Title: CT Regulars, Who Are You?
Post by: eskimo2 on November 01, 2002, 05:03:24 PM
If you play in the CT on a somewhat regular basis, please post in this thread about yourself.  Since the CT has almost become its own sub-community, I thought it would be good for us to get to know more about each other.
The Following format I stole from a thread that I started in the General Discussion Forum almost 3 years ago.  It worked well so I thought that I would just stick with it:
Often, whenever someone blows me out of the sky I wonder;
"Who was that guy? How old is he?, How long has he been flying in sims?"

So I thought that it would be really cool if we could all find out about each other on one post. Please respond to as many of the following questions as you wish. Be as brief or thorough as you like;
 (Feel free to add pics)

Your Aces High call sign? It's significance?
Your Aces High squad?
Your name?
Your age?
Your Email?
Where do you live?
Where else have you lived?
What do you do for a living?
What is your marital/family status?
What schools have you attended?
What degrees do you have?
What are your hobbies?
What other flight sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim?
Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
Other interesting things about yourself.

I was born and raised in Alaska and admire Alaskan Natives.

Your Aces High squad?
The Buccaneers.

Your name?
David D. Hall

Your age?
37

Your Email?
wwilsterman@neo.rr.com

Where do you live?
Tallmadge Ohio.  (Near Akron)

Where else have you lived?
Colorado Springs CO, Woodland Park CO, Honolulu HI, Anchorage AK, Wasilla AK, Houston AK, Fairbanks AK, Homer/Anchor Point AK, Juneau AK, Cordova AK (Birthplace)

What do you do for a living?
I am a computer teacher at a Catholic K-8, 500 student, school in Cuyahoga Falls (the town next door to Tallmadge).  I used to teach first grade in Colorado, and pretty much stumbled into this job a few months ago.

What is your marital/family status?
Blissfully married for 6 years. My wife and I have 2 Daughters. The oldest is three and named Svea (pronounced Svay-Ah, long a - short u sounds). She’s the funniest person I’ve ever met.  Brigitta is 10 months old and just about to start walking.  Being a dad is absolutely the coolest thing ever!

What schools have you attended? What degrees do you have?
Bachelor of Arts/Photography from the University of Anchorage AK, 1990. Associate of Science/Fire Science from the University of Hawaii (HCC) 1995. I am now about 90% finished with my Masters in Education from Regis University in Denver CO.

What are your hobbies?
AH junkie...Dang...I used to have a bunch of hobbies, but I have forgotten all about them ever since I started flying on-line!

What other flight sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim?
Warbirds, I started in spring of 97... I think? eskimo of the Buccaneers.

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII? My father-in-law flew stateside in WWII. He trained gunners for the Army Air Corps. He has time in the; AT-6, P-39, P-63, RP-63, AT-11, B-25, and B-17. The RP-63 was a stripped, armor plated P-63 that was used as a manned flying target. His job was to mock attack B-17's and receive friendly-fire! The bullets were 30 cal. powdered lead/bakelite plastic, and would disintegrate on contact with the hardened aluminum armor plating on the RP-63.

I was involved with a pretty amazing living history group in Colorado Springs called "Fantasy Flight". The two leaders of this group owned a C-45/AT-11 and two AT-6's. The members of Fantasy Flight maintain these old Warbirds and fly them to airshows throughout Colorado and other parts of the USA. Each of the 30+ members own at least one authentic WWII Army Air Force uniform that is worn to these airshows.

Other interesting things about yourself.
I own a Batmobile.

CurtissP-6EHawk & Andijg,

It looks like we have a fire-connection.
I was a firefighter in Alaska and earned a degree in fire science while I lived in hawaii.  I also served as a volunteer fire fighter when I lived in Woodland Park CO.

Alaska was the most exciting place to serve.  In the summer, we often would have a few fires a week.  In 96, my home town had a really nasty one.  40,000 acres burned and we lost 400 structures.

I have just started building mine. I started building the lower wings a few weeks ago. The wing ribs are laser cut with capstrips glued on top. I hope to have them in a progresive looking state for pics in a week or so. I have the tubing now for the fuselage and hope to start on it in a month. A friend of mine is ready to cover his "Baby Ace" actuall I think his is the "Pober" but anyway, I am gonna get his table for welding up my fuselage.

The thing I love about the project is that all I have to do to install a radial engine is extend the landing gear seven inches and build up a new motor mount!!

Here is a pic of me at "my office" (http://bellsouthpwp.net/a/u/austi262/Web%20Pages/bryanc180.htm) :D Been trying to figuer out how to mount six .50 cal guns on it!!!!

Callsign is Splash1.  Heard it in a movie or two ... fighter pilot said it when he downed the first bandit in a dogfight over water.  Since I'm rarely able to down more than one target per sortie, it seems to fit.

I'm not in a squad.
My name in the real world is Dennis Faught.  I'm 44. I live in Columbia, Missouri. I lived down the road in Jefferson City for about 20 years, until recently. Macon, Kirksville, Mexico (Mo.) before that.  Lifelong Missouri resident.

My j.o.b. is copy/wire editor at a daily newspaper. I'm divorced; no kids. I attended Northeast Missouri State University (now Truman State). Was a mass-com major, but dropped out to go to work full-time in radio.  So, I was a kid and I was dumb.

My primary hobby for the past 11 years or so has been Civil War re-enacting. (hey, Jester :D  ) Confederate infantry, Federal infantry, Missouri State Guard.  But I'm getting too old to do it "right," so I've been turning to flight sims for about the past 1 1/2 years.
AH is my first online flight sim ... I started playing about 11 months ago. Before that I played EAW for a couple of months.  I've also started playing IL-2 offline a bit; but only rarely go online -- usually on ubi's dedicated full-real server.  Callsign there is TracerMagnet.  It's self-explanatory.

My history era of choice is the American Civil War. Specifically the Western and Trans-Mississippi departments and Cockrell's Missouri Brigade. My only direct connection to WWII was a step-grandfather who was a groundpounder in Italy. Oh yeah, and I've visited the D-Day Museum in New Orleans.

call sign- Slash27.  I took Slash for my favorite band Guns n Roses. The 27 is just my number from my hockey team because Slash was taken.

Squad- VF-27 Hellcats. I really enjoy flying with these guys. Joining them and flying in the CT has helped me get the most out of AH.

Name: Chad Johnston   Age 29  Fireslash27@aol.com

Live-  I reside in Tioga,Texas.  pop:700. The birth place of Gene Autry i might add:D

Have lived in Pilot Point,TX. (a whole 5 miles away)

Damn Lowe, take a look at that. Don't it make you all warm and fuzzy all over seeing all the VF-27 & 27th Sentai guys we lured into the CT. LOL!

And to think the squad we thought would never go anywhere has boomed into what it is now.

Now we got the 325th FG CHECKERTAILS going. We have certainly come along way. Can't wait to see what the future holds. (Though I will admitt to missing flying the Hellcat. ;) )

FELLOW CT SQUADIES! HOORAH!

GOOD LUCK AND GOOD HUNTING! !

I dont really know,  but i can find out Concho. I went to high school in Aubrey so I wouldnt know much about state championships:D.
Although Pilot Point does have G.A. Moore back this year from Celina. With Celina he won 4 of the last 5 state titles in Class 2A and won the state title back in '80 and '81 with Pilot Point. 1 more win and he'll have the record for most wins in Texas high school football.

Sonora   hah!           :D   Concho

My Aces High callsign is Pangea.  Pangea was a supercontinent formed in the late Paleozoic Period when all of the major continental land masses joined together.  Its significance - I just like the name.

My Aces High Squad - 27th Sentai

My name - Mike Hays

My age - 45

I live in St. Charles Illinois, about 40 miles west of Chicago on the eastern edge of the Great Corn Desert.

I have lived primarily in various west suburban Chicago locations, but also in Carbondale, Illinois; Lincoln, Nebraska; Merced, CA; and Keflavik, Iceland (while in the USAF).

I am a geologist.  I do environmental consulting for major oil corporations which have problems with their underground storage tanks leaking fuel into the subsurface.

I am happily divorced and have a son (18) and daughter (14).

I have attended Southern Illinois University, University of Illinois Chicago, University of Nebraska, and Northern Illinois University.

BS and MS in geology

My hobbies are AH and reading.  I used to fish alot, but not so much anymore.

I played AW for a couple of years.

I spent 4 years in the USAF as a jet engine mechanic.  Was stationed at Castle AFB, CA and Keflavik NAS, Iceland.  My father was a radioman/gunner on a TBF in WWII, but he never saw any combat.

Your Aces High call sign? AirScrew
It's significance? Well I wanted Trigger but it was taken  (nickname I've had forever it seems, has nothing to do with the horse, got it while I was in the Air Force.)  Any way picked AirScrew because that is what we called the pilots we worked with, airscrews and wingnuts.

Your Aces High squad? Rampaging Rooks of Retribution

I have setup people from Maine to Hawaii, Florida to Alaska,  even a few in Canada.  After doing this for two and a half years I can tell you that good customer service is a rare thing and the best I have seen is PacBell, Qwest, and SBC (Ameritech, SWBell, and SNET)

Grandfather was a tank mechanic in 3rd Army (Patton) He use to tell us stories (cleaned up of course) about some of the battles like Battle of the Bulge, said the mechanics hated Patton for trying to rush across Germany because he out ran the supplies and they had a hard time repairing tanks.

Title: CT Regulars, Who Are You?
Post by: Oldman731 on November 05, 2002, 12:06:44 PM
Your Aces High call sign? It's significance?
Oldman.  When I first logged onto Air Warrior, in October, 1996, I figured that I would probably be the oldest guy playing.  After all, computer sims are for kids, right?

Your Aces High squad?
None.  I tried a squad once, in AW, but found that I just couldn’t commit to being available for squad operations.

Your name?
John Weston

Your age?
Fifty.  (Half of a what[/b]?)

Your Email?
Varies.  jkw731@aol.com works most of the time.

Where do you live?
Lansdale, PA, thirty-two miles north of Philadelphia.  Green grass and trees, but a lengthy commute every day.

Where else have you lived?
Born in Dover-Foxcroft, Maine, and until recently had more hours there than any one other place.  Syracuse, New York for a couple of toddler years.  Columbus, Ohio for the Wonder Bread Years, and regret having ever moved away.  Allentown, PA for high school and as a base of ops through college and law school.  Delaware Valley ever since.

What do you do for a living?
Lawyer.  Isn’t everyone?

What is your marital/family status?
Married since April, 1979, and to the same woman, would you believe?  Sixteen year old daughter and twin thirteen year old boys (I have noticed that there are a lot of parents of twins flying AH.  Should suggest this as a study for a budding statistician’s doctoral thesis.)

What schools have you attended?
Penn State undergrad, 1970-74.  Ohio State law school, 1974-77.  Odd fact: I really hate watching football games.  In Columbus, in particular, they take the sport WAY too seriously.  The only riot I was ever involved in was over the 1975 OSU-Michigan football game - and that was complete with rubber bullets, tear gas, helicopters and a line of police chasing the hapless Oldman down 11th Avenue.

What degrees do you have?
B.A. in history, J.D. in, um, jurism or something.

What are your hobbies?
Why, back when I had time for hobbies, they included such things as shooting and hunting, sailing, hiking and similar manly pursuits.  Now that I’m working and raising a family, these have been reduced to reading military history on the toilet and snatching the odd half hour to play AH when/if the kids go to bed.

What other flight sims have you been involved in?
Microsoft Flight Simulator would have been the first, followed by the Lucas Arts trilogy (Battlehawks 1942, Battle of Britain, SWOTL).  MS Jet, Fighting Falcon, Dynamix’ first A10 game, and Fleet Defender were in there, somewhere, and convinced me I wasn’t terribly interested in jet aircraft.  Air Warrior pushed all those way out of sight, although I briefly toyed with EAW.  When AW died, I moved to AH.

Your call sign and squad in that sim?
Heh heh.  I have an irresistible urge to repeatedly prove that I am not too bright.  I picked the handle “Oldman” for Air Warrior, without stopping to consider that this would be truncated to its first five characters for my CPID.  Consequently I flew as “Oldma” for years, leading people to wonder if I was either an old lady or had some weird sexual identity problems.  The difficulty was compounded by the fact that there was, and still is, another “Oldman,” one who was smarter than me and knew that he should adopt the handle “Oldmn” so that it would come out right.  In practice there was no problem in AW, because he flew relaxed realism and I flew full realism.  Both of us have migrated to AH, and we find that he stays in the MA and I stay in the CT.  This should explain why so many newcomers to the CT are happy to see me - they think I’m the other guy.  I would like to point out to Hitech, if he ever reads these things, that this is an excellent reason to retain the CT in version 1.11.

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
Nope.

Other interesting things about yourself.
Nope.

- oldman

to aviation, apart the pilot licence, nothing,
to WW2, my father was 9 years old and lived in Naples, under the B17 bombs, he tasted what you (US citizens) and your parents have not tasted of the REAL war, like being without water, electricity and food, eating a soup of shoes (yes, shoes!!) sometime, stealing with young friends food for the family from the German military depots, witnessing the rape of the german soldiers on women in the streets, helping the population in the rebellion against the Germans, by bringing ammos and bombs, witnessing a young (16-17 yrs) German soldier be tied on his motorcycle while asking mercy, and burned alive, welcoming the Allieds when they later enter the city, witnessing allied soldiers raping women in the streets, still no food (grandfather a fascist officer, that's why no soup for you!!), so stealing food for family in allied military depot, and witnessing an Allied soldier shooting in the head a friend (remember, we are talking 9-11 year old children) "because it's a damn pasta-thief".

That's some of the memoryes he told me, btw, he does'nt want to tells the stories, seem the memoryes still hurts.

Your Aces High call sign?
Sakai

It's significance?
I flew in AW for years with only a mouse and the Zero was the only plane you could really knife fight in using that setup.  You could bomb quite effectively, but in fighters, it was the Zeke.  Basically, I was trying various log-in names but, the first 20 I tried were taken and in frustration I typed in “SaburoSakai” and it took, and with the mouse/Zeke thing happening, it was a natural.  I always was fascinated by WWII aerial combat and Sakai symbolizes much of what was best of that.

Your Aces High squad?
Hammerheads.  These guys have been there for me for years and they mostly keep their hands to themselves when we have naked squad nights.

Your name?
Harry Roark James (I use whole my name as half the people I know call me Roark, other half Harry)

Your age?
43

Your Email?

Where do you live?

Where else have you lived?
Born in Boise, Idaho, lived short while in Grand Junction, Colorado; all my school years were in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Lived also in Arizona (Patagonia), Arkansas (briefly in Little Rock).

What do you do for a living?
Environmental consulting work on the other side of Oldman.

What is your marital/family status?
2nd Marriage.  Two kids by first, Boy 10 and Daughter 8.

What schools have you attended?
University of Utah

What degrees do you have?
BA in English

What are your hobbies?
Cooking, hunting, fishing, reading, creative writing, guitar, politics and film.

What other flight sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim?
Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
Air Warrior, same and same.  Had a hunting buddy who was a B-17 tail gunner, two step uncles were aviators:  one shot down, KIA mustang pilot over France, one survived navy fighter pilot, Pacific assignment.

Other interesting things about yourself.
On the first date? No way, you’re going to have to buy me dinner first, and maybe ice cream after.

P6EHawk- I am building an 80% replica of the 1933 AAF Fighter built by Curtiss called the P-6E Hawk. Many pics on website.

Greetings Gents,

I'm not a CT regular, and I'm not even sure why I started reading this thread, but I'm glad I did.  When I came across P6EHawk's post, I took a look at the curtisshawkp6e.com site and thought that they looked very familiar.  Let me explain.

Last Thanksgiving, I took my mother-in-law to visit her brother's grave in Arlington Cemetery.  He was an Army Air Force cadet who died in a crash during a training mission in April 1943.

After we got back from the cemetery, my mother-in-law went down to the basement and dug up a bunch of old yellowed watercolor paintings that her brother had done when he was in his late teens.  He was 20 when he died.  Some of the paintings are dated in the late 1930s, and some are signed as "Allen Reasoner, U.S.A.A.F", indicating that he must have been painting even after he enlisted.

I tried to take pictures of a few of the paintings using my digital camera, but the quality isn't that great.  I was able to identify some of the aircraft, but a few escaped me.  Which brings me back to the P-6E.  I believe that the image entitled 'Unknown3' could be a Curtiss Hawk.  Please take a look and let me know what you think.

Thanks,

AKKarma

Akkarma That airplane cannot be posatively IDed but is not the Hawk, nor the Navy GosHawk. The best I can do is that the Navy ordered two WACO UBF-2s which one was aboard the USS Macon. .(http://www.aero-web.org/database/aircraft/showimage.php?id=5682)

or

The WACO WHD that was ordered as a fighter for the Cuban Airforce.(http://www.aerofiles.com/waco-whd.jpg)

Based on the painters other paintings, he seemed to have a bit of an imagination. Very nice paintings indeed!!!!!

If I run across something better I will post it

Hey Bizket! Fellow JG 51'er! HARRADO!

JG 51 just had a reunion not long ago in Enid, OK. We managed to get 13 of the old gang together for a 4 day drinking and flying marathon. Had all kinds of German liquor and food served to us. Was a real blast!
VonDoom & Stanle took us to the nightclub where they play and did a set of great rock and roll songs AND a song he wrote for us - "THE JG-51 BLUES"! Was great! Going to try and do it again in two years and get some of the guys from Japan & Australia over.

BTY: The term for you Grandfathers job dring the landing craft is: COXSIN.

Your Aces High call sign - cajun2, was cajun but lost my password

It's significance - In Age Of Empires 2 The Conquerors I came up with "Cajun_Conqueror" Since I'm a cajun and the conqueror was kinda a play on AOEConquerorsExpansion. I kept the name in Empire Earth and all the other games I play so ppl can recognize me, but aces high only let u have a name up to so many charachters (I think 8?) anyway so I changed it to just "cajun"

What are your hobbies - Programming, Modeling, Animating, Music, History of all periods especially anceint - mideveil, Reading, geography, gaming & computer stuff in general :)

What other flight sims have you been involved in - none

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII - Well my grandfather was in the army, he was a guard on the trains that transported prisoners to camps or wherever.
Going a little further back my I forget how many greats grandfather was in the civil war, he snuck in the confederate army at like 15-16! And I think became a artillery sargent and served with the cavalry.  I think he may have eventuelly captured, but fortunatly survived the war or I wouldnt be here.. wow scary thought! :)
Other interesting things about yourself - Umm... Nothing that I can think of..

Hi CTers, I'm not a regular in CT, but have enjoyed the few times I've been in. I think it will suit me more than the MA, just would like to see more people in CT.

My AH call sign is Dadman, my son branded me with the nickname years ago.

I'm not a member of any squad.

My name is Donnie Shealy.

I am 40.

My e-mail adress is gofastrlt@aol.com.

I live in Gilbert SC.

I've lived in several other towns in SC. I also lived in Baltimore(Overleigh) MD for 10 years.

I am an A&P Mechanic working as a QA Inspector for a large aviation service company specializing in corporate sized AC.

I am married with three children, 20, 17, & 11.

I graduated from Lexington(SC) High in 1980, Air Force Jet Engine school and several others during my TOD from 80 to 84. I recieved my A&P from Rice Aviation in Baltimore MD in 1992. I've been through Cessna, Hawker, I.A.I. Astra and Canadair Challenger factory training since 1996 when I came to general aviation from aerospace.

I don't have any degrees, but I do have a "but-load" of certificates that mean little or nothing out side of the school yard.

My hobbies used to be softball, golf, and remote controlled planes, then in 1997 I discovered stock car racing. Now my hobbies are racing, racing, and racing. AH is a ton -o- fun, but it's the off season.

I did download one other online flight sim, but AH won out by far.

My grandmothers three brothers all served in WWII in the Army. The youngest made over 30 jumps in ETO and PTO. My dad was in the AF between Korea and Viet Nam as a staff photog for SAC, and I was in the AF as a jet engine mech on T37s and T38s stationed at Columbus AFB, MS. I've been connected with aviation since 1980.

I once rolled my car 360 degrees and still won the race. I was the first to replace the wing of a Cessna 441 in the field and I can tie a cherry stem with my tounge.

Hey, gofastrlt!

441 wing change?  cool.

I am currently doing a king air 200.  We have it tore down almost completely, wing center section down to belly skin, support frames and Fwd lower sparcap.  Kind of an interesting project.

got new sparcaps located and shot, inbd lower wing skins partially shot, spar webs shot in, and inbd leading edges located (piece by piece).

The fuselage is still on the trailer, and outbd wings in work too.  It's coming along nicely, but I dont think we will get it done by christmas :D

I have worked on, king air, 1900's (A, B, C & D models) Saab 340's, EMB 120's, Fokker F27 & F28's, DASH 7 & 8's, DC 9's, 747's etc. etc.
Title: Hi BlkKnt
Post by: gofastrlt on December 10, 2002, 06:21:36 PM
Yeah that was pretty cool. Bad case of hangar rash, got away from the mechanic while run-up and whacked the hangar. Myself and another mech trucked the salvaged LH wing panel from CAE to Knoxville and did it in the customer's hangar. If any one ever tells you that all all the holes are the same on all the planes, don't believe it! Three and a half weeks later we flew  it to CAE.

That 200 sounds like quite an undertaking. Yeah, it does'nt sound like you'll be done by Christmas. I don't see too many KAs any more. When I worked for the Cessna Dealer in Columbia I ran the pt-6 crew, we had a couple regular B200s and C90s. Most all the planes I see now are 731 powered(Garrett AGS). Are you close to Little Rock? I went to Hawker 1000 school with some guys from Ratheon back in 2000. They were a wild bunch!

See Ya'll on my six.

"Just get in, strap down tight, go fast and turn left. Keep doin that until the guy in that little tower waves the flag with black and white checkers."

I'm actually about 2 1/2 - 3 hours from Little rock, but I did work at Raytheon there, this past summer, until layoff hit.   Was a very good place, except for the commute.  Hawker is kinda an odd plane though, but very well built.

I work at a very small fairly new little company out of Mena, kind of an offshoot from Reebaire which moved to Hot Springs.  I was Structures lead for them, but they decided since I didn't want to move, they didn't want to employ me anymore.  I dont miss them a bit.

Our KA 200 here, had a bit of a hard landing

Yeah I heard all about the rollback...sometimes, life sucks. glad to see he got out though. I hear for the most part he was a good kid.

I think his sister went there as well.

We werent friends, and we only talked once, at most, we were there for business.

My team won two State A-1 superbowls, and his won the next three or 4 when they moved up in class to ours (Once I graduated our team went tits-up, of course!) His team fed on all the table scraps after we tore -ass through the division.

In track we ran different events (hurdles / 100) so we never really faced up. I ran leadoff  and he was anchor on our relay teams. He was a fast...but not faster than me on his best day! LOL

Wow, interesting!

Hello bros from CT! I read those interesting careers and stories of yours, and I noticed very soon: This is Crew what I like! I decided that after that great FinRus week (with You all!) I fly mostly in CT arenas. MA is catching fire in me no more. This is my story:

Your Aces High call sign? It's significance?
Kanttori. It's Finnish and means precentor. My bands vocalist Pete called me with that name years ago in one big festival kick. Now all my friends use that nickname.

Your Aces High squad?
Leijonat Squad, but we Finns Squads (Lentolaivue 34 and Vaasan Waakalentajat) fly almost together in the AH arenas. This is my squads sites: http://www.savanne.org/ah/ There you can find FinRus map information, too (updating after one week).

Your name?
Ismo Homanen

Your age?
In next January 45... huh...

Your Email?
ismo@kesalesket.net

Where do you live?
Joensuu, Finland. It is A65 in FinRus map, my home is there near field. The other house is Bizman's, he's my neighbour, squad mate and good friend!:D

Where else have you lived?
Lappeenranta (A72), Helsinki (A70) and Adolzfurt, Germany (not visible in FinRus map, ;) ). My grand father and grand mother are from Karelia, east of Joensuu. Most of Karelia's area is nowadays owned by Russians, because we lost it after Continuation War. Now I can take it back and move to Repola village near A54!:D

What do you do for a living?
My education is teacher, but actually I have been songwriter, musician and free lance music teacher (keyboards, electric bass, guitar and drums) many years. I also educate sometimes music teachers and music amateurs with music softwares and school/home studio's setups. But most preferably I play keyboards in my rock/show band "Kesalesket": http://www.kesalesket.net . We are just releasing a new CD, it's great! Find my photo from there: The ugliest man!

I have worked earlier in my own little music studio and band school in Helsinki. I was teacher 10 years in basic school (Helsinki), but then i noticed that music is my life career! Career...?

What is your marital/family status?
I am not married, but I live together with my "wife" Mare. I have 18 year old son Joonatan, who is "Lukkar" in AH. I think he's better than me with 109 G2... And I don't like it!:D

What schools have you attended?
Joensuu University

What degrees do you have?
I am Master of Education and Music. But I still play rock and roots music...

What are your hobbies?
Music is my work and hobby (I'm lucky man...), but my real hobby is nowadays mostly Aces High, AH terrain building with TE and reading history books: facts or fiction. After finding AH I have read and studied mostly all from WWII airplanes, flying schools, Finnish and Russian fighter pilots and bomber crews, airbases, maps, etc. Mare don't always understand this and she looks sometimes like

What other flight sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim?
I have flown B.O.B and S.W.O.T.L. (they were great games over ten years ago!) and  after long pause I find one year ago Aces High. That's all, I'm very rookie online player! But wait a couple of years...

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
Plane modelling and reading all WWII aerial war books when I was younger.

Other interesting things about yourself.
I have composed with my good friend Samu (Kesalesket guitar player) a BIG rock musical "Kolme avainta" (Three Keys"). It was performed 30 times in Helsinki area in 1999. I was writing in team the whole "New Kalevala" story and wrote all texts to songs and designed the stage, too. There is link to our musical sites: http://www.kesalesket.net/kolmeavainta/

It was big job but it was the most blasting project in my whole life. Before and After!:D

Haist... WMaker...:D

Yes, that's really me, but sometimes the one photo don't tell whole story. And sometimes it tells too much!;)

As I said "Kesalesket" is a Finnish show band as you can see. This is Kanttori's lookout when he's on stage. My hairstyle is at home and normal life little bit different! :D

A male nurse experienced with REALLY big guns, I love it!

Too old to work in the fire service?  Naw!  I used to fight fires in Alaska with a guy who was even older, he also had had a quadruple bypass surgery...  Come to think of it, we used to worry like hell about him on the fire ground.  Also worked with a couple of grey haired old laidies, but they could hold their own pretty well.
I also do wood working.

Post by: Tuck on June 21, 2003, 11:04:40 PM
Wow...I feel like i'm filling out an application for a job at Burger King....

Your Aces High call sign? It's significance? Tuck.  My fraternity nickname that's stuck with me since college. (TKE for life.)

Your Aces High squad? Was the Lawndarts, but after many many years, it finally fizzled out, and I'm flying solo.

Your name? Scott

Your age? 33

Your Email? fscottthomas@earthlink.net or tuck0006@aol.com

Where do you live? Currently assigned to Virginia

Where else have you lived? Georgia, Pennsylvania, England, and originally from Chattanooga, Tennessee.

What do you do for a living? U.S. Deptartment of Justice

What is your marital/family status? Single, never married (I'm too ugly.)

What schools have you attended? U.T.

What degrees do you have? B.S. CRMJ/POLS

What are your hobbies? Aviation (Duh.)

What other flight sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim? AW.  Tuck

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII? Private pilot (Cherokee).  I've ALWAYS loved WWII aircraft, even as a little kiddie...It's what got me into aviation in the first place.

Other interesting things about yourself. I was born a poor black child in Alabama, but was adopted by Michael Jackson and look as I do today thanks to his patented skin treatment.  I escaped from the Jackson compound when he bought the remains of the Elephant Man, and joined a traveling circus.  I was employed as the servant for the midget troupe that traveled with the show for a number of years, but left because I got tired of all the "big people" jokes.  I was engaged to be married after leaving the circus and starting school at U.T., but she was mangled by a pack of rabid gophers before the wedding, and I've been the single old bastard that I am today since.

Huh, just saw this thread and hey- I'm late to jump on the boat, but better late than never, eh? 'sides.. Tuck was late too. :D

My nickname in game is Kesolei, though everyone shortens it to 'kes' or 'keso'. kes are my initials, and 'solei' is french for sun. Slap it together and- You get kesolei!

I'm a member of the JG3 in the CT, and I stay as far away from the MA as is possible. So I eh, don't have a squad there. ;)

My name is Kaylan (K-lan, as someone spelled it in a very old yearbook of mine..), and I'm a youngin'. Coming up on 20, and I live in Southwest Michigan, which is actually pretty nice despite being yankee-land. Its the only place I've ever lived, really, which is kinda sad.. but hey, I'm young and this is home. Within the next year or two I'll be transplanting myself down to either Kentucky or D/FW in Texas, we'll see what happens!

I'm a student right now, but I do a lot of volunteer work at a local equestrian center that lets under-priveledged and at-risk kids get up on a horses back for an hour and learn a bit about them.. which is always fun. I also play substitute art-teacher at my old high-school when Jill's going to be gone.

I am currently with everyone's favorite Macchi, unfortunately separated by distance while I finish up some stupid stuff up here, aaand hopefully we'll be married within the next few years. :) T'would be the plan anyway. Together we've got 3 youngin's, 2 boys and a girl.. I don't envy him dealing with them alone right now.

I'm an artist in my freetime and have sold (yay!) 1 oil painting in my career, and have had that same piece used to advertise a local art-hop as well as a local art show (which it was in, then traveled with a selected few around the state). I've also been asked to do the cover for a book, although not much has materialized out of that /yet/.. I do all types of stuff though, 2d, 3d and textile.. s'all good to me! :) My other love is Horses, both riding and just playing around in the pastures with them.

Aces is my first flight sim, after having listened to Macchi talk about it since practically the first conversation 2 years ago.. (okay, maybe not the *first* one, but it seemed like it!) he finally convinced me to give it a shot and I'm hooked. Now he has to shaaare. Hahaha! ;)

That's prolly enough about me, so, I'm done. :)

Ah, wait. Picture.

There, that'd be me. Yes, its cut off.. but you try taking a photo of yourself using the bathroom counter as the tripod! It aint easy, let me tell you..

Hey Slash, I can train any mammal you name, as long as I have it as soon as it is weaned. Some of the domesticated and trained animals I have had include 2 monkeys, a bobcat, two coyotes, a wolf hybrid, a rattlesnake named Pete, a mule deer buck that would follow me like a dog, and a few others considered illegal to own these days, SO I DONT!!!

It is much easier to get a young wild animal to imprint on you than an older one. Once they accept you as part of THEIR family, they can be trained like any other animal.

A word of warning though. I no longer am an advocate for keeping ANY wild animal as a pet. I rescue the ones that I can these days, then return them to the wild with as little human contact as possible.

There are other exotic species that people get tired of and get rid of... This is what really fries my skull.
The animal takes you as its family, its only family. When they are given away, it is like giving away your own child.
If you cannot make a lifelong commitment to your pets, you should not have any.:(

Your Aces High call sign? It's significance?
DamPhyno.

It's the name of the plane of Lt. Norbert Fisher of the 363rd FS/357th FG. He was wounded in action when his engine failed on takeoff from Leiston AB, England. He hit some railroad tracks and wound up in a Beet Field.
It's one of the coolest plane names from WWII that fits in the Aces High format. :)

The 325th also calls me Phydo, as in the mascot.

I've also been known elicit calls on the voice channel of "*Damm*, Phyno!" after a particularly good, or bad, shot. =)

Your Aces High squad?
Checkertails. I'm the System Administrator/webmaster.
http://www.jonathonbarton.com/325th
It's all database driven, with logins and secure areas, a group and personal record of Squad Nights, After Action Reports. The website tallies Current and Best Kill Streaks based on AARs, and a whole bunch of other things...

That said, if another squadron out there wanted something similar, that website system is also inherently modular, and I can hook you up with something similar in your Squadron Colors (that you can administer over the web) in an hour or three. I love being a web developer for a living...
=)

Your name?
Jonathon Barton
Born John Robert - started using Jonathon in about 1994...wasn't sure why...more on that later, though.

Your age?
35.

Your Email?
jon@jonathonbarton.com

Where do you live?
Northglenn, CO. (suburb of Denver)
Seems there are a lot of people with Colorado Connections here!

Where else have you lived?
Born in San Jose, CA, in 1968. Lived near the IBM plant off Cottle Road until my freshman year of HS. Then we moved to North Highlands, CA (Suburb of Sacramento). Graduated Highlands High in '86. Joined the Marines. Bad bad decision. School at 29 Stumps (2841 Ground Radio Repair), duty station 2nd Maint. Bn. Camp LeJeune. Got the boot from the USMC in 1990 finally. Thank god.
Back to Sacto. Thence to McMinnville, OR (waves at Brady), thence to Albany, OR around 1995... Got a better job offer in Florida, so I went. Hello Ft. Lauderdale! =) Moved around south florida a little bit the time I was there... (North Lauderdale, WPB, Coconut Creek). Had a psycho GF... Moved OUT OF STATE to get away. Lived in Mesa, AZ off Center Street for 11 months of 1997. Decided to go when it was 117-119 every day for a week! Thought about the Pacific Northwest. Wound up in Colorado Springs working for USA.net. in 1998. (Told you there was a CoSprings connection here!) Moved to Denver in 2000. Been here since. *whew*

What do you do for a living?
Staff IT System Administrator for the City and County of Denver at Denver International Airport.
My specialty is the Flight Information Display System.
(Yep,all those rolling monitors and blank LED signs you see throughout the airport are my responsibility. But look on the bright side - those monitors are SONY...and they've been on 24/7 for *10 years*. =)

If any of you weirdos fly though Denver (and think to remember this tidbit!), give me a buzz from any courtesy phone. Dial 4554 - I'd be glad to meetcha for lunch!

What is your marital/family status?

Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Personality Profile (http://www.mbti.com)
My current obsession is building a Dating and Relationships site that's based on Myers Briggs theory (among other thoughts I have on what makes a good match)

What other flight sims have you been involved in?
MSFS since the days of the 8086 on a 5" Green Screened Compaq "Luggable"...(um...herniate-able?)

I flew Fighter Ace back about 1999-2000. Was the CO of one of the incarnations of the 357th FG...We spent a lot of time escorting the 376th BG in '17's with our '51s
(http://www.jonathonbarton.com/357th : unfortunately, the 325th decided they liked the 357th background, and I haven't had time to make a new one for the 357th site yet... *grin*)

More MSFS... I belonged to Westwind VA back in the FS98 days, and I controlled using ProController for the first WWA flyin on SATCO...man, that was a long time ago.

Your call sign and squad in that sim?
_357FGCO

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
Not really... Avid historian. I like the idea of Historically based online squadrons. The 357th FG and now the 325th FG pick REAL pilots out of the represented squadrons... I like to think it lends a sense of honor and respect for the ones fought and bled and died for us...leaving us a legacy that is an awful lot more fun for us than it was for them.

Other interesting things about yourself.
I'm a Myers-Briggs INTP. That's a personality type that makes up less than 1% of the population. We're the Introverted Overly Logical Geek Architects of the world...Our mascots are The Cheshire Cat and Mr. Spock :)
If you're interested in a quick test to find your type, go here
http://haleonline.com/psychtest/
It's only 4 questions long, and just as accurate as any other test I've found.
You can google the result to find more information (especially you "Single and Looking Guys" - some basic knowledge can help you figure out who's a better match for you faster!)
...or email me (address above) and I'll point you at some resources... :)
(Nah, it's not something I'm passionate about - not at all!)

Also, there seem to be an awful lot of re-enactors attracted here...
I myself fell in with the Medieval and Renaissance Reenactor crowd in High School...and was the founder and Duke of the local chapter of the organization I belong to:
http://www.adrianempire.org

The final (I promise) weird fact about my weird person is a lifelong fascination with Tombstone Arizona, 1881. I could care less about the rest of the Wild West...Nothing in Civil War attracts me strongly, no buckskinners for me...etc...just that one place, for that one year.
I started using the name "Jonathon" instead of "John" in about 1994 or so...not for any real reason than I thought it "fit" my personality better.
Then in 2001, I found this...
http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?age=gsr&GScid=640404 Put in "Jonathon Barton" and see what comes up...

Fits me to an exact T.

You're an INTJ
INTJ
You are a strong individualist who seeks out new angles or novel ways of looking at things...enjoy coming to new understandings...insightful and mentally quick...but this quickness is not always obvious to others since you keep a lot to yourself...you're logical and analytical and ingenious..

You are very determined and trust your vision of the possibilities, regardless of what other people think...you are VERY independent...you are quiet yet firm....You're a damn perfectionist!!

Appear serious and reserved... might be labelled "brains" by others...you probably do/did well in school because you set internal goals for yourself.. being sociable just isn't worth your time and energy...unless there's a purpose for you...you don't like bureaucracy icky because you have to fit into other people's systems and not your own...

You might be frugal unless the money is spent on something you value (like education or a Storm Palace subscription)...you learn best when you can design your own approach...you have a thirst for knowledge..you probably enjoy lectures, libraries, courses and so on...

You are highly independent, and continue on with your plans even in the face of data that might suggest to others that it's no longer feasible... independent individualist....surprised when others don't see your visions the same clear way you do...a job well done doesn't need comment, it speaks for itself...you like decisive and intellectual people...

Man! You're one hell of a relentless organizer! ....tough-minded... once you make your mind up to do something, nothing can stop you.... even your leisure is planned, regualar and disciplined....you tend to avoid fads...you tend to choose partners in your love life who have an outward zest....you keep your affections private, and don't always share 'em with your partner..

You can be intense in your love...generous with gifts if it fits into the ideal the way love should be...when scorned, you retreat into your own world and may share none of your hurt feelings with anyone...you look for the "right" way to end a relationship...

Things to watch for: let go of impractical ideas....don't get so tied up in future thoughts that you ignore the present; you could be surprised... don't ignore the impact of your style on others..not everyone functions the way you do....you might criticize anyone who doesn't match up to how you think they should be...don't become obsessed with unimportant details... demanding...critical...

pretty much describes me, not shane.  :D

ISTP: "I See The Problem"

You're a realist who applies expediency and reasoning as you manage and adapt to situations...you are aware of what is going on in the environment and are able to respond quickly to the actual facts, making sure the odds are in your favor...

You're straight-forward, pragmatic, honest people who prefer action to conversation..you have a good understanding of the way things work, and are not pretentious...analytical...yo u tend to make logical and private decisions, stating things the way you see 'em...

don't like to be tied down and don't like working in a structure or schedule...you need to anticipate immediate practical needs in situations and to present a logical straightforward plan for meeting those needs...

Curious and observant... convinced only by hard, reliable facts...veritable storehouses of information...realist able to capitalize well on available resources... quiet and reserved...appear cool and aloof and are inclined toward shyness, except with good friends...

You operate on impulse....you learn best when you can observe first-hand in a one-on-one situation...prefer to learn alone...you thrive on excitement and action...probably like outdoors and sports....good trouble shooter...you lead through action...by setting an example...you'd prefer to managed loosely at work so bossman isn't breathing down your neck.

It's important to pursue your interests.. you will do what it takes to make time or money for your leisure-time pursuits (like pay for a Storm Palace subscription?) ....you like to have the latest and finest equipment for whatever your hobby is...you probably get turned on just reading the Trivial Pursuit cards just to learn the information....

Love? Responsive yet realistic, huh? You seek partners who'll give you your freedom (especially for hobbies and interests) or will at least participate in 'em with you....you're attentive to the little things that your partner will like..you like to surprise them with gifts and stuff... you'd rather show your feelings through actions than express them with words....

When scorned by a love, you don't share it with the world... you're usually not vindictive when the relationship is over...you don't give up easily on the relationship unless you're convinced by the evidence.

Things to be careful about: difficult to share your reactions...look for the shortcut or the easy way...slack off occassionally....develop a step- by-step plan...don't keep important things to yourself...you might take in so much information that you feel overwhelmed by it...you may be hesitant to make decisions....this makes you appear undirected...don't move on to new tasks before your other ones bear fruit...

wow

You're an ISTJ
ISTJ
You're systematic, thorough, painstaking, and hardworking...You get the job done and complete it on time...you are serious and sincere in whatever you do..you work well within a structure...follow the hierarchy...and are particularly strong and careful in keeping track of facts and details...

Cautious...generally seeking to maintain the status quo...you are at your best getting things to the right place at the right time....

Serious, responsible and sensible stalwarts of society...trustworthy and honor your commitments...your word is your solemn vow. Practical and realisitic, you have great powers of concentration....hard to distract once you have embarked what you believe is the best course of action.... ..

You like to apply past experience to present decisions...you can cite accurate evidence to support your views...you're down to earth and seek to do the right thing at the appropriate time...you find it hard to understand people who start an education but don't finish it...

You are diligent and persevering in your efforts...whether it be school, or work, or love...A half-finished job is not a job well done...you probably believe in "Say what you mean and mean what you say." Private by nature, you appear calm in moments of crisis...

You believe in work before pleasure...(gee, like posting before playing the online games on Storm Palace?)..while you don't SEEK leadership positions, you might find yourself in one...you build a reputation for reliable, stable and consistent performance...

You like to schedule....even your LEISURE time! It helps to you if it has a purpose, even if that purpose is sociability...to you, love means bigtime commitment, steadiness and consistency...you behave appropriately for what the situation demands (for example, romantic in the beginning, and so on)..

When you give your word and are ready to settle down, you follow-through... you expect your partners to act in a similar manner...you may stay in a poor relationship because of a sense of duty...you might have strong but unspoken reactions under that cool facade...

Logical and analytical...quick to point out flaws in other people...when you feel scorned in a relationship, you may not let your partner know it..when it's obvious that the relationship is really over, ending it is just the practical thing to do...

Things to look out for: you could immerse yourself in details...you could become rigid in your ways and be thought of as inflexible... don't forget to compliment people and be so concerned with getting the job done....you might overlook the long-range implications of your actions today...don't get stuck in a rut...recognize your emotions, and the values they represent... others might see you as insensitive...

Also, you're skeptical of new ideas you don't see immediate and practical applications for...you may impose judgments on others...expect others to be the way YOU'd be...become more tolerant of difference between people.

I'm prolly actually one of the most iNFP people you'll ever meet. I took the test over at http://www.advisorteam.com and happened in at a time when they were introducing a new test, and they did a special offer.. take the new test and give 'em some feedback and they'd unlock one of your others for you- so I got the whole report free. T'was kinda cool. :)

But, on their scales- I had the following results:

I:  7  to E: 3
N: 9  to S: 1
F:  8  to T: 2
P:  8  to J: 2

Anyone else think its kind of interesting to see the types that seem to be here? A lot of times, when sampling a group of people.. you'll get really seemily sporadic and random results. So far, we're all pretty similar. /I/ find that interesting, anyway. ;)

Arlo's an ENFP

What's there to say about Arlo? He's an initiator of change and is keenly in tune to possibilities... he's enthusiastic, and it's contagious...he's tireless in the pursuit of newfound interests... He can anticipate the needs of others, and offer them needed help and appreciation. He brings zest, livelihood, and fun to all aspects of life...

Arlo's agreeable, sociable, outgoing and likes to imagine himself in the future (or, in some cases .... in the past ;)).  He likes to keep his options open...he's imaginative...curious...he prefers to understand than judge..

Arlo sees endless possibilities. He hates to be boxed into anything -- like a career -- for life...so he hesitates and resists making decisions...always looking for new and novel...

Arlo likes a learning environment where the teacher takes a personal interest in him. His motto might be: "There's always a better way or a better answer.."... when he's committed to something, he's enthusiastic to the point of preaching to the whole world about it.

Arlo's style of organization is... well, personalized. Others don't really see it as organized, though, do they? HE knows what's where, and there's a "method to his madness," huh?

Arlo has a hard time separating work from leisure, since he has fun while he works. You're always on the lookout for new things... you like learning with others, so you'll invite 'em to join you at films, plays and classes.

When Arlo falls in love, he studies the other person in every way. The one he fell in love with is/was "the best ever" a lot, huh? Sheesh. But others feel unconditionally loved by him. He falls head over heels and get in love FAST. Arlo's charming...full of vitality...you treat others with sympathy, gentleness, and warmth...

Last part: Arlo, has to watch out over losing his focus 'cause he'll wanna try too many ideas at the same time. He doesn't prioritize, so it's easy to overload. Also, because Arlo's just a fun-loving animal, he might not complete important work and basic responsibilities...

ENFP: "Every day, New Fantastic Possibilities"

Absolutely...

In fact, one of the things I wanted to do was get some other types to come hang around for a while...people that would share their (types) viewpoint on the things we talk about (keeping in mind that it's an INTP group, and we kind of act like Mr. Spock...*grin*), and glean information on what it's like to be stuck in your body being an INTP...

I think I have something of a handle on what it's like to be an INFJ (my sweetie is one, there are 2 on the INTP list, and I know one other). I'd like to learn more about INFP, too...especially since my other project is a Jungian Psychology-based Dating and Relationships site... The more I know about different types, the better! =)

C'mon over, Kes! You're the Next Contestant On The Type Is Right!

ENTP: "Each New Thought Propels"

Ok. Ready? You like to chase the novel and complex. You have faith in your ability to overcome any challenges you face...highly independent...value adaptability and innovation...you encourage and value change...

You need freedom for action...you resist hierarchy and structure...you push against all odds to further your projects with your entrepreneurial tendencies...you can argue and find the flaws in any position...

How'm I doing so far? You rarely accept things just as they are...you like to test new meanings and relationships..when you don't get what you want, you use your cleverness and ingenuity to bring people around to your point of view...when you choose a career, you tend to set flexible goals that allow you to incorporate new information and accommodate to new circumstances...

"Keep your options open" is your middle name... you like to explore the "road not taken." Your flexibility can look like indecision to others who don't have a clue about you..you take advantage of opportunities...you realize potential of many things because of your ability to see connections and relationships between SEEMINGLY unrelated things...you cannot be ordered around, but rather handle things best when they are *suggestions*....like posting more on the Storm Palace BBS you love excitement...

Competence is key to you.. you don't take advice or respect someone you don't see as competent...you want work to be enjoyable..you're a relentless learner. Knowledge is important to you...you use your enthusiasm to get others involved in your learning...you learn through give-and-take discussions and by questioning and challenging others....you like challenging your teachers and colleagues...limitations are mere challenges to you...you take initiative, and once the ball is rolling, you like to turn it over to someone else...

You like to organize logically and strategically....your work space might not LOOK organized, but underneath it all is a system that works for you. You like to have an impact...you need a job that allows you to be innovative. you like to take risks and explore...an open calendar for the weekend is really appealing...you're often "in on the latest things..."...you like travel, 'cause it allows you to open up new vistas and horizons (corny, huh?).

Falling in love happens when there's a good "fit" with another person...you often know after the first meeting whether there's any "real potential"... you may not like to commit until that right person comes along...therefore you probably won't settle down early...you don't like to lose at ANYthing you undertake...you're a born enterpriser...

Things to be on guard for: you have a great fear of looking dumb or incomp- etent..you may tend to think you have the perfect solutions for problems, and may become competitive when others challenge you... you might start to think that you're the only one who's in on the truth of things, so you might not like to listen to the input of others...you may have the tendency to overextend yourself as you jump in on lots of ideas without considering how long it takes to work 'em through... commit to too many projects? ...you are a rebel.. you find it difficult to accept standard operating procedures.. and hate HAVING to follow exact rules or policies...learn to work within the system.

What schools have you attended? high school at Meadowview Christian School in Selma, AL; junior college at Marion Military Institute and played football for two years; undergraduate work at University of Alabama at Birmingham where I played football as well.
What degrees do you have? none currently; I am finishing up my degree in Exercise Science and have a little under a year to go once I get back.

What other flight sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim? Well like nearly everyone else AW was the beginning of the downhill online spiral but it started way back with Chuck Yeager for me and Falcon 3.0 for real. In AW I wasn't part of any formal group and flew as several names but the one I remember was sixx. In WB I flew off and on for years but never could stick with it long enough due to college slipping away. Then once I got into Fighter Ace 2.0 I joined up with a new squadron called LuftJagerKorps (LJK) and flew as LJK_Six and LJK_Reschke and was with a member of that group till we closed it down in August of 2002 after being in AH for a year or so. In AH I have flown as (some of these names I remember from various games so they might not be right) sixx, LJKResch, LJKSix and Reschke and was a member of LJK here as well but now am heading up VF-17.
Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII? My mom's dad was a crew chief/gunner initially in WW2 on PV-1 Ventura bombers for the US Navy then got his wings and flew the PV-2 towards the end of the war in the South Pacific. My father's dad was in the US Army and took part in the invasion of the Phillipines and several other smaller amphibious assaults in the South Pacific.
Other interesting things about yourself. What else is there other than my beautiful wife who is very understanding about me and my "free time". If not for her I know I wouldn't be able to write this today.

BTW I am an:

ENTP: "Each New Thought Propels"

"Ok.

Things to be on guard for: you have a great fear of looking dumb or incomp- etent..you may tend to think you have the perfect solutions for problems, and may become competitive when others challenge you... you might start to think that you're the only one who's in on the truth of things, so you might not like to listen to the input of others...you may have the tendency to overextend yourself as you jump in on lots of ideas without considering how long it takes to work 'em through... commit to too many projects? ...you are a rebel.. you find it difficult to accept standard operating procedures.. and hate HAVING to follow exact rules or policies...learn to work within the system."

Post by: Panzzer on October 31, 2003, 06:15:59 PM
Ok, first a bit of explanation.. I started playing AH in December 2002, although I had tested it earlier  (since my brother got an account). But the CT I have "really" played since quite a few setups ago. First I was too fascinated with the MA environment to start in the CT surroundings, but as I got more and more introduced to the SEA and CT (thanks to the Finnish AH community), I started venturing out a bit. So during the last tour I've been mostly playing the CT. (Although, big part of my online CT hours go to the Finnish Aviation Museum's Aviation Hobby Days (Ilmailuharrastepäivät).  I was there representing the delights of Virtual Flying, so most of my deaths & sorties are from there this event :D). But since the terrain was very useful (Kanttori's FinRus Autumn map, thanks to Jester), we actually convinced quite a few gentlemen to try the AH online.  So beware, some new Finnish pilots are bound to join the AH community soon.  At least I hope so... :D

Your Aces High call sign? It's significance?

Panzzer, no especial significance.

Your Aces High squad?
in the MA >Leijonat< squad,
in the CT Lentolaivue 32

Your name?
Hmm, I guess this means Panzzer.
Or my real name, I couldn't guess who would be interested though, Riku Vaskuu.

Your age?
26

Your Email?
You can use rvaskuu at hotmail.com

Where do you live?
At the moment, Virrat, Finland.

Where else have you lived?
Ok, Kihniö, Finland, then Vaskuu, Finland and then Joensuu, Finland.
And now in Virrat.

What do you do for a living?
I'm a computer nerd. :D
Actually, I have a MSc degree in physics, but as there have been no suitable job openings, I'm working as a "system operator" or "whatever Linux dude" in my  friend's company. :)

What is your marital/family status?
At the moment I think I'm single. :)
(Wait and see what my girlfriend thinks of that when she comes back from her
half a year trip to England..)

What schools have you attended?
Umm, too many to be counted here.
The latest was the University of Joensuu, here in Finland.

What degrees do you have?
The MSc in physics (actually colour science, to be exact).

What are your hobbies?
Apart from playing AH?
Well, I like reading books and I enjoy watching good movies. Apart from that, different sports, for example racketball (or whatever you dudes call it :D). and lots of different sports. To be exact, mostly I read about the Finnish WW2 air units. :)
So, in short: WW2 history and playing AH. :D

What other flight sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim?

Ah, the history. I started playing the computer flight simulators probably during 1985, or when was it when the Microprose's F15 came out for the C64... But online, I actually started the AH (as the first sim I've been active in) in January -03.

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?

As to aviation, no, not really.
WW2, hell yeah, my grandfather got shot through his lungs in 1943. In "the Continuation war", and ofcoz against the Russians.

Other interesting things about yourself.

None whatsoever, or at least that you might find interesting. :D

MaltaDog, it was the name of a belly disease (yikes...) that plagued the RAF pilots during the Malta defense.
Before my 8 months 'holidays', I used 'deSelys', from Jean deSelys-Longchamps, a belgian pilot who flew SpitV then Typhies with 609 Sqdn. RAF. He died during a night landing accident in 1942. He was famous for having strafed the Gestapo building in Brussels without orders. A memorial monument stands in front of where the building was located.

My Dad was a USMC UH1-E gunship, and A-4 Skyhawk pilot. As a Huey gunship pilot in VMO-3 he was at the siege of Ke Sahn in '67-'68 and flew an average of 18 hours a day for the 14-20 day period of Tet in '68. He transitioned to A-4's in '71 and went back to Viet Nam in '72-'73 with VMA-211 "Wake Avengers". They were the last US air unit of any kind, including helocopters, to leave Viet Nam, when they left on Jan 31, 1973. He ended his carrer as CO of VMA-214 "The Blacksheep" and retired as a LCol.

My Dad's Father was in the 55th Construction Battalion in the Pacific and built runways all over that theater at places like Hollandia on New Guinea.

My Mom's Father was a Navy Machinists Mate, and a plane captain for a PBY during WWII. After the war he worked at the Naval Air Rework Facility in Pensacola as a machinist for 35 years. He rebuilt countless Wright and Pratt & Whitney radial engines along the way.

Deej111,

I didn’t have any idea that you are 16.  I’ve got to hand it to you; you don’t come across as being so young.  What they say and how they say it makes most young folks really stand out; it is easy to spot them (not that there’s anything wrong with sounding/appearing young).  I salute you for carrying yourself as one of us adult computer dorks as opposed to a kid computer dork.

Title: CT Regulars, Who Are You?
Post by: Stat on July 24, 2004, 03:59:14 PM
Your Aces High call sign? It's significance?
My call sign is "Stat".  This is a truncated term use commonly today in the practice of medicine.  It is derived from the Latin word “Statim” which means “Right away” or “Do it now!”  In the context of the everyday practice of medicine, it is use exclusively in life threatening situations when either a life saving measure or critical information is required immediately.  “If this doesn’t happen now, the patient is going to be harmed or die.”  I felt it quite appropriate for this particular game which we all find so addicting and challenging.  Many of our actions are performed quickly and without delay or we end up damaged or dead.

Your Aces High squad?
Currently, JG54 Grunherz in the CT.  Hell Angels in the MA.

Your name?
Joseph T. Alvarez.  Call me Joe

Your age?
One half of a century.  I was quite relieved to see some old farts in here over 40 like TwoDogs5 and Oldman.  I know for a fact Storch is pushing 50, if he is not there already!  (I’m not sure he has admitted it yet in this post).

Your Email?
joetalvarez@yahoo.com

Where do you live?
Bellaire, Texas which is a small city with the confines of Houston.  We decided not to get swallowed up by the City of Houston.  We kept our own Mayor, Police Force and Fire Department!

Where else have you lived?
Starting as child: Puerto Rico, Cuba, Florida, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, New York (City), and finally, The Great State of TEXAS.

What do you do for a living?
I am a physician (anesthesiologist) specializing in the practice of Pain Medicine.

What is your marital/family status?
Good grief, what else?  A middle aged divorced doctor!  I have two wonderful children who make me proud.  My daughter just graduated from The University of Texas this past May.  Woo Woo! Hook ‘em Horns!!!  My 19 year old son is diligently trying to extract his head from his posterior but to his credit attends a local community college in Houston.  My ex lives a comfortable distance from me in Sugarland, Texas.

What schools have you attended?
Antilles High School, San Juan, Puerto Rico.  B.A., Saint John’s University, Collegeville, Minnesota.  M.D., Michigan State University, East Lansing, Michigan.  Pediatrics, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan.  Anesthesiology/Pain Medicine, Baylor Medical School, Houston, Texas.

What degrees do you have?
Bachelor of Arts, Doctor of Medicine.

What are your hobbies?
Quasi-Computer Geek (build my own boxes, constantly upgrading, sigh…).  Road and mountain bicycling.  Most recently completed the MS 150 from Houston to Austin, 182 miles in 2 days.  Last month went on a 7 day mountain bike trip with 4 other guys in Colorado.  I ended up breaking 2 ribs after a crash on the third day…end of trip.  I’ll never do that watermelon again.  Weight training is another passion.  Women, particularly Blond Anglos and Latinas, are more of a pitfall than a hobby but they certainly are of interested to me.

What other flight sims have you been involved in? Your call sign and squad in that sim?
Boy, too numerous to remember!  But I will always remember my first experience….sniff, sniff…”Chuck Yeager’s Air Combat”.  Shortly thereafter it was “Out of the Sun” followed by a bunch more, F-18 Hornet, EAW, Saber Ace, etc., etc.  My on-line call sign has always been Stat.  First on-line sim was Air Warrior followed by the initial beta and subsequent versions of Warbirds.  After Warbirds self destructed into more Warbirds, WW2 On-line and Aces High, I gravitated to AH because it was obviously better.  Over the past year and a half I have enjoyed IL-2, IL-2 FB and the new Ace Expansion Pack.  Personally, I feel the IL-2 series is by far the best all around WW2 air combat simulator.  Its glaring weakness is the on-line play.  With respect to AH on line, CT is by far the most enjoyable.  MA is just one big furball.

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
My father was a U.S. Navy veteran of both WW2 and Korea.  He served for over 20 years.  My only connection to aviation is I gave up a spot to go to Navy flight school and become a RIO (Radio Intercept Officer) flying F-14 Tomcats in 1978.  I did this in order to accept a place in med school.  To this day I wonder if I made the right decision.

Other interesting things about yourself.
Jeeeezusss,  haven’t I prattled on enough?

Air Warrior - Started my online life in AW as StuJr (I was reading Stuka Pilot at the time, and flew Stukas alot....had a blast shooting down spits lol).  Bounced around in a few squads, fighter squadron of Memphis Belles, and then later some of us put together the II/JG54 (Dago, Ribie, BJB and couple others).  It was great while it lasted, great guys to fly with.  Time differences made it hard to fly toether though, and the squad kinda drifted.  Then a really good buddy of mine called `CR recruited me into the Eagle Squadron.  They flew FR Pac mostly and I was totally in awe of most of them (almost all Trainers and GAs).  At this time I changed my ID to `SA (because several of the guys had really cool names with two letter IDs and I wanted desperately to fit in with them).  I chose SA because I had been reading bios of several of the Luftwaffe pilots and was really taken by Marseilles (the Star of Africa).  One of the trainers (and squadmates), called Drano, who happened to be one of the finest 109 pilots Ive ever met was kind enough (and patient enough) to teach me how to make use of the plane's advantages.  I'm pretty sure he's still flying here on AH (probably hiding behind TC's skirts :D ).  Later on the Eagles got absorbed by the Damned, and I flew with them for a couple weeks before I decided to strike out on my own again.  Towards the end of AW we had to get new accounts with the EA tag on em, and I changed my ID to Shiden (after the name for the N1K1).  I kept Shiden afterward, and my email addy today is a holdover from my protest against EA (exileshiden).  I tried Shiden when I came here, but when I had to quit for awhile with the advent of AHII, I decided that it was time to leave Shiden and the bad feelings from EA behind, and resurrect SA once more, since it was in that incarnation I was my best and my experiences were the best.  At the end of AW I flew Axis vs Allies mostly, so CT seemed a perfect choice, for that reason and many more.

Do you have any other connection to aviation or WWII?
My grandpa fought in the Phillipines with the 32nd Infantry.  He also was in Japan for the occupation. His brother in law (my great uncle) fought in europe and was at the Battle of the Bulge.  WWII airplanes have always been a passion of mine.  A few years ago I was lucky enough to see an ad in the paper for this company that tours the US giving rides in vintage WWII fighters.  They mostly have T6 Texans (I got to ride in one of them, what a blast!!) but they also had 3 actual A6M zeros!!!  They only had one with them, but the guy let me sit in the cockpit.  Man what a feeling.  I got to see various planes when they had the airshows at Scott AFB outside St Louis.  The only thing that matched the Texan flight for me was last year (my first b-day here on the island), my better half decided I had been good and gave me a flight in a Stearman biplane for my present.  This year its getting repeated.  :)  He took me on the route the Japanese flew when they attacked Pearl Harbor and showed me all the landmarks.  Way too cool.  I also fly ultralights and want to get my pilot's license.

Let me tell you… I still have wet dreams from that day when I sleep now.. BUDS was nothing to the ride in the f-15..
