There is a new version of the AH FMOD beta with a download link below. Please use this version for all further testing until a new version is released.
Fixed a voice playback bug. NOTE: For testing the voice system, please test online only.
In the Sound Options menu, speak layout selections are no longer used and instead defaults to how its setup in Windows.
Original post with new download link:
In our previous sound system change, we ran into some roadblocks that eventually kept us from implementing a sound event system that allows us more detailed sounds. We're once again looking into moving to a new sound system (FMOD) and need some help with low level testing across multiple platforms. We have a test version that will install in your existing Aces High folder. It should run just the same as your regular Aces High. There are no new sounds or effects in this, this is just to check that everything still works and nothing crashes. There is a small installer download that will install 3 files into your Aces High folder. If you want it will also create a shortcut on your desktop(ahfmod.exe). Run this shortcut instead of your usual Aces High icon to launch the test version. If you have a problem with the test version you can simply go back to launching the game as you normally do.
Here is the link to the download. It is about 4MB. Please report in this thread if the test version runs normally for you of if you encountered a problem. Thanks for your help.

Which was the bug exactly?
I did not noted it

Is this to be used with AH sounds or can sound packs be used for testing ?

What headset are you using? You claim it plugs into your sound card, but I'm thinking you're using one with a USB (and that wouldn't be necessarily as direct or infallible as you think)...

What shows in your Options/sound device selection?

Looking into his card listed in the other thread: http://components.productwiki.com/creative-sound-blaster-x-fi-titanium/
It seems this card has "modes", like entertainment, gaming, etc.. Have you tried/toggled this setting to make sure it's in the right "mode", Semp?
Also, go through the obvious stuff, make sure your default/on-mother-board audio is disabled (drivers uninstalled, disabled it from your BIOS). If you have a headset and it is USB, try plugging something else into the sound card with something that will fit/utilise the plugs only off that card.

There is a bug as to me.
I hear a 'click' sound when my engine is on and every time ah plays a sound.
When in furball and engine off i hear many click sound from other planes.
Not so with previous version mod.

it shows my sound card just like it does in the regular game. creative sb something including mike. I am using the windows configuration.
babs I have game mode selected. just tried entertainment mode with same results. audio creation mode actually does get rid of error and I can hear sounds. not sure why game mode and entertainment mode dont work with the beta. btw all 3 modes work in the current game. I had forgotten about the mode since I dont really mess with them.

I use splitters to get sound to both speakers and headset, but I normally have my speakers off. it doesnt help if I turn them on on the beta. the mike is connected directly into the sound card.

Hmmm... well, step-1 find the problem. ( :rock )
So it is working in "audio creation" mode, then? ( )

After I looked up your card details I was confident it was with this (negatively viewed) feature and likely not to do with having a USB headset (you also mentioned plugging it directly into the card, and this card doesn't have a USB port).

sorry to be a pest hitech, while the issue with my sounds has been resolved, well not sure why the other two modes dont work, then again I probably wont care. however why do the settings for my controllers dont show up while using the sound test server? and by that I mean I need to re do my joystick settings again. but If I log in using the regular shortcuts then my joystick settings are all back to normal. I have not actually redone the settings for my joystick using the test server as I dont want to mess up the settings on my regular game.

Pyro,
I did a clean install of my Plantronics 780 then a clean install of the game. Fixed my resource issues. Both the Miles sound and this new sound do not like Dolby enabled with my Plantronics. Also the fewer speakers I virtualise the happier the game is on resources. I'm doing quad speakers at the moment. 7.1 and 5.1 sometimes got strong micro freezes. With quad I was getting a few expected micro freezes when the detail rendering distance was reached with my sliders set to install defaults. I played for about 2 hours today on quad speakers and the game on pressing the last quit button went into an executable error.
I'll test this next update now that I've gotton the video audio resource issues under control.

Getting stutters while using vox. Sounds are fine, but when I key the mic I get up to a few second stutter.

spoke too soon. now none of the modes work in the test server while everything works in the regular game. I can still see my sound card selected in the sounds section withing the game. issue with the controllers not being recognized went away but still have no sound in any of the 3 modes.

I got problems.
I'm getting micro stutters or softlocks, whatever you want to call them, when I release my VOX key. No problems when I key up, only when I release. No problems when others speak or stop speaking.
Because of this, I tried to launch the old .exe. Now it crashes everytime I key up VOX. Guess I gotta do a fresh install. :cry
-
I repeat,
In engine cycle i hear a bad 'click' noise.
And this happens when other sounds (customs) are loaded by the game.
This problem comes with this ahmode1.
:salute
-
So I did a fresh install [non-beta] and copied my settings. The game still kept crashing when I keyed VOX. Then I fiddled around with my sound settings and sound devices from the 'game sounds' menu by switching them to other settings then switching them back. That cleared up the problem. I probably didn't even need to re-download the game.
Take note, anyone who crashes when they launch the old -.exe
-
Played the evening on the beta-1 executable. It dosen't like Dolby mode on the plantronics 780 USB and would crash when I pressed the transmit button. I got micro stutters using 7.1 and 5.1 speaker emulation Dobly disabled. Once at quad emulation those went away but, I forgot to disable other planes skins. I would get a momentary lockups sometimes when a new plane came in range.
I set video with the default button then disabled all bump mapping except for clouds. Turned off building shadows and the funny grass. FPS stayed 58-60. Enabling Dolby with my headset was causing resource problems with the 2.29p5 and the beta-1.
I tried Messaiah's test of running the original executable and the game would crash everytime I pressed the transmit button. Also my windows speaker setup and reset to 5.1 instead of quad and I had not touched it after logging out of the game where I had set it to quad 3 hours earlier in windows. I reset the speaker emulation to quad and then ran the old executable. Went into game sounds and set all sources to windows and not plantronics. Hitting the transmit button after that worked as expected.
-
sorry to be a pest hitech, while the issue with my sounds has been resolved, well not sure why the other two modes dont work, then again I probably wont care. however why do the settings for my controllers dont show up while using the sound test server? and by that I mean I need to re do my joystick settings again. but If I log in using the regular shortcuts then my joystick settings are all back to normal. I have not actually redone the settings for my joystick using the test server as I dont want to mess up the settings on my regular game.

Midway, the goal of a beta is not just to get you working, the goal is to fix the issues so they do not happen again. Hence please post the details of your sound card , and how these modes are labled.
On the short cut issue, it is simple, the short cuts are activated by the name of the program, I.E. the short cut driver looks to see when a program call aceshigh.exe starts. When you are using AHfmod.exe it thinks it is a different program, and hence would load different short cuts.

Buster when you were changing output modes, I assume you were changing modes in the windows settings , and then restarting AHfmod?

Give gramps a minute, he (and a bunch of other pigs) was up late toying around with the beta last night.
I'm running the release/live version (takign night school now ontop of work and the hangar, maybe if I have time this weekend), while all these guys were testing the beta last night I had no problem playing or interacting with them, but you do know who is running the beta release because the sound of their voice on our squad vox channel is notabley flatter.

1. - With the first beta executable I had to change in "Windows 7 Pro 64bit" speaker setup, the speaker emulation from 7.1 down to Quad before I stopped getting micro stutters and freezes when I pressed the transmit key.
2. - Both Beta executables from the game sounds GUI sourced the same:
Speakers Configuration - Use Windows Speaker Configuration
Mic - Plantronics
Speakers - Plantronics
Headset - Plantronics
3. - When I executed the 2.29p5 after running the beta executable, the game sounds were sourced differently from what I would set to stop the previous crash with 2.29p5 and would crash the game when I pressed transmit. I had to change all sources to "Windows Speaker configuration" or "Use Primary Sound Driver" to stop the crash on pressing the transmit button. If I were to run the beta executable then the 2.29p5 just after. The 2.29p5 settings for sound sources would be changed back to settings that crashed the game on pressing the transmit button. If I only ran the 2.29p5 executable each time, the previous game sound source configuration would stay the same.
Last night after running the beta-1 for 3 hours online, Win7 speaker emulation set to Quad for the plantronics USB. I logged off, then ran the 2.29p5 executable and experieced the transmit crash after tuning to "SERVER". I inspected the Win7 speaker configuration after the crash and it had changed back to 5.1 from Quad.
Running 2.29p5 after running beta executable source settings:
Speakers Configuration - Use Windows Speaker Configuration
Mic - Microsoft Sound Mapper
Speakers - Plantronics <----had to change to "Use Primary Sound Driver" to stop crash.
Headset - Plantronics <----had to changed to "Use Primary Sound Driver" to stop crash.
Whatever the beta sound engine is I hope thats where we are going. With the Miles over the years I've experienced on average 1-2 VOX transmit button crashes each tour just after getting into the arena tower. And 3-4 during heavy game action with my squad all talking on VOX whether I used a sound card or a USB speaker emulating headset.
-
I also have the SB X-Fi and beta1 does not work. I don't have the software loaded to change modes but the card is likely in game mode from the last time it was set.
The regular AH.exe crashed after trying beta1 but after restarting AH after the crash it worked normally again.

When I used the SB X-Fi card I had to disable all sound effects and 3D effects so the game didn't crash or crash when I pressed the transmit button. Skuzzy warned me that anything but the sound card set to basic mode could cause resource issues or crashes. Try disabling all 3D effects and enhanced effects to see if it works.
-
NOT,
Is your Logitech headset also a USB soundcard?
If it is you might want to disable your SB card in the hardware manager to remove any conflicts along with unistalling it's software.
-
Tonight I played on the beta-1 for about 2 hours. During that time everytime I pressed the VOX key my screen would lock for up to 5-10 seconds. If both video detail sliders were full left most lockups were 5 and longer. The farther right the less the lockups would hold. No lockups happened listening to sounds or VOX.
Turning off bump mapping only gave me back FPS. The default detail slider settings kept the locks to stutters.
-
I also get the error message that no active speakers were found and that sounds are disabled.
I am not using an external sound card. In game sounds are set to use windows settings or what ever it says exactly. Do you need dxdiag?
-
A brief test but seems to work fine for me. Only exception was that thgrottling up the sounds didn't seem to kick in right, coming in suddenly at full throttle. Probably just me though and because I was concentrating on the sounds.

my microphone ingame was set to "microsoft sound mapper", causing the game to crash when using it.
-
Seems to be working fine for me so far.
-
Well, what ever you did my old puter likes it..went from fr in 20-50 to 70-100's
pentium 4 cpu 3.00 ghz
2.99 ghz ram
286 nvidia vid card
-
Noticed a problem. If I log in with the test version everything seems fine. If logged in regular version. I can hear others but I can not transmit. The little indicator does not light up. All other sounds seem fine.
-
With first test version all worked fine - also track-ir seemed working better.
With second test version each sound is interrupted by a sound that sounds as a 'click' - i'm using
very few custom sounds.
Is it possible that nobody have observed this?
:salute
-
I get this when I push the new sound beta test Icon AHFMOD

There is a new version available. Continued in this thread: http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,346003.0.html
Megalodon, please try the new version and report if the problem still persists.
