Title: New Installer Test
Post by: Skuzzy on November 08, 2018, 10:00:26 AM
Just posted up a new version of the test installation executable (http://dload.hitechcreations.com/AHIII3402.EXE).

Download: AHII3401TEST1.EXE (http://dload.hitechcreations.com/AHIII3402.EXE)

This is a test version of the real release of the game, so be sure to install it over the top of the existing version of your game (even if you have already patched it to the current release) or you might have some issues down the road.

The following changes were made from the previous test version.

1)  We updated the install builder tools.
2)  We changed how the download of stdshapes.res is done to see if it might help those who have reported slow downloads.
3)  This test build contains the actual release versions of all the files.  It will not harm your current installation.  Just answer "No" to creating a desktop ICON, if you already have one.

Took the same ~5 minutes to download as the previous test.

Took about 20 minutes to download stdshapes.res.

When I try to start the game I get an error message saying

Initialization failed with -9
mainWLD_FAILED -1

As a side note, Avast wanted to check the .exe which hasn't happened for a long time.

[edit] Redownloaded the installation, again less than 5 minutes. Shut down Avast before starting the installation. Had to cancel the process four times and restart until the download speed for stdshapes.res was showing other than 40 ish kB/s, 10-15 hours. Now it's doing ~1450 kB/s, 15 minutes left.

Avast interfered with the installation, which is not that uncommon.  Remove your desktop ICON, then do a full install over the top of the existing installation and let it build a new desktop ICON.  That should fix it.

Came to the same conclusion, you managed to sneak your advice in while I was typing the edit.

What is interesting to note is there are always multiple, full downloads of stdshapes, res for each person who has registered an issue with the download speed.  Not sure why that is.  In your case, three complete downloads finishing about 1 minute apart from each other.  I noted the same behavior before.

Now that sounds funny! My connection should be pretty stable, a 24 MB ADSL. Maybe I should reboot the modem.

It's not just you.  It is every person who has stated they were having download performance problems shows the same thing.  I cannot fathom what would be causing it.

Win 10 did the same thing.  Wasn't a big deal but more of FYI

I understood it wasn't just me. What I was thinking about is that there must be many people who haven't restarted their modems in a while. Not to mention those who don't reboot their computers.

stdshapes downloaded normally on the first try, using my maximum internet speed.
Installation was fine.
Game booted and played very well.  Exited the game with no issues.

Edit: On the previous test I had the slow download issue.  On this test I did not.

Stdshape 20 min download, install fine, game starts up quickly and smooth.

It could be me but, there appears to be more clarity of shapes at distance with this patch. I've been running gunnery tests offline for the last 3 days before and after this patch.

Download of the patch went quickly, only a minute. The install went as others have said, it sails right along until the stdshape file download. At that point I got a very slow speed and 4 hour estimate. Cancelling it and trying again it took 2 minutes. Game played normally without issue in the few mins I had.

Installed fine... played and still froze/ locked up needing a task manager exit  :bhead
I was on about 30 mins, at first in vehicles... but (not sure if this relevant) but approx. 5 mins
in hog D, froze/locked up requiring exit from task manager
No .dmp file but if it occurs again, I will create a .dmp file from the task manager and split it into
several files if needed

No need to split it.  Just ZIP it up.  It compresses really well.

I would rather see a DXDIAG output.

Are you running any anti-xxx software?  If so, which one?

Download of AHIII3401TEST1.EXE went smooth at my max ips speed.
Game ran smooth on DX11 in Oculus Rift. Immensely smoother with hardly a stutter.

Installation and download went ok, took about 5 minutes in total.

After uninstallation the folder is still there though.

Download took about an hour, started quick but slowed way down. Install went well until I hit the stdshapes file and again slowed way down, almost an hour.

On the other hand, as a test, I downloaded the full version from the site. Downloaded in 5 minutes. Install rolled right along until it hit the stdshapes file and it died again, 25 minutes.

After about an hour of playing, spawned in a wirble and as I was driving out of the hanger. The voice message of our feilds are being attacked started and the first half gave a screen freeze then picked up finishing clean at the last half of the message. Another 30 min of playing and no screen freezes nor anymore automated messages.

Hope you saved your "Settings older"...but pretty sure it wont be a problem..Being NEW install...you will need to reset all controls to the way you had them set. Only difference I found, was the Gun Sights set back to default....

If you still have the game installed, you can simply run it and it will update itself, or download the full install of the game and install over the top of your existing installation.

My download was showing almost 4 hours so I checked my internet speed which was fine (211/11). Tried to continue download and still slow so I cancelled it and started over. It downloaded in less than a minute.

So far no issues.

what I'm saying is I had to unload the game when I reset my computer to factory specs.
so should I or will I have any problems downloading the game or is there something special I need to do?
it will be like I'm down loading for the 1st time-with my internet it takes about 4 to 5 hrs to download the game.

Lunatic, if you've reset your computer to factory specs, there's a ton of Windows updates after that, maybe also some driver updates from the manufacturer using their updater. Aside of those there's nothing special you'd have to do before downloading AH.

If you're downloading this very Test version, there's been issues with downloading the stdshapes.res file in the lower progression bar.

If you have custom gunsights or have associated the existing gunsights differently than how I originally set them up for AH3. Before you run any of these patches updating to 3.04, save off your sights directory. Then copy over all the .txt files after the update because they hold what you mapped to each aircraft or ride in the game for an optical gunsight. It's a good idea to back up your game directories occasionally anyway just in case.

These are the most important in general to backup from time to time or, just before you blow away your install to run a new full install. The sub directory of the "settings" folder called "planes", holds the head position files (hps) for each ride that you custom adjusted your views for.

ok I have downloaded AH# 4 times 48 minutes each which is better than the 3 hours it took before-but when it gets to the (stdshape.res it pops up at 4 hours and times out and stops down load-----any help?

keep running the install over again. Instead of packaging the stdshapes file WITH the initial download they are calling it during the installation. For some reason that server is running a slow download, but you can hit it where it moves quicker. The first couple of times I did mine it would slow real bad on that file, but then the last time it ran off in 20 minutes...... third time was a charm   :D

Yep.
I cancelled my first attempt after about 2 hours and tried again.  Worked fine on the second try.

The stdshapes stopped at 80% and into a 2 hour download and dumped out. Had to reinstall a 2nd time and stdshapes did not pick up where it left off had to start all over with a 2 hour download.

Total time for this update then totaled 4 hours.

well I got the game to download, but had to go thru STEAM to do it-I didn't want to.  it means opening in account with steam and using a new call sign. I don't want to close my AH3 account with HTC and lose my achievements but if I want to play the game that's what I have to do.

trying HTC download/update 1 last time.

You don't have to download AH more than once. Just re-run the same download. Try off hours when it's not so busy and don't download anything else, like movies, at the same time.

Those of you who are having problems.

Are you running any type of anti-xxxx software?  Disable it, if you can, before you start the download.
If you are running anti-xxxx software, which one?
What operating system are you running?  If you are running Windows 10, make sure you are not getting an update from Microsoft before you try and update the game.

Im running WIN7 and use Avira for my anti-xxxx software.

I turned off Avira and started the download again. The first 25-30 MB downloads in a few seconds (over 1 MB a second), then it will slow to about 100-130 KB a sec for the rest of the download.

Also, I flew with DX11 version last night and had a number of freezes and switched back to the DX9 version.

Bustr, are you saying we can customize the Hat switch positions for each aircraft?

You can change your views of each cockpit that correspond to the numpad key combinations. When you hit F10 it generates an hps text file in the planes directory. If you delete that file all your views return to the default from a first time install. If you use TR in more than 2-axis mode this won't matter while in VR I think you can map a rear 6 view to a key. I use TR in 2-axis mode which uses the views from the hps file as I pan my head around.

Same as with me...when alot of chatter mixed with explosions or gun fire..it WILL freeze up a bit(longest was 4 seconds).

Ran the update as follows:

Download took 6 mins 45 secs to complete.
Stdshapes.res took 45 mins to install @ avg 607kB\sec which is about normal download speeds of any files of this size across my ADSL connection.

Game opens, runs fine & exits fine under both Dx9 & Dx11 API's.

Have Webroot SecureAnywhere for Gamers along w\ Win 10' Windows Defender anti-xxx running in tandem in the background.....no signs of interference seen or noted during this process.
