:airplane: Again, the Devil Dogs went deep into "Bish" territories and rescue a downed B-24 crew, and some POW's Which had broke out of "Club Mint". This is the second time we have operated this type of mission and everyone seems to really enjoy it, as it is different from the normal day to day base taking. We took 6 C-47's in the raid with about 22 fighters for escort. A very gallent YAK pilot managed to kill 3 of our C-47's, but we did get some of the POW's home safely, but he payed the price for running the fighter formations and our hat is off to him..didn't get his call sign.
Brings up a question: The railroad depots, which resupply bases...can these be destroyed to delay resupply of bases and if not, why not? Would give everyone an extra target to attack on missions. Same old base taking missions are getting old and stale. When the resupply barges at ports are destroyed, does that delay the resupply of the port and respawn of the CV assigned there?

Typically, railroads supply the strat factories and convoys/barges supply bases. The fewer of these that reach their destination, the longer the objects stay down. So, strafing the trucks and barges keeps base objects down longer; strafing trains keeps strat factories down longer. You cannot destroy the little buildings where trains/convoys start or end.
Also, if you flatten the City before hitting the strat factories, those factories will stay down longer. According to Hitech, he recently fixed the bug where all factories got supplied by the same train.

:airplane: That answers one of my questions that I have always had in this game. So, if I understand you correctly, if we hit a base and close it down, and hit the supply train at the same time, the base will stay down longer. Same with the supply barges?
-
Yes, I believe so. The way I understand it, base objects have a max downtime. Player resupplies shorten this downtime. Auto supplies by convoys and/or barges shortens this downtime as well. If you keep destroying all the convoys, the objects will stay down their max downtime, but will eventually be repaired even if no supplies ever reach them.

Correct.

i thought player resupply did not resupply the structures?
only things like troops, ack, radar, ords?

Nothing contrary has been stated in this thread so far.

what does this mean? You can't actually rescue a downed player. So what did you actually do? :headscratch:

this sounds interesting

Sounds to me like they just made this up for something to do. That about right? :)

:airplane: When one of the rescue c-47's landed and taxi up to my downed b-24's, i "bailed" from the aircraft and walked over to the rear door of the C-47, clicked on the "Join" link in the clipboard map and rode home with the squaddie who picked me up. No big thing, we just try to do something different from time to time, instead of base capturing. All who fly with us on these missions really like them, because it does present some different challenges to everyday ops in Aces High. Our next rescue mission will be to rescue the "dough" boys surrounded by German troops in the battle of the bulge. We will "plant" 3 M-3's with 10 troops each somewhere behind enemy lines, at least 1 sector and General Geo Patten's 3rd Army will rush to the rescue along with support aircraft.
Any squad or AH members who would like to go along on this mission, contact me at townsendejt@comcast.net. We will be glad to have you along!!!

That's cool. I was trying to figure out if it was a pretend thing, or had some actual mechanics to it, or just a fake story. I like the work around you came up with. :salute. I've asked in the wish list for rescue missions before. I think you are onto something with those. If you can think of how to score it, and impliment it, perhaps it could be come a future patch feature. :salute

a BoB scenario once, we had rescue.. you'd call out your position after you bailed, goon would come land next to you, the CM would verify you were "picked up", and you could re-up in a new plane.
it only worked, because the LW guys weren't allowed to shoot the goons :)
