Post by: Mustaine on July 31, 2006, 10:31:31 AM
It's been done before a while ago, but time for a new one. (also this is the first time I've had access to a digital camera to get a shot of my home flying desk ;) )

Mine's got papers, mail, that type of stuff on it, but it's not so crowded with items! I have my printer on a different surface, but prefer to keep plenty of room by the keyboard/mousepad.

I like to move the keyboard around, especially if I'm playing FPS and want to have one hand on the numpad, and another on the mousepad. Also I like to move it to fit my joystick on the desk next to it (joystick is tucked away in a cubbyhole until needed, still plugged in though)

The only odd thing about my cockpit is that I use a Lazy-Boy recliner/rocker. It's comfy and I can fly as long as my bladder will allow. Disabling the rocker is a must when using peds. I use a couple of door stops and some bailing wire for that.

The wife sometimes asks if others go through that hassle just to 'play computer'. She has no clue of the depths of our addiction. :D

Dichotomy: you mean ignore you? :D

Do you get sound out of your TV or do you use normal PC speakers?

Paul: gadzounds! How can you really have that as your computer desk? Too small!!

EDIT: Swoop, is that fan "in storage", or is it face-down into an open ATX case?

EDIT2: I'm not one to speak, but I'll back my posts up this evening. Have to wait til I get home. I have a "clean" photo of my desk, or I could take a new one showing it "dirty".

weeellll ummm... that's the she devils lappie on the left. She does her photoshopping, makeup shopping, etc.. while Im busily dying.  The small tv on the wall was for the Xbox or PS2 until I found this game.  The big TV usually has a movie or some show for background noise.  I wouldn't MIND another monitor though :D

Krusty of course ignore me I'm still a noob and we should all know our place ;)

I don't play on the tv... yet... I use headphones so as not to annoy She Devil.  She has told me that if I want to play on the big screen she doesn't care :rofl In the interest of staying married and avoiding wife ack I'm going to pass on that offer... for now :D

lol I saw the wires in front of the scren and the computer right there, coupled with the chair position, and I remembered all the folks bragging about 50" TV screens, and just assumed you were using it :)

You are wise beyond your years.

However when she's out for the day and you're sitting there....

As long as you hide the wires before she gets back she won't know, eh? :P

Hmmm, 2 dozen empty drinks, 3 ashtrays,  1 can "cretin powder", 1 rolling machine, 2 packs of loose leaf papers, 1 bottle of lube/lotion, couple packs of smokes, 8 lighters, a box of matches, a corkscrew, 4 bottles of eyedrops, 2 cans of dip, Brittany Spears, and a steakknife. :huh

Interesting. So far, Autopilot's is the only desk that doesn't look like it belongs to an addict or an ax murderer.

Disagree. Stand up and you bump your models. Move mouse too far and ding the prop on the Macchi. Models ought to be away from the human area of a computer desk. That is, I mean, they can be on top of the CPU, above the monitor, etc, but not where the human occupies space. I used to have a nice screw-on bookshelf over my desk. It had all my models (well, all that would fit). Now my walls are lightly covered drywall and won't hold a screw, let alone a bookshelf.

My room is now bereft of models. They are all packed in various peanut-filled boxes.

It's face down into an open ATX case.

Main PC is under the desk and has a cooling issue.  Secondary PC is on the right side of the desk behind the amp, 2nd PCs VDU is facing backwards so anyone sat on the sofa (behind the desk) can browse the web while watching TV.

And those poxy little speakers on the desk are for the 2nd PC, the amp is driving 4 x 400watt 3 ways with subwoofer, one in each corner of the room.

I have one of those big "U" shaped desks with a cabinet one one side.

If I took a pic of my entire desk right this moment. about the only part of the actual desk  you would see would be the keyboard, joystick, monitor and two speakers. LOL
the rest is covered with Folders for my buisness, Receipts,Bids, and other paperwork that need to go into those folders. a few maps,
Boxes for  a soundcard and an assortment of other computer parts, their literature (some minor upgrades in store for my daughters computer) Along with some bubblewrap, a couple of Buck knives, a Shapening stone. a few screwdrivers and other assorted doodads.

doesnt always look that way....well least not this bad anyway.
But Im leaving it that way for now cause it drives my mother crazy.

And THAT is how I am maintaining my sanity while she is visiting. LOL

Yep.  But contrary to what Autopilot thinks, they're actually Rizla.

And the steak knife is there cos I needed it to cut my way into one of those heat shrinked plastic wraps around a PC game.

Curious how no-one has commented on the packet of jelly babies and the bottle of ketchup.

I took a "differant" approach to setting up a home cockpit.  I wanted a little sump'tin, that I could roll outside on nice days, and was a tad more complicated to operate.

I couldn't figure out how to "Map" buttons via the new AHII interface (hell? NO-ONE can!), so I jury rigged dials, and switches, and buttons galore to the CPU input USB's..

My monitor is only a 4 inch x 4 inch unit (note it center mounted), but if you lean up real close to it?  It works just dandy..

I'd give my left foot for a screen like that... but I see in the top pic that someone beat me to it:O

Seriously .. I have really had to lean in to my 19" to see whats going on lately so I figure I either need a trip to the optomitrist .. or a "trip" to "newegg"

Is that "chablis" in the background?  Fighter pilots dont drink "chablis"!

The last one I took, in December, since then I've drank that beer and bought a new chair... But I'm too lazy to take a new picture every time these threads are posted. ;)

Oh, and I've gotten rid of the stack of papers too, I've got new papers instead of those in there.

Actually, it is both but I do use it as my primary puter monitor. HD and DVD's are spectacular when upconverted to 1920x1080 Progressive, as is AH from my recliner with 5.1 surround sound.  Opera with a default zoom @ 180% is easy to read from 8 feet. :) My video card is set to output 1920x1080P which is the display's native res and it is connected via DVI--->HDMI cable.  The display has a VGA input also but is limited to 1280x1024.

LOL

Im dubbing some old audio tapes of a local radio station for the classic archives....its actually a pretty nice little unit.  It does seem to contrast badly with the brand new compressor gate and mixer though doesnt it

French Fighter Pilot Jaques Laroc was making out with a woman....

He grabs a bottle of red wine and pours some of it all over her face....He then begins to lick her face....

She says" Ohhh Jaques why do you pour the red wine all over my face"?

Jaques says "I am Jaques LaRoc the famous french fighter pilot and I love to lick the red wine from your sweet cheeks and rosey lips"

woman says" Ohhhh Jaques you are so romatic"

Jaques then takes a bottle of white wine and pours it all over her bare chest and begins to lick it off......

woman says "Ohhh Jaques why do you pour the white wine all over my chest"?

Jaques says "I am Jaques LaRoc the famous french fighter pilot and I love to lick the white wine form your beautiful chest".

The woman replies "Ohhh Jaques you are so romatic".

Jaques then takes some Cognac and pours it all over her female area....then lights it a fire....

The woman yells "Ohhh Jaques what are you doing down there"?

Jaques replies "I am Jaques Laroc the famous french fighter pilot...and when I go down...I go down in flames"

i'll have to try to post the pic of me infront of my screen. I have it in our squad page.  I use a front projector that throws about a 180 inch pick of my cockpit up on the wall.  Best thing ever my cockpit is lifesize

Roughly 12 feet, and not at this time, lack of a relief tube and mini-fridge access are definite drawbacks :D
