Title: Greebo's updated skins

Question on your #19 VF-6 Hellcat (I think that's yours any way.) Can you modify the pilot on all skins? Alex wore a white flying helmet, so keep that in mind when you get to revising that one, as I am sure you will. (Not that it needs it. It doesn't.)

Edit in: He replaced his with a deckhand version because it had better hearing protection.

Post by: Greebo on January 09, 2017, 12:46:37 PM: The idea is to eventually update all my existing skins to AH3 standards, but given there were 310 of them at the time of the last AH2 skins update its going to take a while. Once I have updated one of a particular subject it takes a lot less time to do others, so I am concentrating on either updating or doing a new skin for each subject.

The pilot can be edited for all AH aircraft but usually only bother if its a different nationality, i.e a Japanese C-47A skin. I'll bear in mind what you said about Vraciu's white helmet and it should be pretty easy to change it.

Post by: Greebo on January 22, 2017, 02:35:15 AM: HTC want to get the current default skins updated to the latest AH III spec with normal maps etc, so the VF-17 skin is going to become the new default F6F-5 on the next big update. I'll update and resubmit the existing default F6F-5 at that time to become a separate skin. Some of the other new and updated skins I've submitted over the last few months will become default skins as well. In future though I'll just update the existing default as this is less hassle for Skuzzy.

Post by: Greebo on July 25, 2017, 10:20:00 AM: For a new shape from scratch it usually takes me about 3-4 weeks to make the first skin. Once I have that first skin it typically takes me from a few hours to a few days to do another scheme using the first one as a template.

This thread is just me updating my already submitted skins to AH 3 format by making the new maps and generally tidying each one up. The first time I update a template this way it takes me a few days, after that an hour or two per skin.

Fortunately the first time I skinned the aircraft I labelled it correctly as "549 Sqn RAF" so there's no need to change anything in the game.

BTW the purple-ish metal is something I really noticed while flying your 2S/11 Sentai Ki-84. So it may be an issue with several skins.

What might be affecting this skin though is the amount of brown dirt I added to it, since the photo I referenced showed the original aircraft was very dirty. I'll try desaturating the dirt layers to reduce the red and if that doesn't help I'll add a bit more green to the metal.

The metal colour has slightly more green and less red now and much of the brown dirt has been desaturated. I also found a couple of the metal panel variation layers had a reddish tint which I have now corrected to grey.

Yes, it's the same. But it's not a unit that participated in the battle. And in both cases, it's an LA-7 not an La-5FN.

Not an issue for Greebo, but Brooke should have picked an accurate image for his scenario.

No one's done a T-34 skin for a few years now.

I have had a look at doing templates for them myself, seeing as the T-34/85 is so popular in the MA. The AH T-34 3D shapes are not very detailed by AH3 standards but they aren't too bad bug-wise. The problem is there's not a great variety of schemes to be done for them (green, white or Wehrmacht basically) and usable WW2 photos for them are a bit scarce. The lack of skin updates for the game recently isn't really inspiring me to start another template anyway.

Not for the MA, a T-6 wouldn't be an acceptable substitution and trainer skins are only allowed if they might have seen combat (usually late war Japanese fighters). The above SBD was actually an army A-24 but this is an acceptable substitution. While it was used as a squadron hack and for checking out new pilots it also had a combat role, spotting and marking targets for the group's bombers.
