Title: Thoughts on AH and its community.
Post by: shake307 on October 23, 2014, 07:59:54 AM
Forgive me, this may be a long post.  I have once again found the need to scratch the itch of WWII air combat.  I am back in Aces High.  I have noticed in my flying and in the forums a distinct difference in ability of the pilots.  I see a lot of complaining about the community being bullies and not friendly to new players.  I find this a bit off kilter.  If anybody would like to witness a sh*tty community, look no further than EVE Online.  That is where I come from.  I am good there.  I suck in Aces High.  I fly whatever I dam well please (P-38 and Niki, mostly).  Don't judge me!  I have played air combat simulators since Chuck Yeager's Air Combat.  Aces High, for all its faults, is still amazing.  We must stick together.  We must encourage others to join.  This is not just a game.  It is a sport.  Real skill is needed to win.  One must know their machine.  This game emulates these needs.  I love getting thoroughly beaten.  I save the films and study them.  I am learning my various favorites (yes the spit16 is one of them, don't judge me).  This is a petition to all the players of this wonderful sport.  Don't let it die.  Don't let this dream collapse under our arrogance.  Everyone that enters the arena is a person, not a target.  Keep them here.  Nurture them and mentor them.  The fights will only get better.  The warrior's code will stand.  Welcome everyone.  It will keep this dream alive.

Cool post, good thoughts and well written. Keep the faith. On the subject of the Spit XVI. It is also cool. Fly what you want. Just have the most fun and you've already won.

Well said...

I feel the negativity comes from a vocal minority of horses backsides, and they get a fast squelch when they start their  :furious  I believe you get what you give.  I almost NEVER get nasty comments I feel because I don't give them.  The summation of the PM's I have received in the last month are "GF", "where did you come from?", and "teach me how to do that" (or a "sure" when I asked that question)...

I race in iRacing - there is almost no community there.  I can drive for 3 hours and the only conversation is about who is to blame about the crash - to be honest I can drive all that time and speak maybe 3 times.

IN AH the community is at least alive - love or hate, at least you are interacting.

I was the one who posted about the bullying and I stand by that.  I want to see people have fun, not be forced out.  I think we have the opportunity just need the fortitude to make it fun for all.

Good post  :aok

I found EVE combat lame, unless you enjoy spawn camps, call them what you will gate camps, spawn camps, a bunch of derps sitting around the gates using the game as a chat room, " oh here comes another pew pew hah hah that was great ' we rock.

Many good folks on here though some may let their emotions control their thoughts at times. AH has been a great cyberworld to be a part of and we can see a great resurgence of the community again when Players such as the OP discover AH is more than just another game.

Where else can you still feel great even though you lost a battle to someone and salute them for the intense adrenalin pumping competition.

:salute  Welcome to Aces High  :salute

I pick on newbies in tanks and should help them. They get good then get addicted like the rest of us.
I am not addicted.....I can quit anytime.  :D

AH is a wonderful place! I've met and made friends with some of the best people here,  from the first day I played I've felt at home with the game and it's great players, I've made many military friends while in the service   I consider the friends I've made here as equal to those, many of them served as well, others still serve, in one form or another, police/ fire/ reserves/ medicine, my time in the game feels like an extension of my time in the military in many ways,
I'm happy to help and train new players, and try not to get to rattled when someone gets all bent out of shape because I killed their cartoon Tank or plane because I understand the amount of Emersion you feel if your really into the whole lifestyle!

I've met A half dozen different players in person and will soon be headed to HTC headquarters to make sure the Pershing gets built,,  ( case of scotch) :noid,,,,,,,,, or just to check the place out and see another great friend I've made in the game,, and eat some darn good catfish at catfish o'harley's on the way!
I'll be back in the game in a week or so,( harvest time here),, good luck and good hunting!

Very cool post!!  Occasionally, I've had negative experiences in AH with other players but I chalk it up to AH's hidden gem game immersion.  Some folks just get so into the experience they loose their freaking minds.  Otherwise, they're children or they're just pissed (UK English  :) ).  99.9% of the time I have a positive experience with the game and it's been this way since the early 2000's.

lol yeah, EVEonline is pretty bad; it would be a stretch to call it a community. Ive played a few MMOs and still play World of Warcraft with the wife, they all have a much younger average player age. I can say AH hands-down has the "best" (i.e. coolest, mature, interesting) players of any of MMO.

The only reason this community is awesome is because Skuzzy rules these forums with an iron fist.
