Title: 501 Squadron Tempest
Post by: Greebo on December 06, 2022, 05:08:56 AM
Thank you to Lyric1 for finding me the info for this skin. There's a few issues with the AH1-era Tempest that compromised the NMF effects I wanted for this skin such as the environmental map which is not working at all, I'll post a bug report about this later. Also while the power map does work, it does not work very well. Even at full strength it does not spread the solar reflections very far, not sure if this is a bug or just a limitation of the low poly AH1 shape.

In October 1944 the RAF's 501 Squadron used several natural metal finish Tempests to chase down V-1 flying bombs. Accounts differ as to whether they were supplied this way from the factory or had been stripped of camouflage by the squadron. This experiment ended after a few weeks and the aircraft repainted. The speed gain only amounted to about 5 mph and the RAF brass were never happy about non-standard paint schemes like this.

Thanks guys. This scheme was one of the reasons for me making the Tempest template, shame the lighting bugs have compromised it a bit. Every other allowable Tempest scheme has the standard grey/green RAF ETO camouflage, just with different RAF ID markings and maybe a little nose art.
