Happy Independence Day USA!
If you never heard of the Culper Spy Ring it’s something I came across in AMC’s show called Turn.
I was a History and Business major in college with my History concentration in the American Military Experience. Each student in that concentration was able to be even more specific and in Capstone classes focus on one or two wars. For me that was the Civil War & Vietnam. Every student had several classes that overlapped with a lot of WWII emphasis of course, so it was encouraged to write and research about the other major wars.
Anyhow, of course we had a fair amount required on the Revolutionary War, but I don’t recall anything ever mentioned or assigned to study about the town of Setauket and the importance of the Culper Spy Ring.
Turn is an excellently done show. There of course has to be some liberties taken by the writers as not enough is historically documented. However, most things seem quite plausible.
I thought AMC made a poor choice to put it up against their hit show Hell on Wheels at the time and thus IMO viewership suffered.
Give Turn a chance, it starts off slow...

Yes, they were indeed.
About 8 or so years ago they concluded. Hell on Wheels is about the railroad building race to reach the Pacific Ocean.
