I am building a Nforce based system this weekend. I am using the K7N420 board. In installing the DDR PC2100 memory, (two DIMM's, 128 each) which slots should I install in. I remember someone saying that it the machine will perform better by installing the second module in slot number 3. Is that true?

just stickem in 0 and 1
Performance issues such as which slot they should go in, are board specific. The performance benefit, unless there is a bug, will be Tiiiiny

Use slots 1 and 3 on the MSI K7N420 Pro. That will enable dual channel mode. (Do not all the slots at the same time, as with most boards this will decrease memory performance slightly.)
