Not sure if it's been raported as I'm new to Beta - just downloaded it.

In offline battle, Euro terrain - 109e4 vs hurricane setup.
- 109 MG sounds if held down too long just stop playing - aircraft still shooting.
- hurricanes AI doesn't notice being attacked, managed to shoot down 8+ and despite that they were still flying in formation
- seems that they are flying so close ( hurries ) that their hit bubbles overlap. I seem to hit aircraft 1 and aircraft 2 takes damage.
- hurries with missing tail flying forward for a while

all for now, should we be testing everything or just tanks ?

Maybe a redmine of some sort would help ?

Offline drones start out flying nose forward. Eventually they fly left wing forward. Then they fly tail forward in reverse gear. Then suddenly they flip around nose forward and repeat the cycle. Well I finally got to see planes flying backwards in Aces High. Ohhh!! I need to up a fighter and chase them around. I did this from a 37mm.

Is this another Easycor wish......... :O

Entered each arena to check for stability.

Right after entering one of the Melee arenas game crashed to desktop with "ahbeta has stopped responding" message. I believe it happened when I first moved the mouse before clicking anything. Went back in to same arena and game worked ok.

Right after entering one of the Events arenas game crashed to desktop same action and message. Went back in to same arena and game worked ok.

After that went back in to each arena a couple more times and no more crash to desktop, so game appears to have stabilized on my computer.

Drane, unless you are expecting to get sound through your HDMI connection to the video card, you need to disable the NVidia audio driver.  It can cause stability problems as it will conflict with your Xonar sound card.

same here.  loged into tank town, zoomed out of map and crash, the in the first 10 seconds in arena.  second dq came in greebos ma, game crashed once, i forget when.   tank hanger in tank town, my map on my right was in the way of the fuel tanks, had to move the map to the left.  :(  i like the new look.  :)

Thanks Skuzzy, I use Nvidia HDMI for speakers, leave the headphones plugged in to Xonar and switch in game if I need to be quiet. So far haven't had any problems with this computer in windows or any other games including AH2. Plan to eventually set up the surround speakers and shut off HDMI sound.

I went back in to allied bombing /axis defense, I had been sitting at the outside screen and I noticed all of the wait times were in negative numbers.

Third time for allied bombing /axis defense and it worked fine...I didn't change anything. Joined a mission in progress and flew a bomber for a little bit then I think ack got me

I don't think this is a new report, but I have received the attached error message from the in-game update process flow.  In patch 8/9 and 10 I was not able to run the game after seeing this and downloaded the full patch and performed clean installs.

For patch 11 I saw the error but the game executed normally.  I didn't do the full install this time.

Errors like that should not be ignored.  We cannot fix them, by the way.  It is usually due to some anti-xxxx software, like Avast or Kaspersky (both of which have been having a ton of false triggers with AH3) or you are running AH3 off of an SSD.  It seems there are SSD's which cannot handle the speed of the file deletes and copies being made by the patcher.

The message in the TE when running either Object Report or File>Check for Errors reads "Missing shape [ah3eifl2] etc

Clearly they are there because it will build for off-line use.

Similar to Drane.  Entered and exited couple of arenas.  Was killed in mission so quit. Then went to crater MA and right after, I had the stop working crash message.  Here is the data:

I tried to join the large bombing mission twice, with no luck.

The first time, i was put into flight for about 1 second, and kicked to tower.

The 2nd time, I was in flight for about 5 seconds in a b17 and the game crashed hard.

I've got everything maxed out besides the updates and it runs well otherwise.

was finally able to get into flight in the bombing mission.  AI was very jumpy but FPS held up "okay" when the swarms of fighters would come through. 

tried to get into the tanking map, and game hard crashed again like in my previous post.

Beta 11 patch installed with out any problems  on my i7 system

Went into each available arena and checked things out from tower and from F5 / CM eye, in each arena  Missions, Melee, events, etc ( each individual arena )

I thought I had posted the  different PC's I been testing on ( 3 different ones currently ) and had posted FPS for each patch, Like we did back during the framerate tests for Beta Patches 4, 5, 6 & 7...... but doesn't appear I relayed my notes I had wrote down for Patches 8, 9/10....my apologies

Beta 10 Patch: FPS for my i7/4 GB VC system in CraterMA = 183 using the default settings like we did for the previous patches

Beta 11 Patch: FPS with same configuration has dropped to 164

I see that FLS above, also had a drop in FPS..... I thought it might be due to my i7 PC has been running for nearly 5 days straight .......figured a fresh Cold Boot would improve my FPS

be nice to start flying in the Beta 3, like we did back in AH2 Beta..... maybe we could schedule some meet times to get 25 to 50 of us in there and really runout the game on our PC's.... something similar to like the Monday Night Madness, Jaeger1 and the AvsA Staff has been running in the AvsA arena for us on Monday Nights, as of late.......

( ok, time to go update the other PC's with the new Beta 3 Patch 11 )

I built out some new cliffs and increased the exposed stone surfaces on my terrain. Just noticed my FPS around them dropped into the 40's. I had to climb to 10,000ft over them before looking at the exposed stone tiles had my FPS back to 60. I'm using terrset00 and below outlined in red are the three tree\stone tiles I'm using on my terrain.

The issue of the Quit button is back. I'm forced to bring up the taskmanager if I forget to Alt F4.

I had meant to confirm before, but I have never seen any shawdows below the clouds.

Video Comparisons and issues:

Test for stability.
Test FPS with all things disabled.

Beta patch 4 - 73
Beta patch 5 - 113
Beta patch 6 - 84

Beta patch 11 - My thinking is I should report ~86 but that's before the clouds build in.
Frame rates are ~86 before the clouds build in and then they drop to ~81.

A1 in CraterMA
When entering the game with the video testing setup, I get multiple screens of low video memory with RTF=...400 and alternating format=.....32 or 51 errors.


Normally for the game, I reduce the texture sizes to 2048 and max everything else. except Post lighting or Shawdows so I can see what I've built. That leaves me with frame rates in the high twenties for game play.

Spent shell casing ejection is back!   

Good to see - however it has the same sorting problem that the engine start exhaust smoke did (thanks for fixing that) - it always appears on the opposite side of the plane from you.  If you are below the wing looking up, it appears the casings are coming out of the top of the wing.

Terrain Editor - Reporting

Maybe I'm not understanding these two commands.

I'm testing the "Level terrain on square objects" and "Set All Tiles To Terrain Height".

I imported a hight.raw and then copied over an .oba file.

The dialog for "Set All Tiles To Terrain Height" gives the expected message about use after height import and I executed the command. The trouble was, the square tile objects didn't match the terrain seamlessly.


When I followed up with the "Level terrain on square objects" command the square objects seemed to pop up above the terrain on little hills.

This oba file was originally from a converted terrain I'd unfortunately been playing with but when I opened the properties, an alt value was in place. All I needed to do was click apply and the objects settled seamlessly into the terrain. I checked the oba file and each object already has an alt value that will work much better then what I saw tonight with the menu selection. The thing is, I didn't put those values there.

What I found to work best, hands down, was Saving. That works as advertised and it does what I expected "Set All Tiles To Terrain Height" to do, or it seemed to work best with this particular terrain.

I uploaded a new version of CraterMA and ran into a couple of problems.

First I have added some new fields and the default field country assignments for these new fields have not been updated online to match the fld file I included in the upload. The fld file in the host folder has the new fields listed correctly and the fields are correctly assigned in the terrain offline.

Second I had the beta crash a couple of times as I entered the terrain and moved to a new field. Here are the crash reports:

If I disable Shadows, ALL those error messages disappear.  :airplane:

"Foo Fighter" white globe reflections, oddly placed (unable to replicate cockpit view from filmviewer).  Several white globes oddly appear while inside of cockpit.  An example of what the globes look like can be seen in the attached ufo.ahf

Also, clouds spin independently when viewed from above.  (I thought this had been fixed in an earlier patch).

The one other person with that error updated his video drivers and it completely fixed him. The error is creating the terrain shadow texture.

The CTD issues reported in this thread area all the same report the key pieced of info is ths "0002c93e".

Thats the location in the program that caused the crash. That location has to deal with clouds. Right now I am trying to duplicate it to find the issue.

Any help on a repeatable why to make it happen would be appreciated. Also remember my goal is not to make the issue stop, but to find what is causing the issue.

Duplicated the CTD issue it is an exit arena and enter arena bug. It only happens if you renter an arena with clouds.

Until next patch, always completely exit the game when changing arenas.

I thought this was previously reported and didn't want to litter.  I am not running an SSD so I think we might have to add AVIRA PRO to the list of cranky anti-virus products. 

I just checked the Avira Pro event log and found entries against HEUR/APC(Cloud) that correspond to the release dates.

Turn off Anti-Virus for updates or perform clean installs for new releases?  Avira works pretty well so I don't think I'll be shopping for a new product.

Film Viewer does not load "your engine" sounds on first run of video.  In order to repeat bug:  open "ufo.ahf" from the post below, play it and listen for plane engine sounds.  Then, stop the video playback and play again after slider has moved back to start position.  The plane engine sound should now be heard.

Please, let me know if others are getting different results, I did turn my "your engine" sounds down when testing the game (default volume is way too loud for gameplay, over shadowing vox and other cool environmental sounds).  The setting may be realistic, but I doubt that many would not adjust it, in order to play.

CTD bug.  May be able to reproduce:  Two players of the same team attempt to move to the same task group / or gun.  The result was CTD every time afterwards that I even tried to join the task group, even before I got to tower or hangar.

I currently Play AH2 on an XP machine and have downloaded various betas as well as the latest and I'm having trouble starting the game.  When the program runs on the first screen, I can't see the clip board.  Might this be a configuration problem?

Did you move any settings or install it over AH2? I think that would do it.

Another example of a (the?) reflection bug.  The inside of the B-17's cockpit is reflected on the #1 engine nacelle:

Honestly I hate to find things wrong - the beta is looking so good it's hard to even open AH2 anymore.   And getting better by the day.   

Other things I noticed:

- External sounds seem to drop off far to early.  Seems like the engine noise should be audible for quite a distance.

- The shadow gap bug is still there.  I know you've acknowledged it and haven't decided how to fix it.

- I ditched a P-51 into water, and watched in external view.  The plane contacts the water and sinks a few feet before I died.  But there is no disturbance in the water - seems like a big water splash, mist and some kind of a wake should form my skimming impact with the water (was wondering if this same effect could be used but colored brown when ditching on grass - like the grass is being ripped up during impact, leaving a "wake" of exposed dirt?)

Nothing can be done about this, it is the nature of cube maps.

Was working with clouds just now to find a good speed to deal with the shadow stutter and ran into this. Only this single v,a,w,d front of clouds responded in this manner.

Delta Mission, B17 will not warp with the formation at last SP.  Or, I missed the bus.  :headscratch:  Framerates really dropped in bomber formation to low 30s.

Easyscor, found some old Peter Max posters and his black light I see.  :)

In CraterMA started up a 109K4, noticed engine startup smoke in the cockpit by the rudder pedals. Still no engine sound in F3 mode, but it did start later on. Not sure what triggered it.

I was thinking for a moment this was an AH3 Easter egg Waffle had slipped into the game. Like those mother ships that launched the claws some years back.

I only hear enemy gv's when they are really close.....approx 1000 K or so.
In AH we can hear enemy gv's at 3k. Can the sound distance be increased for AH3 or is there a setting I
overlooked?

This is just my observation. Maybe others hear gv's at greater distances.

No, I was flying around testing FPS related to the clouds and looking at shadows while the clouds had been set at 6mph. It was cloud selection (2) at 12,500ft set to , ooopsies, just looking at it as I'm typing. Transparency = 200.00 not 0.200 like I changed all the other clouds to. I guess I get today's shiney metal Dork award.

At lest you know what 200 will do in the game now.

The one other person with that error updated his video drivers and it completely fixed him. The error is creating the terrain shadow texture.

Yep, that fixed the error messages and didn't impact the frame rates if I matched the graphics settings to the previous settings. Things like post lighting and shadows off. The problem now is I see what I'm missing with this old video card! A video card upgrade is definitely in my future. LOL

Fixed the Error messages for this Radon HD 6850 with driver:
amd-catalyst-15.7.1-with-dotnet45-win7-64bit.exe

I was too chicken to try their beta driver for their new interface.

There are a couple more files that need to be applied at the host end for the CraterMA terrain, craterma.pln that sets the fields' allowable rides and craterma.fla that sets the uncapturable fields. The latter now includes flak bases so is different to the original setup.

There is a fields setup bug in the TE, when I choose "standard" the TE allows all rides to be accessed at flak bases. I have just manually altered this arrangement on CraterMA so that only field guns and the Fi 156 are available at these bases.

The bomb sight looks straight fwd in the Ar234, in the newest crater arena.

Also the annuitetsfaktor (trim and dive brakes) are intermittent in the Ju87, just in case it hasn't been mentioned.

Or at least identify the polygons associated with the nacelles as separate poly groups with a different cube map each? You would probably have to go with a "half-baked" model as you generated each cube map, otherwise the camera wouldn't see an environment mapped on adjoining surfaces. It might be a colossal mistake to try it, because of the additional memory usage, but I would be tempted to try it.

When a new terrain is generated, all the water is at -200 but then if you use the Create All Beaches tool, all the water I checked was at -40 feet. What, no submarines?   ;)

Do cube maps add a significant workload to the GPU?   Reduce frame rates significantly?   Are they involved with any other in-game process besides displaying an aircraft's skin?

Real time creation of cube maps creates a significant work load. Just move the  environment slider to full ( this render to all 6 sides every frame) and see the fps drop.

Now just to create a some what more accurate reflection from an engine it would now take 4 more cube maps of 6 sides each for the b17.

Cube maps are used to create the illusion of shininess.

I feel like I'm getting pretty good results duplicating ]the shininess of bare metal skins using specularity.   Well, on the vertical surfaces anyway.  The fuselage and tail look realistic to me (the wings and stabilizer seem too flat and dull though) for bare aluminum, and if I understand the process correctly this skin did not depend on display of cube map info.

All the bare metal in this image has the same specularity value.  The horizontal surfaces are dull I assume because of the angle between the sun, the surface, and the viewer.  If there is a way to activate at least some portion of the specularity on the horizontal surfaces (can ambient light be an additional source?), I *think* the illusion of bare metal on this skin would be completely believable.

Also, what causes the foreground surfaces to be out of focus?

One thing to keep in mind is that just as AHIII is coming into existence both GPU houses are preparing new processors that will/should reduce the workload. How much so we will have to wait to see.

If it does not entail lengthy coad, I would think the destroyed gunpit should either:

a)  show a darkened, disturbed earth + rubble [destroyed object]

or

b)  show burning / smoking + rubble [destroyed object]

c)  just remove the shine, and the "man in the moon" (second screenshot) mud face will do. (anyone else see him?) :lol

There are so many great graphics updates, I just feel that since, these structures have been highly intergrated into game play, they shouldn't take on this uncharacteristic shiny glass display at various angles (first screenshot).

Maybe, but white is one thing, do you see the reflective rays radiating from the pit?

Brings up another (maybe bug):  Base structures disappear @ 13.7k from ship guns.  Shore Battery is visible for much greater distance (tested up to 18.4k).  Shore battery as well able to see ships at such distances.  I speak of visual from Shore Battery, because I suspected the height above sea level might be the root cause, and ruled that out.

I believe we have found something. It seems that when you are in a tank or gv with more than one gun they all fire at the same time. I see multiple streams from all guns. you can actually hear each one hit .

Logged into the online arena, the pop up about the mission in progress, i had just clicked on hangar, i could not click on either the yes of the no button while I was in the hangar, I had to move back to the tower for it to work.

Are you still looking to clean up trees growing out of the road, side walks, and walls in the town?

I'm finding them while moving around the town on my terrain's current iteration I used to make your signature. The terrain set is terrset00 but, I don't know how much my choice of tile painting up to the object's boarders directly effects what trees and bushes will popup inside of the town. I'm finding trees growing out of the side walks, roads and at least one wall. Oh and the steel frame bridge I reported several times is still showing as ghost framing while you drive on it until you use zoom.

Is this specific to my terrain or a generic response by the town to terrset00?

While on a CV in a front 40mm gun, I noticed something as the target planes came into view from the right.  The planes were flying backwards and then turned around 180 degrees to fly correctly.  Picture posted below in attachments before the plane turned flying in the correct direction.  The gun was turned all the way to the right on the front of the CV. All the drone planes did this.  I chose the smoking one to emphasize the direction.

On a CV task group when selecting the 5" gun position on the cruiser, The rear selection puts you in the front gun and the front selection puts you in the rear gun.

The message in the TE when running either Object Report or File>Check for Errors reads "Missing shape [ah3eifl2] etc

Clearly they are there because it will build for off-line use.

I don't think so.  I tried to duplicate, both using enabled and disabled bumpmap.  I am of the assumption, that there is a different gunpit at different bases.  The first I tested was from A1 and I noticed the gunpit is propped up on a mound.  When tested with bumpmap off, there was a "different" shiny shape.

So, I was about to test it at A62 (Knight base in different location) and the arena was closed, just before I got to take the screenshot, but the gunpit was NOT located on a mound.  I will follow through on this when arena opens.  Hopefully soon, so I can edit this post.

Including trees floating in the air and a single steel frame bridge that only shows wire frame when you are crossing it to enter town. Leaving town shows the steel frame correctly.

This has been a problem with a couple of SSD users.  Nothing we can do about that short of stop patching files and just ship the entire file.  Would make updates huge.  Has to do with the quick succession of the SSD trying to do its cleanup while the patcher is still trying to run.  It is actually a bug in the SSD firmware.  Try running the Beta off a hard drive and see if the problem goes away.

Kaspersky/Avast have both been very bad about false triggering as well.

That's scary. I have an SSD but I've never had a problem. Knock on wood that that never changes. Then again, I always reboot after any installation or patch. My desktop support buddy laughs at me for it.
