Mine are in no particular order

Shane

Arlo

1Duke1

Slash27

CUTT

Swoop73

because they are competent and wiley and are always willing to fight.  It's a shame we don't see the last two very often any more.

Anyone who can put up a good fight in recent memory I've had some good fights against Splurts (I think that's who it was, was pretty out of it),  Grunherz, Shane, and Duke and I had some good fights back in the Israel setup.

Anybody who puts up a fight is OK with me.

Slash, Duke, Arlo, Bug, on the Allied side (and some more I cant think of).

Lowe, Norad, TrueKill, Storch, Dogsta, DktrEvil, Mustafa on the Axis side (and some more I cant think of).

Shane, BigMax, Leviathan, Eagler, GRUNHERZ, and Oldman for the independents.

I have had several awsome fights against Arlo for the past several weeks, he has kilt me every time, but they were close run, nail biting fights.

Hey Grits,

Don't count on us (Dktreil and me) for a while, we are learning our new pedals.  I guess we are going to be peoples lunch for a while...

Regards,

Mustafa

Mustafa,

I rate people more on their willingness to engage in combat than their actual ability. I have the same amount of respect for the newbie who never runs from a fight, but dies a lot, as I do for Shane or Leviathan who kill me a lot.

Once you guys get used to those pedals, you will be surprized at how much easier it is  to fly and line up shots.

In a friendly way, I would have to say Lowe and Jester... Just because they got me started in the CT and being new in the squad sometimes I couldn't imagine doing some of the stuff they do. Now when we go head to head with JG54 I am always looking for those names in the buffer.

But there is a lot of good sticks in the CT can teach you how to straighten up and fly right after getting knocked down multiple times...

Its all good.

I suppose there's a potential list of players who've earned my respect in the arena. Some for skill. Some for attitude. Some just cause they're passion for the game and the arena matches mine.

I hesitate to reveal names because it would probably go to their heads.

Here's the much shorter list of adversaries I truly despise (not to be confused with the list of players that think I do based on buffer exchanges):

Thank you for the kind thought, Grits, but this really belongs on the portion of the SAT entitled "Pick the word that does not fit with the other words."  Appreciate the karma, though.

I was thinking just last night how really good the average talent in the CT has become - certainly the best I've ever seen in my time there.  Complaints (or secret delights) now aren't over the quality of the opposition, it's over the technique (b&z, ganging, that sort of thing).

No, you belong in there Oldman. Fighting spirit is as, if not more, important to me as  pure flying skill is and you have that in large quantities.

Well you can't have Zekes every week so don't let it get to your head. :D

I could easily include everyone in this thread and then some but then that would only lead to a rather long and embarrassing break in the conversation as well everyone starting to undress each other with their eyes or sumpin.

Geez ... one week it's egos clashin' ..... the next it's CT fraternal groping. :lol

Those in closets ... keep the damned door shut! Don't ask don't tell. That better not be a Zima, friend.

It's hard to pick a favorite adversary.  Pretty much all of the Allied guys are decent. Most of em get me more than I them. I like fighting against the 325th, and the Checkerboards, because I know most of em, and respect them. I seem to run into Grits, and Oldman a lot when they are flying for the other side, like with the guys I mentioned above I enjoy fighting them because our skills are similar. VF-27 , and 880 pilots seem to be particularly proficient in shooting me down , but I always enjoy fighting against them.

The guys I'm happiest when I get a kill on are in the list below. These guys I consider the cream of the crop ability speaking , and getting a kill on them is very rare for me.

Shane
Eskimo
P6EHawk
TheBug
Eagler
Slash27
Seabees
Fester
Arlo

I also would like to mention a couple of guys that have haunted the hell out of me lately. Mustafa, and KONTAK.  I think they got my aircraft bore sighted as soon as I take off anymore.

Actually I pretty much enjoy fighting all of you . Just wish i could shoot more of you down:aok

I don't have any favorites.... I have fun in the CT everytime im in there, and anytime. I am not the best pilot... oh hell i aint no where's near close to the best LOL! but zI enjoy flying with you all. JG 54, you guys are awesome flyin with, VMF-312, you guys are also cool to fly with. I have alot of fun in the CT whether it be sounding a little serious or not, I have fun with every, single one of you. Your all Awesome to chat/fly with. I Every One of You.

I always liked the large organized squad nights the most.  With JG 54 rolling along it looks like we could revisit those days again soon. I do enjoy shooting Bear, Norad, Telstar ( how you feeling?) Splurts, Storch, Bolt45, 2851, and Lowe. Good work on your new sqad Jester.  Honestly thier are too many to list, I enjoy fighting just about all of you and its always best when we are just worried about having fun instead of our bickering. (goes double for me) Dr. Evil's list looks like the CT All-Star team to me:aok  With me being the bench warmer of course:D

I probably most enjoy taking on Eagler -- 109F4 vs SpitV.

Oldman's always a fun fight when he's in a Hurricane I.

Soulyss, Grits, 1Duke1, and Arlo (when he's not running way... er.. extending) would be on the list, as well.

I'm sure there are others.  In fact, most fights in the CT are fun when the planes are fairly evenly matched.

Shane is not a favorite.  Surprised to see him on so many "favorite" lists.  While undeniably more talented than most, every time you shoot him down you immediately get an insult and/or an excuse.  Not so with any of the above.

Like Dennis, I too was surprised to see Shane on so many “fav list”.  Certainly, base on the fact he is one of best pilots in the CT, if not the best, I can understand.  Unfortunately, his bilious nature far exceeds his flying abilities making it a chore to constantly listen to his free flowing diatribe when he is in the arena.  It makes no difference if you kill him or help him; every encounter with him is followed by insults or excuses.  Thank goodness for squelching.  It makes flying while he is around so much more tolerable.

BTW:  Forgive me if I applied the male gender to Shane.  I simply meant it in the generic sense for the benefit of clarity.  I am not sure if Shane is a male or a female.  Undoubtedly, no offense is intended.

Shane finally published a picture of himself!  He looks almost exactly as I’ve always imagined him, only a little smarter and less angry looking.  I guess, however, that this is one of his few joyous moments in his pathetic, demented, excuse of a life, the moment he spews yet another insult.

not trying to piss anyone off.

just letting you guys know how much you suck. "You can't handle the truth!"

if you want to get pissed off for sucking, don't hold me responsible for it.  you need to do something constructive to help you not suck.

I, er, think that Shane's point, which tends to get submerged in his rhetoric, is that, regardless of the amount of time we have to fly, we should always be trying to improve our flying, instead of engaging in activities (um, like ganging and vulching and running) that don't improve our ACM skills.

At least, that's what I think he's trying to say.

Shane only seeks to draw attention to himself.  His entire self worth is wrapped up into building his online personality.  He knows that consistently announcing his every move and patting himself on the back will bring him notoriety.  It doesn’t matter that everyone knows that he always makes lame excuses every time he screws-up.  He knows that if he repeats himself often enough, people will remember him, forget the specifics, and then remember what really stands out – his arrogant words.  Shane is compelled to be noticed at any cost.  Heck, I suppose that if you hung out with Rainman long enough you would eventually believe that he is indeed, “a very good driver.”  Shane can’t stand the fact that he’s does not stand out as he wishes, so he tries to make up for it by talking trash on channel one.
The truth is there are countless pilots that are every bit as good as Shane.  They’re easier to forget about because after the fight they don’t spew insults, or don’t say a thing.

Shane reminds me of some the junior high school boys that I teach.  When they discover how easy it is to be destructive, they feel empowered.  They get a thrill from insulting others and/or breaking things.  Eventually they realize that any moron can be destructive; the world has plenty of jerks.  Eventually they grow up, become men, and contribute to society.  I don’t think that Shane will ever understand this.

My favorite adversary: Oldman - he is one of many very good pilots.  The thing that makes him stand out: he always takes the time to congratulate his killer.  When questioned, he’s always happy to discuss the fight.  That’s something and someone to admire.

You don’t get it Shane.
There is a real world out there beyond AH, and no, it’s not your TV.
I am: a husband, a father to 2, a teacher to 450, a homeowner (old needy home), a website administrator (non AH), a network administrator, involved in committees.  AH is about 3% of my life, playing score potato is about 10% of that 3%.

You have: the MA, the CT, the DA, Offline, the BB and TV.
Your entire life is AH.  Nothing wrong with that, but pretending like it matters…

as a teacher you should be ashamed to making assumptions based on  something you don't have the faintest clue about.

are you so beat down in your real life that you need to be ranked #1 to assuage that fragile ego of yours?

i have never claimed the game itself matters, lol.

but hey it's a free country, even anal retentive control freaks have a right to voice their opinion.

AssumptionS. And sometimes it involves "data." Just not as well percieved as it could have been. We all do it. You're no exception. `Course .... you don't gotta believe that.

because i accused him to stealing my Gruntgurlz kill. he said he never even fired a shot.

yet i got an assist, and flilteles got the kill.

would this be what you're referring to?

there was one other situation i vaguely recollect, but it must have been fairly minor since i can't recall what it was all about. if not the above, then referesh my memory.

I'm not, not really.  If me and Shane tangle, odds are better than even that I'll be the one flying away.

But he is head and shoulders above the "average" pilot, and he isn't afraid to share that with everybody.

Here is a clue for everyone that hates Shane.  It isn't personal.  To Shane, you are just another faceless newbie that doesn't know how to fight.  Occasionally he'll take people in the DA and show them some stuff.  Even more occasionally it helps.

The environment has changed some in the 3 years I've been playing.  Back when I first started to about maybe 2 years ago, people actually seemed to get to know one another.  It is a little harder to toss off random insults at someone you actually know.  But with the population explosion, odds are very good that "you" mean exactly nothing to 99% of the people playing this game.  Oh, your squad mates might care about hurting your feelings... and that is it.  You are just Joe OtherGamer to everyone else.

Eh, this was kind of a pointless ramble.  I think I'm gonna quit now.

Hating Shane is a waste of time. Fighting with him on Ch 1 or the BBS is a bigger waste time unless its just friendly banter. Shane really isnt too bad, just dont take what he says too personally. I dont really agree with his "bedside" manner, but I accept that is him and I can always squelch him if I dont like what he has to say.

When is the last time you got to know some one in the CT? Anytime Ive seen you there you've been an ass-hole. Maybe I came across to you the same,I dunno. You do have a point about getting to know some one before jumping to the insults. Its helluva alot easier to do in the CT than the MA these days.

It was, really. Now here's yours. Don't make excuses for Shane. Yes, sometimes it's personal. Shane's human and he has more weaknesses than you're willing to believe. It's certainly hopelessly habitual. So is yours. So don't try to blow that "AH lost it's touchy-feelyness due to the population explosion" thang up our keesters. Being an stunninghunk is certainly an intentional act that in the end just makes the individual more bitter than they were to start with. You are the evidence in that. ;)

Here's the flip-side ... I've finally seen Shane almost offer some respect for someone else. Of course at the same time he was in the middle of a trashtalk fight with a third party so it may have been distracting.

Now let's see how much the above bothers either of ya. :D

don't hate me because i can multi-task!!

and it's only personal insofar as it applies to virtual avatars. i rarely slam the person behind the virtual pilot, unless they lash out in that manner first - and then it's just trash talk taken to a different level. ya see, I'm *not* shane.  shane is shane. is that too metaphysical for ya?

Most of what I said about you Shane was not an assumption; it was based purely on observations.  Everyone knows how much you talk about yourself, about how lame you think everyone is and how great you are.  You can’t go five minutes without insulting someone or making pathetically lame excuses each time you screw up.  It’s not an assumption; you’re clearly insecure and have a major ego problem.

The only assumption that I made about you was that you are an AH hermit; it does make a lot of sense.  You never talk about your real life; what are you so ashamed of?  Either your real life, or your online personality…  You have to expect people to make assumptions when you demand so much attention.  I’m sure that you do other things as well, build models, write ditties, etc.   That doesn’t change the fact that you are totally wrapped up into your online personality, living in a virtual world.

If anyone makes assumptions it’s you Shane.  Ranking number one is not hard, time consuming or important, and I have never claimed or even hinted that it is.  It’s just something to do, and I like to do a variety of things, big deal.

For someone who has never claimed that AH matters much, you sure talk as if it’s the only thing that does.

Shane, I really do get a kick out of you.  Sometimes I laugh at what you say, usually I just laugh at you.  I will admit, however, that there is one thing that bothers me about you; your trash talk is destructive to the CT community.  A lot of people have less fun when you are online.  It’s not unusual for people to leave, at least for the night, because of you.  You antagonize and insult people who are new to the arena, they think the place sucks, and they leave.  Many people take your words personally.  Some people clearly are oversensitive, but with you, people get upset often.  It’s your words that are the problem.  You don’t contribute to the arena, you only bring it down.  You’re like a drunken obnoxious hobo at a party; some people get a good laugh, others just want to leave.

If you want to talk trash, go ahead.  Spew it at me and other old timers who don’t mind.  But don’t drive people away from our arena.  I really don’t think that you’re capable though; you’re a compulsive attention seeker who’s only thrill in life is putting people down.  You’re a sad little man, online and in real life.

Oh I won't deny that I can be the worlds biggest *******.  Hell, even Shane has nothing on me once I get going.

I will say that if I get cherrypicked by some newbie I've never heard of I'm a lot more likely to shoot off some sarcastic comment than I would be if I recognized the name of the guy that got me.

I'd say the people flying on my 'team' in the area will generally come out with a better opinion of me then the enemy flying in the area or perhaps someone watching Ch 1 would.

lol.  there you go with your distorted views again.

1. I don't talk about myself. I don't go on about how great i am. i *do* go on about how many frail ego'd geldings i encounter.

2. my ego is healthy thank you very much. both on and offline.

3. i'm only wrapped up in my online avatar when i'm online.

4. I don't feel the need to share my real life experiences with people *while* playing an online game. if i wanted to chat, i'd use a chat service. besides too many of you i see being incapable of making the distinction between on- and offline personalities. you're being a prime example right now.

5.  your #1 ranking seems very important to you, as you make sure you get it (if it's so "easy") why bother? why not let someone else (not me, could care less) have the "thrill?"  but, no... month after month, after month, your frail ego demands it be yours.

6. there you go, confusing on- and offline personae again. the game doesn't "matter." if AH went tits up tonite, i'd , and move on. case in point, i came from AW, but you never see me wailing and gnashing my teeth about it's passing or reliving the "good old days."  if anything matters to me, *within* the game, it's simple effort to improve ones' abilities with acm. by doing so, *i* benefit from a better fight down the road.

7. my trash talk is much less "destructive" to the CT than the various settings, setups and in general overall weak gameplay that has kept the CT from expanding beyond its truly limited playerbase, i.e. why don't more  MA people fly CT? (do a real good search and you'll find a lot of reasons, my flying there won't be one of them.) you think these people haven't seen me in MA as well - or often much worse than myself?

8.  it's not so much my words, as the facts that *i'm* the one saying them. oldman is too subtle for you guys. :) no one is ever forced to get into a ch1 word-fest with me. simply not responding generally leaves it at the one line i toss out, often something like "you geldings aren't bad with numbers." the guys who respond back often try and make it personal. they still suck at that, too.

9.  again, take a very good look at the reasons why the playerbase of teh CT has remained constant. do an honest assessment, and you might be surprised. trying to make me a scapegoat for the overall shortcomings is just.... lame.

10. deposit another quarter and try again, son. i find you amusing the way you try and come off as some dignified old timer when you're just a lame score whoring, vulching slobberdonkey.

lol, tons?  you talking weight?  urchin would chew you up and spit you out like yesterday's gum. you're no where near his level.

name 1, just 1 CT regular who you think can take me consistently 1 on 1.

of those 16 kills, how many were proxies from your acks? HOs? when i'm slow and slow? vulches? cherries? came from me actually trying to out-turn a better turner instead of lamely running off?

how many times have you faced me without a crutch and ended up getting spanked? quite a few, no? be honest, now.

Oh, I was pretty mild in there today.

Someone had a great kill on me, I think it was Deej.  Never really expected to get owned by a 110 when I was in a P-38- he cleaned my clock good.  I screwed up, I died, I tossed out a "GK", and that was it.

I think what people have a problem with is me telling someone "Gee, that was the most boring fight ever" when they spend 15 minutes bore-n-zooming me and finally screw up the zoom to the point where I kill them.  One of the two Finnish guys in there got a little pissy when I said that to him right after I killed him.

But I honestly don't care if I hurt people's feelings.  They'll get over it.  If I can goad one person into actually fighting, I consider that taunting worth it.
