

BTW I just bought the VisionTek Geforce2 MX200 Mb last night but haven't opened it yet.  Looking at your numbers there may be no point?

Mickey. what do you get. Offline, switch to knight, setting on deck of CV, motor ideling, red drones being fired at, you fire your guns, any plane?

  Mine drops to single digets.

BTW. Mindanao test does not have much going on.  I get the same numbers as you have, with half the system.  The difference should show up more in the harder test.

Please Oboe, install the card and do the test, I am curious to see how you turn out. I wonder if there is just something not exactly right with my machine.

Thx SOB, Sounds like quite a system you got there. I too woinder about that Geforce 3 vs Geforce 2. That is a big jump in funds.

your processor has ALOT to do with it.  when my frame rates are set to umlimited, i hit frames in the 80's. on the tarmac, with FSAA 2x2 and high detail mipmapping, i'm getting 35 fps average.  it runs in the high 50's when just grabbin alt and flying around.   it is a 32 meg gf2 gts(clock speed 200mhz, mem speed 333mhz) but its not so diferent that you shouldn't be getting better numbers.  p3 800eb(o.c. 857, pc133)

Ammo, I installed my Visiontek and did the tests.  Very disappointing results - basically the same as you:

Brand of card: visiontek geforce2 MX200 32mb
DDR ram(y/n): N
Res and color depth u play AH at with mipmapping on: 32-bit 1028X768
Framerate average online: 20-30,
Framerate Offline on the runway facin North at A2(1.08 mindanao) in B17: 20 fps
Drivers: 04.13.01.1200
CPU: PIII-500
RAM: 128 Mb
OS: Win98SE

I'll try downloading the latest nVidia drivers and post if it makes a sigificant difference.

Also, the icons are not stable with this card - the left edge of the country symbol in the icon flashes off and on, and the range numbers aren't fully formed and have some blinking as well.  I've tried playing around with the available settings and it makes no difference.

At this point it looks like we may be CPU limited.  This card should really outperform a TNT, don't you agree?

Actually Geforce2 MX is a very misleading product..

It has 'Geforce2' in it, yet it performs just as bad as the old geforce256. Many people get fooled into thinking they would get GTS speeds with them.

Yes I agree. I am at the same time disappointed and relieved to see your results. Now, I  am buying a new machine so my old machine wont get me down too much, however it still bugs me. One thing though.. I am a win2K user, and the 4 in 1 drivers and the 21.81 drivers would not work for me. I got the same display anomalies that you did. But at the advice from this BBS I went with the 12.41 drivers and that fixed my problem.

I upgraded from a Viper V550 so I did get an improvement in FPS.  Wow, I can't believe that you guys aren't seeing an improvement over a V770.

BTW: My test was done with the "Shift+F2" setting in AH.

easymo, If I sit on the carrier with an F6F, start the engine, fire all of the guns, I get 13 FPS.  I could not figure out how to get the CV to fire at the circling aircraft.

I also retested the B17 at A2 test again today and for some reason I am only getting 20 FPS today instead of the 22 FPS I got last week.  Maybe the 1.08 patch 1 made a difference.

OK, the problem was that I had my ISP running today and I didn't last week.  If I only start AH without starting my ISP my FPS on the B17 A2 test is 22 again.

In my DX settings, I changed the Mipmap Level Detail setting from "Best image quality" to "Best performance".  B17 A2 test is now 24 FPS and the F6F carrier test I did above I get 15 FPS now.

Have to ask Straffo, how do you get access to that resolution in Aces?  I can go 1024 or 1280, with nothing in between..

Brand of card:  Radeon 64 DDR
DDR ram(y/n): well umm YES
Res and color depth u play AH  1600x1200 32bit
at with mipmapping on: yep
Framerate average online: 30 near the groun 40-50 up high
Framerate Offline on the runway facin North at A2(1.08 mindanao) in B17: 29
Drivers: the new ones
CPU: AMD tbird 1.3

sometimes on ground attacks missions I'll do the SHIFT-F3 to reduce draw range to keep FR high around smoke.  Overall I prefer the higher res to allow easier identification of NME manuvers

Update-

Another noteworthy thing is none of the newer generation drivers would work for me until I disabled palletised textures in the AH video settings
