After briefly digging around on the internet, I found three pictures that are P47Ms and were exclusively flown by the 56th FG. Enjoy!

Just getting the juices flowing for the skinners! :aok

Those are actually the only three choices you have as each individual squadron was painted in one of those schemes.
So, other than nose art, I guess there will only be three P-47M skins.
Get to it!!

Found another one from a relatively unreliable source:

Starting work on P-47M-1 44-21112 coded UN-Z flown by Maj. Bostwick CO of the 63nd FS.
(And that profile above is not a good copy)
-
Just FYI:
The 56th FG were the only unit to fly the P-47M IIRC.
:salute
-
plz skin the black and red
-
Oh yeah.. I am going to like this plane, couple hours work. I will finish it up and submitt it early next week.

I will do P-47M-1 44-21212 "HV * U" of the 61st FS next.

Looks pretty, Fencer! :aok
-
I'd say "Marilyn" (if I spelled that right) is a must-have.
-
Your not going to get a lot of skins for the M
-
I was hoping to start on 44-21108 if no one else has dibs on it yet.

Kazan mentioned he was going to do it in another thread. You might want to check with him.

Bet we can fill it up, unlike the TA-152. Of course alot of people spoke up for TA-152 skins over a year ago and so far no one else has done any.
-

Agreed. I've probably seen more color photos of P-47M's than any other jug. Not to mention that by this point in the war, the 56th FG was getting tons of press back in the states. A lot of these aircraft are pretty well documented. Sure, a lot of them will look similar since there's only 3 basic paint schemes, but, the slots will fill, and fill quickly.

Yes i started with this skin, and another one.

I'm sorry, I had the wrong name. "Lorene" was the one I was thinking of. Had a large profile of his girlfriend on the cowling. Lots of pictures of that plane were taken I think.

"Lt. Russell S Kyler. Huntingdon, PA. 61st Fighter Squadron. P-47M 44-21116 HV-J "Lorene" Lt. Kyler and S/Sgt. McGehee check out the repair job on two 20mm cannon shell holes. The shells took out two cylinders of the Pratt and Whitney R-2800 whilst Lt. Kyler was straffing an airfield near Muritz Lake, Germany on 10 April 1945. It says much for the ruggednes of airframe and engine that the a/c made it back to Boxted. This cowling panel with the painting was removed from his earlier P-47D HV-V to be fitted onto this "M" model. The original photo of Lorene from which the noseart was worked is beneath"

I would like to see
"Josephine My Flying Machine"
Lt. Leo F Butiste. 62nd Fighter Squadron. P-47M 44-21199 LM-X

Or
"Lookin fer trouble"
Lt. Edgar J Huff, Ogden, UT. 63rd Fighter squadron. P-47M 44-21209 UN-B
(http://www.littlefriends.co.uk/gallery/56g/un-b.jpg)
and I'm sure this will get done
“Fire Ball”
Lt. Philip G Kuhn, Lorain, OH. 63rd Fighter Squadron. P-47M 44-21225 UN-K.

Looks like those flat 105 gallon tanks on both wings of Fireball. Guessing there is one on the belly too. Bet those M's drank fuel like no other jug :)
-
Yes i started with this skin, and another one.
Alright. You've probably seen it already but there's some good pictures of it here.

Lil'Snorkey would be neat to have. I live in Ohio, so it would be nice to fly an aircraft that a pilot from Ohio flew in WW2. :aok
Edit: I notice there are no dorsal fins in the picture. Can you confirm that it is an M?

Yes. Only a bit over 100 were made, and a number of those were lost in training accidents, crashes, and whatnot (including teething problems where an engine might die and bring the plane down). Just saying "over 100 made" does not mean over 100 actually saw service, mind you. Probably only between 30-50 saw actual combat considering training losses, airframes out of service or in for repairs/maintenance, and so on.
Usually there's a ratio of flyable planes, and sometimes it's less than half the total planes available.
Skin choices will be interesting, but somewhat limited in variety. At least it answers the age-old question: "Can we do P-47M skins?" :D :aok
-

M's were delivered with no dorsal fin. The airframe was a P-47D-30 airframe, almost exactly like the D-25 we have in game. The 56th added the dorsal fin once the aircraft were in theater.

According to Little Friends, the 56th had 100 P-47Ms assigned to it over the period they were equipped with them.
-
Think I might start working on fireball tonight...unless someone else has started to work on it...
-
Planning on starting "Ole-Miss Lib" 44-21149 in a couple hours assuming no objections.

According to two book sources, all 130 M's were sent to ONLY the 56th Squadron. Of those, 12 were lost in crashes, of those 11 pilots perished. So 118 M's saw combat. Unless for those with a technicality count the 2nd YP-47M, which was really a converted D-25(7), then it'd be 117. But the M was deliberately produced to outfit One Squadron and one Squadron only.
-

Yes
-
108 Ms were produced, 106 went to the 56th.
10 pilots were actually killed in training accidents, but not all were caused by faults with the M.
-
im really liking the "lookin fer trouble" skin

I've checked a third book and it says 130 M's were produced in total.
-
I have the "Encyclopedia of WW2 Aircraft" it also says 130 made with 3 preceding YP-47Ms. It also says they went to the 56th FG only.

One of those three, was later the first "N" model.

I'm looking at doing "Teddy" 44-21117 from the 62nd, if no one has plans on starting her.
-
So I noticed this picture while scanning through little friends, is this an M with Winter camo?

I wouldnt think so due to the oil staining after the cowl flaps... :headscratch:

Well, if there was oil on the cowling before the snow fell, it could have mixed in with it. It is a somewhat uniform layer--just what I first thought of.
-
Possible, another thing I just noticed was the main cowl isnt white. Its interesting to me this one also has invasion stripes. When was the M first deployed?
-
January of 1945 was when they first started showing up, IIRC.
-
According to little friends, its not know to have and nose art or name, I may try this one and see how it turns out

I believe its a D-26 "Ole Cock III" here is a good thread on it with some good photo's

Another good clue would be that while the plane is a 61st SD aircraft, if it was in fact an M model, it would be painted black not OD/Grey. The M's were delivered from the factory to the unit in base aluminum.

looks like white paint to camo it from the air.. also looks like thats a centerline tank on it, did any M's have those?
just wonderin on that.. cause if they did, a single centerline should be available in the game for it.. like all other 47s

A lot of evidence seems to suggest that the Ms carried a centerline tank. I would think that it should be included in game.
-
I think Pyro is going to delete the wing tanks, make the wing "wet" & add the 150 gal centerline. Just my opinion.
-
Wet wing is a type of wing where the internal structure is made so that it won't leak, and then fuel is stored in it, without actual tanks (the wing is the tank).
I think you mean some other term?

Thanks for the correction, knew It was something else.

Good eyes. I'd suggest that it isn't a P47M but a late D. It wouldn't make sense, since the 8th took off the fuselage bands prior to the M Jugs arriving, for one P47M to have them painted on. I don't see any other photos of P47Ms with the fuselage ID bands underneath. A D model still might have the bands on from the late summer and fall.

I'm going to have to agree, most likely a D model, The photo does interest me, as its the first US plane I have ever really seen with winter camo. Seem none of the other planes in the background have it either.

it's a d-26 look above
