Title: Competition
Post by: nasty on April 22, 2014, 09:12:23 AM
I know it has been brought up before but there are a lot of sims out there that are slowly killing aces high...

As bad as they may be...War Thunder...WoW...Il2 and others are taking people away from aces high. I used to have a ton of friends that played the game but stopped because $15 is too much for them and they felt that with games like War Thunder out there that are free and have much better graphics and such that aces high is pointless to play.

I don't know how I feel about this...I agree but I don't. I don't plan on playing War Thunder because I like Aces High better but I do feel that my $15 every month isn't going to much use...at least up to now with all the new things hitech creations is going to do but even then...a lot of other games still look better

If you know it's been brought up before, maybe you shouldn't stoke the flames of negativity/stupidity?

This game isn't about looks for those of us who stick around. It's the best compromise between a full sim and the gamey crap other companies put out. I've been playing flight sims for a long time (pre Internet) and AH is the best one there has ever been IMO. For the price of a couple combo meals at your local fast food chain you get virtually unlimited entertainment. It's consistently the best money I spend on entertainment month in and month out. The company and it's employees are second to none IMO. Fifteen bucks is a STEAL for the ammount of frustration, friendship, and outright fun I get on a monthly basis. It's incredible that I've been playing for almost a decade and still find it fun.

The fact that HT even lets people get away with posting this rash of negative garbage on these message boards is a testament to his/their integrity and confidence in the product.

War Thunder, on Simulation mode, isn't cheesy.  It's actually excellent... except for one little thing... the one MASSIVE thing Aces High does well: Puts a TON of planes and tanks into one big arena.  No other game does this to any degree even close to Aces High.

What you are getting with Aces High that you don't get with other Sims:

1.  Every plane and vehicle in the set, right now.  (Sure some are perked online, in the MA, but you don't have to purchase them or spend months grinding to get to them)

2.  Active Customer Management.  You think channel 200 is bad?  F2P sims are orders of magnitude worse.

3.  No queuing.  Just get in and fly.

4.  Ranged communications.  Flew some WT last night, couldn't even give a team mate a check-six let alone speak with him based on proximity.  Just had to watch him die.

5.  Painstakingly high attention to detail with flight models/aircraft characteristics (ignore the B-239).  WT and WoW may look great, and they are getting there with the flight models, but nothing is even close to the FEEL that you get from Aces High.  This goes for both how planes fly as well as ballistics and damage modeling.

6.  Damage Modeling.  Though I mentioned it above, it warrants its own little snippet... Aces High damage modeling is awesome compared to the competition (IL2 not withstanding).  In WT, a 7.7mm gun will put a hole in your wing the size of a Boston Bull Terrier with a single ping.

7.  Aces High is an actual MMO.  No other flight sim since Warbirds/Air Warrior can even make that claim.  No other game is a persistent entity.  Regardless as to whether base taking is your thing or not, at least you can do it.

8.  While both communities contain their fair share of cesspool refuse, Aces High actually has people willing to help you.  This may be difficult for you to believe, but I promise you I am not lying when I say that War Thunders forums make the Aces High BBS look absolutely STELLAR by comparison.

9. Hand-built and managed Special Events and Scenarios.  If you've never experienced one of these, you're leaving the best part of your massive $15/mo investment on the table.

10.  Comprehensive statistics.  You can say stats don't matter, but live without them for awhile and you'll find yourself missing them.

11.  HTC -> Love them or hate them, you pick up a phone and dial and Skuzzy will answer and listen to whatever inane b/s or self-inflicted malware issue that prevents your 12 year old XP machine from running Aces.  Carrie Brooks will preemptively contact you regarding credit card issues, as well as immediately answer any questions or concerns you have.  HiTech himself will come down from Olympus and put you on notice for being a toejam disturber.  ENJOY this level of customer service, for you simply shall not find its like in this day and age.

12.  A damned fine balance between realism and fun that ANYONE can pick up but even after a decade and a half no-one has mastered.

.....This wins.  Argument over.  He's right, too.  HTC has excellent customer service, just try even getting a human with any other MMO out there..  Doesn't work.

Those that think this have been saying it for as long as I can remember :old:
Therefore my reaction
When AH 1 was replaced, many people were quitting because their PC wasn't up to the new specs.
Many I'm sure, got new PC & returned to AH 2.
Some quit when WOT came out, described how buggy it was (is) and came back.
Those of us that have been here more than a few years knows the deal with other stuff out there
and have stayed with AH. (Of course everyone goes on leave on occasion).
There simply is no other PC game or Sim that almost immediately patches bugs, updates
game in reasonably fair times, (considering how small the staff is), almost immediately (in most cases)
works with you as far as payment, Tech support or any other issues.
This is an ever-evolving Sim that has no other competition as far as the Community.
The best people out there play AH :aok I don't mean best at a game. I mean best as people, who will
listen to your troubles, help you any way possible and get to know you and your Family, and truly care :aok
AH has nothing to worry about. We've heard it all before :salute
Those of you who think the game's dying....
Hope you stay and ride the wave :airplane:
If not, well, don't let the door hit you, you'll be back :aok
                                                                                                                                                       Oz

Aces high rocks. I will pay 20.00 a month for the joy it brings me. I don't care how far I have to fly to fight, I don't care if the aces kill me quickly, I haven't even touched on all the treasures available in this game. Heck I'll pay 25.00 if that's what it takes to get my fix, But for now my 15.00 is a steal for me. Long live aces high!

I agree...I've been on aces high since 2008 and flying sims since 2001. I just posted because my friends are being tulips about it. I love the game and hate wt...I just thought of getting everyone else's opinion...that list ends all arguments
