A few notes before we begin:
I asked and TC accepted the role of Assistant Administrator in case I'm unavailable for some reason or I'm involved in a dispute. If I'm unavailable TC takes over with full authority to run the bracket and his decisions become final. If I'm involved in a dispute TC's resolution is final. TC was on the review committee for every tournament and while we sometimes disagree I have full confidence he'll do what's in the best interests of the tournament and the players if needed.
I added some language to the rules regarding the contingeny rounds in the semifinal and final rounds. It's in the rules under the heading Double Elimination.
I spruced up the bracket and made minor changes to try to make it easier to read. Unfortunately photobucket limits me to 1024x768 maximum file size.
I took Shane off the roster since he never responded in the sign-up thread or to my PM. Debrody asked to be taken off too late (the bracket was already set up). If he plays great, if not I'll list him as a scratch when I update the bracket next week.
With Debrody included we have 56 participants, eight short of a full bracket so there will be some byes in the first round and in the first losers bracket. After that there shouldn't be any more byes unless someone forfeits.
Here's the final roster sorted by in-game name to make it easier to cross reference to find your opponent's BBs name.

· Setting up the Bracket
- Brackets will be determined by random draw of names produced by a random number generator in MS Excel.
- Depending on the number of players some may have to fly one more round than others. They will be chosen randomly and disbursed evenly through pre-selected slots in the bracket to achieve balance at the nearest bracket root(s).
- If a player changes their in-game or BBs name during the tournament they must either post that change in the bracket and results thread or PM me with the change. The bracket is set by in-game name so people know who to look for.
- The initial bracket will be posted on Sunday, February 3 and each Sunday thereafter until a winner has been determined.
· General Tournament Rules
- Duels must be arranged between the players to take place by 6:00 PM CST/CDT Sunday following each bracket update (6 days).
- Duel series will be best of five until the quarterfinal round. From the quarterfinal round forward duel series will be best of seven.
- First duel plane selection will be assigned using a random number generator to select from all available fighter and fighter/attack aircraft (except the Me163, Me262 and WWI aircraft). This will be done individually for each set of duelers.
- During the elimination rounds the loser of each duel selects the aircraft for the next duel. From the quarterfinals forward the player who is behind in the series chooses the next duel aircraft. If the series becomes tied at any point then the loser of the last duel chooses.
- All duels will take place in the DA canyon area.
- All duelists will fly in F1 view mode (in-cockpit).
- All duels will be player’s choice of fuel load out, gun package and convergence. Firing off ammo prior to engagement is allowed.
- All merges will be guns cold (no firing until you have passed your opponent's 3/9 line).
- All merges will be co-alt at 7.5K until within icon range at which point a merge break can begin. Players should expeditiously climb to merge altitude.
- Anything goes after the initial merge.
- Once one player has been shot down and the other receives a kill message the duel ends. There is no need to land.
· Double Elimination
- The random selection process used in setting up the bracket will also be used to determine player placement in the losers bracket in each round.
- In the semi-final round a player that has not yet lost a series may lose. In that case the contestants shall immediately fight the contingency round with the winner of the contingency round advancing.
- In the final round two players that have not yet lost a series may meet. In that case the contestants shall immediately fight the final round and contingency round 1. If each of these players wins a round they shall fight contingency round 2 for the championship. In this case either player may choose to delay contingency round 2 for up to one week.
- If players are required to fly a contingency round the loser of the last round gets plane selection to start the contingency round.
· Posting Results
- The losing player will post in this thread after the duel series in the following format:

… and so on in later rounds.
- The loser posting verifies that the results are uncontested. If the loser hasn't posted by the deadline then the winner may post the results but they will be deemed contested (see contests and disputes).
- This information must be posted by no later than 6:00 PM CST/CDT (as appropriate) Sunday following the posting of the updated bracket.
· Special Circumstances Affecting the Outcome of a Duel
- In the case of a draw (both run out of fuel for instance) that duel will be re-fought using the same aircraft.
- In the case of a collision:
o If only one player collides (only one gets the collision message) the duel continues.
o If both players collide (both get the collision message) the duel immediately ends and will be re-started in the same planes.
- Ditching or bailing constitutes forfeiture of the duel.
- The intent is for players to remain in close proximity to one another (2-3K max). If at any time the players lose icon range on one another the duel ends immediately and will be re-started using the same planes.
- If an uninvited third party interrupts the duel the duel is immediately ended and will be re-started using the same plane. The dueling participants may move to any other mutually agreed upon set of fields in the DA in this instance.
- If a player experiences technical and/or equipment issues the duel will continue. After the duel that player will be allowed fifteen minutes to correct such issues and re-log to complete any remaining duels in the series. If he/she does not or is unable to re-log within 15 minutes he/she will lose any remaining duels by default.
- If a player disco’s the duel will be re-fought in the same planes as soon as the discoing player re-logs. If he does not or is unable to re-log within 15 minutes he will lose the series by default. A second disco by the same player in a series will result in forfeiture of the remaining duels in that series.
· Forfeitures
- If a player does not show within 15 minutes of the arranged time they forfeit the series.
- If a duel cannot be arranged between two players each player will have a chance to post the circumstances in the Bracket and Results thread prior to the posting deadline. If only one player posts and it is clear that they are making an attempt to arrange their duel then that player will advance. If both players post and it is clear that the issue lies with only one player then the player not at fault will advance. If it is unclear which player is at fault, or if neither player posts then a random draw will determine which player advances. If practical, no player will be allowed to advance more than one round via forfeit.
· Filming
- Filming is encouraged in case a dispute arises.
- From the quarterfinal round forward results must be verifiable therefore films to substantiate wins must be posted by the winning player for all duels from that round forward. This means only films of the wins must be posted but it’s preferred that all films be posted. Failure of the winning player to post substantiating films in these rounds will result in a disputed win (see contests and disputes).
- Films may be posted in any round if both participants agree.
· Contests and Disputes
- Each player has the opportunity to dispute results for potential rules violations. If a player suspects a rules violation they can state their case in the results thread or contact me via PM. Disputes must be entered by the regular deadlines. The player must include a description of what they believe the rules violation to be and submit films if available. I reserve the right to determine an appropriate course of action which could include but will not be not limited to overturning posted results, a rematch, a random draw or the expulsion of one or both players from the tournament. My determination will be final. For the advancing player and their opponent the normal 6:00 PM Sunday deadline will still apply. Because this could delay both the winner's and his/her next opponent's ability to arrange their next duel it is in the best interest of everyone that the players reach an agreeable conclusion to their duels on their own.
· Rules Violations
- Violations of the official tournament rules as stated could constitute grounds for expulsion from the tournament.

With much regret I will have to oull out. I am not going to be able to play at all for a month. This will be the first bracket I have not taken part in and I am sad about this but nothing can be done.

The LOSER of each round MUST post the results in the format listed in the rules for several reasons:
- I want to verify that the first round was fought in the assigned plane
- I want the loser to post as a means of verifying that the results are uncontested
- I skim the thread for those posts meeting the format as I update the bracket
Finally, you're best off to post here at least once as you arrange your duels because if you don't I have no way of knowing who put in an honest effort to get their duels arranged. Not posting here at least once may allow your opponent to advance if they did post or may result in a random draw if neither of you posts. All I have to go by is what's posted in this thread (or PM'd to me but I'd rather sift through the thread than be overwhelmed by PM's).

Did my 1st round yesterday. Out of the 2 years I been flying AH, this is bye far the most intense flying/fighting I have done. Coming around on a shot on your opponent is like having buck fever (a deer hunting thing). Can you say "high anxiety". lol. Thanks to BaldEagl for putting this tourament together. Guess we should have dueled last night :bhead. A storm blew through North Texas late last night. I didn't think it was that bad but they cut my power about 30 minutes ago. If power is restored in the next 20 minutes Ill be in the DA. Otherwise, I'll have to forfeit to SF.

That might have been one of the smoothest first weeks in memory. Only two duels remained unfought. They were:

Contrary to an earlier post I'll give both these matches until 9:00 PM Tuesday night to be completed. I forgot that the losers might be matched in the lower (losers) bracket.
Losers from the first round have been randomly placed onto their side of the lower (losers) bracket. With two open fights remaining from the first round and wanting to give away as little as possible I've hidden the names and opening planes (or byes... there are a lot of them) for those who weren't matched in the lower bracket. I'll update the bracket Tuesday night after the last of the first round duels are resolved. Those who are matched can go ahead and get going.
We'll see our first eliminations this week. For those who lost in the first round (including me) it's time to bring your A game. Someone from this portion of the bracket's going to make the quarterfinal. Losers in the upper bracket will drop into the second round losers bracket next week.

Mossie - Simon - outplayed in the e stakes - trying to rope him and he filled me full of cannon - couldn't wingover fast enough to get guns on in time
Mossie - F77 - change of plan by me and it paid off.
F4U-1A - Simon - utmost respect, a) how he flies those things, b) how he sees out of them! c) he chose the 1A to give me a chance! Outplayed, out e'd, shot down in a clean kill.

round 2 - A6M3 akELFY. i tried to counter his technique by staying high, but it didn't work out. again he latched on to me and shot me down in short order.
round 3 - FM-2 Wildcat1 finally i mimicked him, and got off a lucky snapshot which oiled him, and eventually caused him to stall and crash. very fun fight.
round 4 - FM-2 akELFY another really fun fight, but elfy bested me on a crossing shot which took out my wing.

Rather than enforcing those decisions I'd rather see the matches fought.
BTW, I really hate having to dredge through the entire thread to see who's making an effort to get fights in. This took me over an hour not to mention I'll have to do it again to update and repost the bracket on Tuesday.
I'm pretty sure I'll change the rules for any future tournaments to duels unfought by the deadline will automatically result in a random draw to get rid of this nightmare.
Our first eliminations occured this week. I hope that regardless of that those who were eliminated had fun. In the end it will happen to all but one of us. I hope to see you all back another time.
Our second group of main bracket losers also dropped into the lower brackets this week where there's no more margin for error.
So with a lot of open matches I'll post what I can and update again on Tuesday night with the final bracket for the week.

FM2. F77. shortly into the fight i hit the wall. bummer.
A6m3 boxkite. great fight. i took one of f77's elevators early on. He did a great job flying with out it. but could not turn with me.

Salute Boxkite! You do yourself an injustice with the FM2 commentry.
I flopped out at the top end of a turn, thought "oh dear... where's he gone", picked him up again, and got turning again, looked ahead and gave myself kittens when I saw the canyon wall, yanked it round losing sight of Boxkite again, only to hear a bang. Had it been clean air, Boxkite definately had the edge on me. It was just luck that Boxkite went in first! Again with the P39 it was more like russian roulette with the canyon wall!
I wondered what I had lost to make the A6 fly like a pig!

Round 1 - You start at 12K and I'll be at 7.5K and I'll dive, you dive and we'll go 714 kts and pull out with room to spare...then we'll merge.
Round 2 - Normal HO merge
Round 3 - I'll start at 12K and you start at 7.5K only this time the winner is the guy who can hold Mach 1.01 the longest before pulling up (with room to spare)

There were two voluntary forfeits this week that have been accounted for and one more that hasn't. Sc0tch and Dolby both forfeit and have been removed from the bracket so mir and Saito advance.
There were three involuntary forfeits this week. They were Ace8, SF and Intrepid. Ace8 never posted after JETSOM won his prior weeks match and SF and Intrepid didn't post at all. I have no evidence that any of these made any effort of arranging their duels and won't intentionally send an inactive player into the next round. Their opponents, JETSOM, Biggamer and TC advance.
Two other matches included both players who tried to arrange duels and they will be given an extension until 9:00 PM CST Tuesday to get thir matches in. They are:

Sea Hurri MkI
JOACH1M
Skyrock offered a forfeit so if this doesn't happen JOACH1M will advance.
Also with Sc0tch's forfeit the loser of this match will have a bye in the lower bracket this week and if it doesn't happen it will give the loser of the mir/JOACH1M duel an automatic bye into the quarterfinals which I'd rather not see.

Sunka and Changeup have both had forfeits already so this will go to a random draw
As always the extension doesn't move the normal Sunday deadline for the next round matches.
After five rounds of matches (including this week) four players are going to qualify for the quarterfinals. They'll get a bye next week as the other four quarterfinalists qualify.

Because I have no evidence of you trying to arrange a duel. You didn't post here trying to arrange your duel and you didn't copy me on any PM's so I can only assume there was no effort being made on your part. This shouldn't come as a surprise. I posted early on that it would be in everyone's best interest to post here prior to the weekend attempting to arrange their duels and each week I've posted about people posting or not as I've made decisions to keep the tournament moving along. It's also been this way in every tournament.
On the other hand Ink did post here trying to arrange your duels. I have clear evidence he made an effort. He advances and the player I'm not sure is even playing anymore doesn't.
Since Ink said you were going to do it I'll give you until tomorrow night to get it in but at this point it's up to Ink if he can or even wants to.

I looked for you before "friday night FSO", but did not see you online, however it was a little bit after 10 PM....... like I told ya during KOTH it was iffy if I could get back in time and I couldn't guarantee that I could be there , I was just trying to find a way to get our dueling match in.....

It's too bad as I'm sure both of these series would have been hard fought and could have gone either way.
Our top four players qualified for the quarterfinals this week. Congratulations to RedBull and JOACH1M for going undefeated and to JETSOM, FLS and mir (who also makes the quarterfinals this week due to the forfeits by both Sc0tch and Skyrock last week) for making it with a single loss. All of you get a bye week this week while the remaining six duel it out for the last three quarterfinal slots.
With only three match-up's this week hopefully we'll get them done by the 6:00 PM Sunday deadline.

Based on communications here and via PM I should be advancing akELFY but since this is for a quarterfinal position I'm giving it until Monday night (which sounded like it would work out for both players).
The rest of the quarterfinals are set. Congrats to Biggamer and TC for making it to the playoffs along with last weeks advancers.
Duel series now go to best of seven. The loser needs to post results as per normal. The winner must post film for each of their wins.
Be familiar with the contingency round in the upper bracket. The effect is that for Jetsom or FLS to advance they'll have to win two best of seven rounds back to back (i.e. double eliminating a lossless player).
I also removed the semifinal contingency round from the lower bracket as it won't be needed.
Here's the bracket. I'll post the final match-up tomorrow night and add it to the bracket next week.

Redbull forfeit so JETSOM will advance to the semifinal on that side of the bracket.
Sonic23 has not yet posted films of his wins. If he can't do so then he and Biggamer will have to rematch by Tuesday night.
JOAC1M advances on the other side.
mir and TC have had trouble meeting up so they will be given an extension until Tuesday night. If the duels don't happen by then mir has offered a forfeit and TC will advance.

TC, it was an absolute blast last night. I should probably edit the sound out of my 38 film so my cursing isn't there, as I might've said a few words on vox when I spun it....lol Even watching it, it's so herky-jerky and I was smooth on the stick. I'm glad my wife wasn't home at the time. :lol
The second 109 fight was fantastic! Actually, all of them were, with the exception of the quick death in the F4U-1. :)

I was actually dreading checking this thread tonight thinking films wouldn't be posted and I'd have to delay things again or be forced into an unpleasant decision. I'm relieved to see my fears were unfounded. I haven't gotten to see the quarterfinal films yet but hope to get to them this weekend.
One more round to go to the finals.
With RedBull's forfeit TC is the only one with the unpleasant task of having to beat JOACH1M in two consecutive best of sevens to advance this week. No easy task I'm sure but knowing TC he'll be ready to give it his best. I rearranged the potential contingency rounds a little bit on the bracket to better reflect how they might be played out and to better record them for posterity if needed.

I might be up to doing it right after KOTH tomorrow, all depends on how much pain I am in, and how long KOTH takes..... same goes for after FSO tomorrow night, as well.......

After a long and winding road here we are at the last week of the Tenth edition of the One-on-One Dueling Bracket Tournament.
It's too bad we had all that BBs downtime thrown into the midst of this. It took away a some momentum and I was really looking forward to seeing players on both sides of the bracket trying to defeat Redbull and JOACH1M in successive best of sevens.
As it is that difficult task now falls to Sonic23 for one last attempt to knock off JOACH1M. Either way the winner of this will have proved their skill in one-on-one dueling.

Now that that's out of the way I'm looking for feedback from participants and non-participants (assuming anyone is still keeping up with this thread).
Was the double elimination format a plus or a minus? Set aside the fact that several weeks of BBs downtime and several more weeks waiting for the final outcome lost a full month or more.
Were the longer duel seires good or too much?
Thanks for your opinions. They will help to shape future tournaments.
