It is with a sad heart I post this, Ed Pfaff aka Bentnail, passed away this morning at 4am. He was a great person and a great friend and also someone i could call family. The Pigs will be holding a memorial flight for Bentnail in the Training arena on Sunday aprox 3pm est all are welcome and POTW will fly formation of birds in honor of a great man.

Bent was one of my first "new" friends when I came into Aces High. He was friendly, funny and easy to talk to. I have always held him in high regard among the players here. I will miss him and I offer my condolences to his family friends and squadmates. Rest in Peace my friend, we will miss you.

I had to pull over and shed a few tears when Lawndart called with the news. No personality will ever be big enough to fill the hole you have left in this squadron. You were larger than life and it is hard to believe that you are gone. I am glad you are not hurting anymore my friend. My heart goes out to your wife and daughter.

Not much in this world can bring me to tears but this hit me hard. Bentnail was one of the original pigs who were in POTW when I joined up. He saw me grow from a high School brat to a non commissioned officer in the US Army...whole time he treated me like a little brother and always gave me toejam but it was hilarious and so much fun to be around. Too many times I found myself in uncontrollable laughter as he ranted about anything.
Bent you will be missed brother. Fallen but not forgotten.

Bentnail was one of the best guys and players in this game. He always would say something to make you laugh or smile.. he even poked fun at his illness... Bent and I had our own inside joke... I would ask him if he "had his glow on..." and he would reply "of course".... or "just for me." Bent was old school... he played the game for fun... no trash talking or other BS that is common these days...He was a class act.... the standard that all others should be judged by.... Today our little community has diminished for it has lost one of its long time and best members... he will be greatly missed.
To his family: Bent enriched all of our lives by the time he spent with us and all the fun we had together. He, and you all, will always be in our prayers.

If there are any gurus who can make videos from the AH films it would be appreciated... I want to make one to send to his wife, so she can see how many friends he made on the game.
Also I was thinking on using the AVA arena if possible and make it a little later so all that want to participate can.

It's been a while since I have consistently flown in the game, but I remember back when I first started always seeing you in the DA and later in the Ma.
As I said above, it's been a while, but was he always a Pig? I feel like at one point we were in the same squadron, but that may have just been because I always saw him in game as a regular.

How fitting it is that LawnDart is the one to bring this heart felt news to me. It was the two of them that gave me the "official" welcome salute :D to the Pigs On The Wing. Then they immediately began razzing each other like they had been brothers in real life, and I knew immediately that, not only was I accepted, but that I would need to consume my beverages carefully while he was around, Heineken does not taste as well being sprayed from nasal passage (not to mention the havoc it plays with computer equipment and monitor screen).
Bentnail, my brother, I am sure is setting things right in heaven on the matter of what GOOD music is. Sing one more verse for us brother..... oh, how I wish you would..... :salute

I'm getting old.....
Bentnail was here in the game as long as I can remember. He was fearless in expressing what he believed and what he thought of you. But, he never held any differences against you, choosing to be your friend. It meant you had to be just as fearless in returning the same to him in the face of his unique brand of humor. He respected that and always held true to being your friend. He had a way of helping everyone around him toughen up a bit and grow a sense of humor.
I will miss Bentnail. I pray the good Lord takes care of him after his hard fought journey. And that the Lord helps his family in this time of need. My prayers are with Mrs. Pfaff, Ed was the Love of her Life.

I would just like to say at this point that the outpouring of respect from players from all sides is something to be respected in and of itself. We are a community and while some of us have differences in game we all have one common thread that holds us together... respect for a fellow player and the true feeling of loss when one of us is gone. Not taking a break... not giving away the game for whatever reason but gone from this life.

Ed was a great person. I shared many laughs with him. Had some damn good times on the pigs vox chatting with him. This news really saddens me.
Even though its a little cartoon emote and I never salute. Ill throw this out to Bentnail. :salute He earned it.

If there is another memorial for him this weekend, can someone PM me the info? I will download the game and sub for a month just to be there.

I was an original founder of the Rowdy Ones along with Davski, Wacotex and xxOdenxx (it's been so long, I think that was his name) and for the first two days we were known as the Texas Tators... but I thought he was in the Rowdy Ones...
But at the same time I could not remember if he maybe was a Aerofighter as the Rowdies and Aerofighters were know to have massive furballs in there and in my opinion it was just a single large group of fliers who had a ball constantly dogging it out with each other. When I left the Rowdy's, I actually ended up in the Aerofighters because I knew them so well.
He will definitely be missed by all!

He would have me and the squaddies in tears, laughing so hard that even if I happened for once to have a comeback I wouldn't be able to stammer it out before the next round started.
I'm proud of the pigs for giving Bentnail a haven in his last few months. A place where he could come fly, relax, vent, enjoy himself and be bent. You could tell it meant a lot to him.

My deepest condolences to BentNail's family and the pigs. He was a great guy to fly with. It's odd the last time I saw him up, seems like a couple of weeks ago, he seemed really, really happy. It occurs to me now that he was saying good bye to all of this and wanted all of us to think of him this way, happy and doing what he enjoyed.
That is a great gift to all of us . . .

Very sad news. He was truly one of a kind, his humor and spirit was a singular joy to all who knew him and flew with him. One of my favorite memories was his over the top rendition of Ethly Merman's "God Bless America". We were all blessed to know him and he will not be forgotten. :salute

Just reading this hurts, so my deepest thoughts and prayers to his family and close friends who's pain must be so much worse. Like so many others, I swear I spoke to him only the other week. I origianlly spent a lot of time in the DA and flew with and against Bent regularly. Even in the MA when his name came up I hollared a hello across range. I can't say more than anyone else has put. He was a great guy and I am honoured to have got to know him in the game. Prayers to his friends and family. Rest well. :salute

Players had gathered at an airfield in an otherwise empty arena to honor a fallen friend. The arena was set up so that the setting sun was sinking slowly towards the horizon to the west and a low cloud base settled over the field like a mist.
On the runway a row of seven tanks with their main guns at full elevation poised and waited in silence while off in the distance a formation of P-51s in a tight fingertip strong right formation formed up and aligned themselves with the runway.
As the gathering of friends waited and told each other stories about Bentnail and his past glory the approaching P-51s triggered the base alert-siren which had been replaced by the sound of a lone bugler playing taps. As the sound of Taps faded, the formation emerged from the mist at low altitude and high speed. As they drew level with the tower one of the aircraft began trailing smoke, then gently pulled up and split off to the west and faded into the setting sun. At that moment the seven tanks fired three volleys into the air as the remaining P-51s held their course leaving the open position where Bentnail, their friend and wingman, would have been. The final shots fell silent as the sun dropped below the horizon and the arena fell into darkness at the end of a fitting tribute.
This simple aerial salute is an expression of respect for the departure of a fellow gamer and warrior spirit who had shared countless hours enjoying virtual aerial combat and who had forever departed the flight line… It is the highest honor an Aces High Pilot can bestow upon a fellow player and a moving experience.
While some of those in attendance began leaving the arena, some lingered as a last sign of respect and reluctance to say that final goodbye.

I haven't played AH in quite awhile now and just decided to check the forums and I came upon this post. It hit me like a ton of bricks. I had the great fortune to fly with and get to know Bentnail (mostly in the Dueling Arena). Not only was Bent one of the nicest people in the game but he also seemed to be one of the happiest people I've ever known. He seemed to be able to laugh off everything no matter how painful or serious the situation might be. Godspeed my friend.

He was a favorite for good company to everyone, he left a long shadow and is dearly missed. It'll be great news to see and fly with you again soon squat.
