For years it was all about buff strat runs, pony and 38 raids with bish. Things have changed a lot over the years for my style of game play.
Now whenever im on its all about taking a base. My success ratio for the month of April was 86%(32 out of 37 bases). Not bad considering my game time has dropped dramatically. So my thing is all about base takes, a little strat running, the rest has been a focus on fighter play.
Im just getting this convo started. It is not my intention to glorify myself as im not that good of a player im just extremely effective @ team play. What is your primary goal when you play AH? Describe in detail and lets enjoy this thread :salute

Shoot down as many people as I can with the time I am given. I try to land at least 4 or more kills, which is why I die a lot and I'm always striving to get that 1 more kill, if I have 7 I want that 8th kill. It gives me a challenge, especially doing it in more difficult planes. I'm still here because of the challenge and the people.
Oh yeah, and to have fun, I guess....

my primary goal in aces high is pointing out the obvious that 86% (32 out of 37) of every thread you have started is about glorifying yourself.

FUN!!!!! 100% I don't have a high kill rate, it is very rare I get under the 1000 mark in rank.. but I have fun...

It varies from day to day. Mostly fighters (jabo or light) some bombers and a little gv action mostly in wirb or osti.
And most of the time I'm trying to support the war effort.

Improving my ACM abilities and combat effectiveness. I'm never satisfied with my performance, ever. Similar to what Violator said, if I shoot down 4, I want 5. If I shoot down 5, I want 6. As a result, I rarely ever land my sorties.
That, and making montages to attract more ultra-competitive types to AH.

Find action. I split my time between fighter, gvs and manned guns looking for fights and stuff to shoot at. I enjoy the interaction with the friendlies or enemies that are positive parts of the game with a sense of humor and do my best to ignore the negative players. I don't fly bombers much as the time:action ratio isn't may favorite.

The time:action ratio in buffs is brutal well said. Ive wasted so many hours on buff runs.

I have no "goal" I simply try to enjoy myself.
Whether it's racking up as many kills as I can, getting into adrenaline inducing fights, Flying inverted through enemy hangars, embarking on long buff missions, or driving around smashing my plane to bits on friendly field.
Hell, I'd even try one of those 15 hour GV strat runs if I had the time.

Honestly couldnt have said it better myself. I just have this bad habit about base taking being primary above all else. I guess when you come up under the likes of vDallas, alchemist, Jarbo, and more it gets pounded into you. Maybe i need therapy :x
Still wouldnt trade it for the world. I know semp wont like this but hands down im the best in the game today at base takes. Its too bad i dont switch countries and share the love. Its all im really good at.. well that and buffs.
Id love to explore ACM further and stop griefing fuballs with 17's or taking a base that is just furballing. I need to quit that and get in the fight.

In seriousness this time...I've been here since March, 3 years ago. Since later in that year I wanted to become one of the best players in the game, and mainly in german iron (specifically the 109's).
I was solo, in terms of squads, up until I joined JG5 last year in March, from my first year till I joined JG5 I basically taught myself what I knew, I improved while in JG5 through help of Dolby and Dahmer. Then after leaving JG5 and joining TopGun I learned some more there thanks to Bone, Ghost, Poison and then Joachim when he joined. Through the whole time I steadily got better, learning what and what not to do over periods of months.
Took me 3 total years to get to where I am now. Have I accomplished my goal? I don't know. Doesn't matter much anymore anyways.

When I first came to game, it was about base takes, then I joined POTW. Then I started learning ACM, initially I pushed to become a lot better, was about 5 years ago and got to a point where I was comfortable in my ability(After my first KOTH win). Now I have got a new urge to be better, I hope to take TOC this year(first one I'll have a chance to get into even though I have 4 invites) and if the dueling ladder comes around I'd like to win that as well.....TOC is probably the easier one to win for me...but in a ladder sometimes you can get an easy bracket which gets you passed a lot of the good sticks.
But since I joined POTW, the game is always fun when I'm flying good or bad....lots of good characters in our group who can make a bad night fun.

I forgot to add trying to steal a kill from Junky as a high priority.

TO KILL LATROBE AND VIOLATOR! !...ain't been working out so well tho :headscratch: :D
-
If I can get ONE sortie which makes me feel immersed, I'm happy. Usually it means flying with a few people with a common goal, doesn't matter what the goal is (or even who I"m with)
Just seems to be alot more fun when you can take off with others and act as a unit. I suppose this is why the scenarios have pulled me into the void that is AH.
Also, now that I've been around the block a little bit, there's a few names I like to see go on my kill counter only because I view those pilots as more skilled than myself. :devil Plus I know it hurts their ego's more than it does mine when getting killed. :neener:

To be the best, what's the point of doing something and not trying to be the best there is?
Define what it means to be the best?
You are simplifying something that involves a bunch of factors that are different for every one of us who play the game.
What mattered to me as a cartoon pilot almost 20 years ago now is far different than what matters to me now

I just want a fight. Had a great one against Dred a couple weeks ago. I don't care if Im in a fighter, buff, or GV I just want a fight.
I don't want a joust, I don't want to pick or vulch tho I will if thats all there is, don't want to spawn camp but again I will if that is all there is.
I fly 6-8 hours almost every Saturday. I can count on one hand how many fights I get in that time most weekends. :(

Honestly I just want to have fun and find a fight I don't care about rank, I don't care about score, I don't care about hit percentage all I care about is having fun and spending time with my friends and when that stops that's when I leave the game for good.

:airplane: You have asked a great question and I guess everyone in here has some soul searching to do to answer it.
Myself, I enjoy mission planning, execution of same and capturing a base or taking down strats to certain percentage but mainly I just enjoy the companionship with all the guys in here! While this is just a game, it develops friendships with people from all over the world and I have never met anyone in here which did not enriched my life to some extent!

i want to be the best at every aspect. I want to be the best fighter, bomber, tanker, base taker, strategist. Although I'm not any of them I like to feel I can hold my in all the aspects of the game. But I would want to be the best.

Okay yeah I will admit my bombing skills are second to none :rofl

Participating in historical scenarios and events. I consider the MA to be secondary to the SEA arenas. Past that, I love flying in buff raids (emphasis on strat targets) and hunting buff raids. I'm more prone to help defend a base than help capture one. Care not about score. Other than the B-17 as my go-to bird, i typically fly German fighters (190As and TA-152 against buffs;190A5 and 109F against fighters).

When I'm a bish, the goal is to win the map. Usually posting missions and begging people to join. When I'm rook or knight, my goal is to prevent the evil bish from winning the map.

There was a time where that mattered more to me. But I was younger, put more hours into it and thought it really mattered :)
Now it's for fun, bs'ing with friends and the hope that I'll have one knock down drag out fight on the few nights a month I get to fly.
What I try to be the best at is in bringing as much history into the game as I can.

well corky I see what you are saying as that is the path I am soon to taking... I'm only 20 but been playing since 15, I am a lot more likely to stay online with a full roster of squadies, over a good night (landing big numbers) by myself.
There will always be that "eletist" part of my ego, but that comes with my age. :)

I think this quote surmises the feelings of most of us old farts who've been around a decade or so, at least it does for me. Although I may never accomplish all that I want, I will aspire to be the best I can under any given situation.
-
It's always about outfighting the other guy. Actually fighting another person to some people is just pulling your stick to your belly and hoping you down black out :) To me it's about a lot of things. Keeping your head on a swivel, judging the state of energy of enemies, knowing the weakness and strengths of enemies planes, flap deployment, throttle management and so on and so fourth. It's a constant science experiment that I enjoy to dabble with in my free time :)
-
The fight is the thing. All else is conversation.
You walk miles across manicured grass in strange clothing and have to put up with boring stories about work you're not interested in dragging a bag that keeps getting stuck and has more in it than the store you bought it from. But then, you swing just right and the ball goes like a well aimed rocket and the sound off the club is the sweetest "tink" ever made. Same thing.
You drag yourself out of bed in the dead of winter and get out of a perfectly warm car to go into a very dark, very cold ocean. Then you catch one that rears up and you're racing along, fully in control. Surfboard and man as one, carving up and down, turn after turn. Perfect lines. Same thing.
Enduring hour after hour of ack hugging, Dora running, window licking, chest beating, gangtarding "pilots", someone will come from somewhere and for about five minutes you can match move for move, turn for turn and feint for feint. And in that small time you can completely immerse yourself in the fight. Then when you review the film you're shocked that what you thought was about 30 minutes, was in fact five. And, in the end, winning is good and losing is irrelevant.
Get that and you'll get why I play Aces High.

Take up the time that I should be using to pursue attractive, younger women. AH is a far better value.
Out in the real world, $14.95 can only buy a couple of drinks and a bogus phone number.

I've been running rental property for 6 years now, the stress of having 50+ tenants is alcohol or "relief". Problem is one trip to a bar would run me $45 where Aces fills up a few weeks a month for $15.

Needless to say, I haven't been successful. :(

To help my side win.
The fights are the most fun, and are a natural consequence of the above. But it is satisfying to help my team (or a member on it) achieve a goal, even if what I am doing is only indirectly helpful.

My only goal at the moment is simply to have fun, also with the time I do play I like to see how much I can raise my hit% in that time... My overall aim seems to have benefited immensely.

Flying missions.
Following orders.

Spending time with my squaddies. Since my divorce I have much more free time and I enjoy spending it with my squaddies. I like working as a team no matter what we are doing. Nothing beats laughing the night away with a bunch of folks you respect and admire. After leaving the Army (17 years) I find that I missed the team work aspect that I had in my life and I get that need met here. I don't know what I would have done without my buddies help and support in the last few years and the game for me has been an escape and a release. The people are what keep me coming back the game is what it is and I try to improve all the time but in the end it is the interaction with others that is the driving force behind my being here since 09...
-
Depends. By far on the top of the list is the fight of all fights that last a long time, starting from working to the deck.
Or Bracket fights.
Becoming Better to make encounters with other folks, so they have to earn thier kill satisfying thier wanting a good fight.
Killing is fun. Using techniques you learn Is fun. And i love teaching new guys.
Also derping is fun. Latrobe, Crabby we need to derp when i return!
And have fun. Fly with different groups, make friends, and have a good time.
The key is having an open mind :salute :devil  :joystick: :old:
But ive only played once in the past year :(
-
to have fun!! I don't ho cause anyone can do that, and im not anyone. I like the challenge of getting on someone's six or dying trying. I love defending a carriers in twin 5 inchers and I love tank night in the AVA!

My goal is to smack people around in my P-38J while having a crap load of fun doing it.
mission accomplished :D
-
My primary goal is to practice for the next scenario I'll be playing in.
-
Initially it was to be the first kid on my block to get a kill in 1941 Spit V. Now its to poke people in the virtual eyes, and have some fun.
-
I said the fight before but I think, Immersion is the better answer!
-
Upping a Spit V while the horde is attacking a base and staying in the weeds spinning and dodging and shooting one or two down as 5 try desperatley to shoot you down. Laughing while 3 auger diving down from 3k to kill you as you turn to avoid.. and lasting what seems like forever but was probably only a minute or two... before finally you get shot down... and then read on the 200 buffer from a player I had great respect for as a pilot, but mainly a class act, not a trash talker : NwBie? Holy crap !! lol
Funny how that one "sortie" sticks in my mind ... and I haven't played in quite a while, but it still is fresh in my mind.. people have fun and get enjoyment in different ways, there are many goals. I can remember many moments, but mainly the ones when I laughed my arse off with squaddies and different en-mes who had a decent sense of humor.
Lots of class acts in this game and I have always recommended this game for that reason. Ignore the whiners and enjoy the companionship of the ones who realize it is a game - games are meant to be fun :)
:rofl

To find a fight, and, win, lose or draw, get through it without doing something stupid.
Two examples from this weekend:
Up a F4U1D on a JABO flight. Both sorties result in two town building and two gun emplacements down.....
Mission 1 ends when engaging two Spits on the way back to base. After first pass I lose track of Spit #1, Think I have found him again as he kills me from my low 6....... :bhead
Mission 2 starts the same. I also engage two Spits (at the same base). Fly several passes, avoid being sandwiched, keep my energy up but get killed by one of the Spits from D600+ :aok
Dead both times but #1 was stupid and #2 was unlucky.

I try to fly at least one, if not many more, mission profiles totally unlike any I have flown before.
I just don't know how guys can fly the same planes the same way over and over.

My goal is to become a super ace! This is real after all! The Canadian air force has already taken a interest in my AH on goings! I intend on crusading my wishes in game and making everyone adhere to them! If someone doesnt agree I will punish them with punitive actions! Perhaps chastising them on 200 or some form of entertainment video! That will put the populace in line! :D  :aok
Winston sends his regards to all. :old:
